Network Prompts
ONE: WAKEY WAKEY You're drawn out of your slumber when your tablet emits an earsplitting SCREECH. No amount of shaking it or hitting it will get it to shut up for five whole minutes, but at the very end it cuts itself off what sounds like a piercing scream. Well, that was weird. Maybe you should check in on the network - someone might have an idea of what that was. Or maybe they'll be just as lost as you are. At least you can all be confused together...
TWO: DON'T LET THE BEDBUGS BITE... It's past curfew, and you've been locked in for the night. But for some reason, you just can't manage to get to sleep. Nightmares giving you grief? General insomnia problems? Well, at least you've got the network to keep you company. Maybe you can get someone to tell you a bedtime story.
Action Prompts
THREE: INCONVENIENCE STORE Congratulations, you've managed to stumble upon the Mallard River Market! But you're not alone. Among the shelves of junk food (just as well-stocked as you would expect from any normal store) you'll find one - or more! - other people there with you. Here's hoping you're not both after the same box of Frosted Toaster Pastries, because things could get ugly fast. Don't linger too long, either; at 7PM, you'll be compelled to leave whether you want to or not and will only have about an hour to find somewhere to take shelter...
FOUR: RUN RUN RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN It's late. It's cold. There's a bunch of snow around you and you can sort of make out vague shapes in the distance that might be buildings, but in these conditions it's hard to tell. Regardless of what they are, though, you're going to want to hustle - if it hits 8PM and you're still outside, you're not going to make it through the night. Perhaps that person up ahead can help you? Or - if you're already safe and sound - maybe you should head outside to get that poor soul struggling outside in to shelter before they freeze. Good luck!
[Give Hiro a moment. Because he sure did jump about ten meters in the air at the initial screech, instantly upright and wide eyed. That is. Not his alarm clock telling him to get his butt out of bed for classes, that's for sure. He's not sure what to make of the situation at first, the unfamiliar surroundings causing him to frown and tilt his head a little as he scans the room amid the noise before inevitably attempting to shut the tablet off. Because it. Won't Shut. Up.
And then it....screams at him. Wow, that isn't. Ominous at all? He inspects it, turning it around in his hands, noting the slot that seems like it should link to some sort of external memory device or something. Seems pretty tame and basic, but it's some tech. He could potentially work with this.
Assuming the thing. Actually works at all, terrible alarm or whatever that was supposed to be, aside. Time to test if it works.....]
@newangle
so it seems this thing does actually work. assuming others are also seeing this. thought it might be useless with the initial screeching and scream. which is a terrible alarm if that's what the noise is supposed to be, by the way. was half tempted to try taking this thing apart to shut it up. which i could do in my sleep. this thing is so basic.
was someone really screaming or was it just this thing being more determined to get our attention? regardless. not gonna find out much of anything just staying inside here, right? may as well try head out and see what's out there. can't be any creepier than this whole situation already.
Action; Run run run as fast as you can
[He's tired. So tired. Shorts baring his lower legs as he attempts to make his way through the snow rising at his ankles, possibly higher. The baggy blue hoodie he wears under the provided jacket doesn't do much against keeping his upper half of his body warm either. Nor are His sneakers the best for this weather but he has to make do for now. The important thing it to ignore how freezing it is, ignore that his lower legs are almost pretty numb because he needs to keep moving. Get to shelter. He thinks he sees some buildings up ahead, somewhere to stay for the night. If he can just make it that much farther for the night. It's dark, but he's nearly there, though it's difficult to really tell in this fading light and the stormy weather.
There's a figure up ahead, though he's not sure if they came from inside the building or if he's following them towards it, exactly.]
Hey, I'm seeing it. You have it working. I'm not sure what's going on with the tablets this time. I'm fairly good with tech, but I haven't gotten far with understanding the programming behind my tablet. If you can find out something I missed, hit me up.
[Tadashi frowns for a moment at his tablet. Something about the writing style seems vaguely familiar, but Hiro hasn't said anything so far to actually shove that tingle of familiarity toward a sudden jolt of realization.]
if you go outside, be careful. The doors lock down at night. There's no way to survive the overnight temperatures out in the snow.
'technicalities, huh? sure. i'll let you know if i come up with something. this seems pretty basic and simple enough. these seem important but maybe if i find a spare and i can try take that apart to check it out properly.
[Of course he's already contemplating upgrades for it. There's no major familiarity just yet on Hiro's end either. Largely due to him not even expecting his brother to be here in the first place at all after what happened back home.]
but we can survive being outside all day? i guess that makes sense. deserts are colder at night and all too. i guess i'm just. really not used to this kind of weather. it was never this bad back home. but i'll keep it in mind.
but i guess if we are supposed to work together and all, names help, right? i'm hiro.
[Tadashi's gaze skims over the text. He's already forming his reply when he sees the last word of the text -- and freezes. If Al and the others are in the same room, they'll hear him mutter: "No. Nonono. It can't-- he wouldn't--"
Jerkily, he flips on his video. Tadashi is dressed in layers and his hair is just a smidgen longer under his San Fransokyo Ninjas cap than he would have kept it at home. His expression is intense, laced with concern as he wills the person on the other end of the conversation to turn on there video -- to tell him his worries are unfounded and that he's just majorly overreacted.]
Hiro?
[C'mon. Tell him he's wrong. His little brother can't be in this mess.]
where is Baymax and his defibrillators when you need him.
[It takes a moment for Hiro to respond, his own eyes widening as he sits in shock, denial, some twisted sense of relief almost at the same time at seeing that face once more. Hearing that voice. It makes him half wonder if this is a dream. Because he remembers that fire so vividly. The crushing, numbing grief that followed for months. And yet.....here he is. There's no mistaking him. Even if his hair is a little longer.
It takes him a moment to gather himself, willing himself not to cry as he switches to video, hating the way his voice breaks under the weight of it all. Almost reaching to his tablet like he wants to reach through, to hug his brother again.]
Tadashi.....?
[Hiro might be slightly taller. Wearing a blue SFIT hoodie, the coat provided not yet shrugged on over top, laces of his sneakers possibly undone and his shorts really don't offer nearly enough warmth in this but he doesn't care right now. Not with this. ]
[Tadashi sits back against the wall hard, the strength going out of him. That's definitely Hiro. Because he's not looking for it, he doesn't really register that Hiro is taller -- he's more preoccupied that his brother is here. Whoever is behind all of this didn't settle for just one Hamada.
He should have seen this coming when Al's brother was brought in, too. If they missed someone, they always went back for them.
He leans his face into his hand for a moment, trying to collect himself. When he looks up again, his eyebrows are still furrowed together in distress.]
Oh man, Hiro. I'm so sorry. I really hoped they wouldn't go back for you. Are you okay -- are you hurt? Is Aunt Cass...
[He drags his hat off to card his free hand back through his hair and waits to hear the answer. He feels sick to his stomach. Hiro could be anywhere.]
[Hiro can't help but want to break right then and there. Because it is really him. Whether this is some crazy dream or otherwise. Somehow. Tadashi is here. And right now that is all that matters. Not where he is, not where his friends are, aunt Cass. But Tadashi. A face he never thought he would see again outside of photos and home video. With this revelation evidently the magnitude of the situation isn't yet sinking in. The rest he can figure out after reuniting with his brother once more. Surely.]
I'm fine. I haven't seen anyone else just yet but I just...got here. Where are you? I'll come find you.
[yes, Hiro is totally expecting Tadashi to let him run off to find him after barely arriving. Of course he is. And the elder probably picks up that he still seems a bit more tense, a bit more desperate than usual. Not just from arriving here.]
[That comes out too suddenly and Tadashi winces, shaking his head before he tries again, his voice taking on more of its usual calm cadence.]
No, listen. I need you to stay right there, okay? You should have rations -- make sure they last. Tell me everything about where you are and I'll find you.
[He's firm on that. After the experience he went through with the creatures that nearly killed his entire group, he's even less likely to feel completely at ease with anyone walking around without knowing where they're going. Not even when there's plenty of daylight to burn. It's just not a risk he's willing for his brother to take.]
I have people with me. I'll tell them what's going on and we'll come get you as quick as we can.
Can't I even try meet you halfway at least? I don't know that there's a lot to say from what I can tell in here so far. Who's with you? Gogo and the others? What am I supposed to do while you come find me then? Just sit here with my pretty much useless phone and handheld I guess. I think the food should last about a week though? But it wouldn't take that long, right?
[At least. He hopes not. There's still a pleading, an urgency there. Almost as if he won't really be relieved and believe this until he sees Tadashi in person. Because he probably won't. It's still too surreal for him right now. Hiro is fidgeting, nervous. He can't help it. He wants to run out and find Tadashi as soon as he can, but something's not right. His brother seems way too nervous and worried here, more than usual.]
It depends on how far away you are. Hopefully we can make it there in a few days. I know this doesn't make sense, but I need you to trust me. You need to go outside long enough to get a good description of where you're staying and what's in the immediate area. If there's a snowbank, I need to know what direction it's in.
[He takes a deep breath, shoulders slumping as he reaches up to massage the bunched muscles between his shoulder blades. Despite that, his tone becomes even more concerned at the mention of Gogo.]
Nobody you know. I'm with my friend Al and his brother along with some others we met along the way. Has Gogo gone missing?
[Yes. Yes he is heading out just in that hoodie and sneakers and shorts, outside just long enough to get a quick glance and relay the information Tadashi asks for.]
Al? But ah, no. No, She's fine. They're fine back home. As far as I know at least. Unless they just showed up here now like me or something.
[No. He is not going to mention Baymax. Yet. That can wait. Preferably forever in discussing the robot's last act if possible. Hiro is still crushed about it. He sighs, running a hand through his hair before glancing back to the tablet.]
[Tadashi lets out a relieved sigh -- good. If Gogo had gone missing, but hadn't shown up here... he would have started to fear the worst. Alphonse's talk about the Philosopher's Stone is still fresh in his mind, riding heavy in the pit of his stomach like a weight he can't shake every time he catches a glimpse of another hastily abandoned item in the houses they search every night.]
Good. Anyway...
[He subconsciously mimics his brother's nervous movement -- carding a hand back through his hair before tugging his baseball cap back into place.]
Al is a really good friend of mine here. He's not much older than you. You'll like him.
[They had discussed Hiro at length in the past. But always hoping that if Hiro ever met Al, it would be after this was all over.
Tadashi hesitates for a moment, scared for an instant of what he might hear. Then his expression softens as his concern for his family wins out over his fears.]
How've you been holding up? How's Aunt Cass? It's been two weeks now. I couldn't get any messages out.
Sure. If you say so. I guess it sounds like I'll meet him soon enough if he's going to come with you to find me. Which totally isn't making me feel like some useless damsel in distress or whatever, by the way.
[Seriously, bro. He's capable enough. Mostly. Besides obviously being totally dressed for warmer weather as the tablet trails over his body for a moment and he gives a sigh of his own. Debating. And still very confused. How much to tell Tadashi? Two weeks, he says? More like it has been months on Hiro's end of things. What would his brother even last remember if he really is somehow here? Wherever 'here' is, exactly. Hiro's still not entirely sure.]
She's fine. We're all fine. I mean, I'm still kind of cold from being outside in a hoodie and shorts, because it was hardly exactly winter back home and even then it doesn't get this bad.
[Is he being intentionally vague and trailing off there? Yeah, probably. But he'd much rather wait for a more personal conversation face to face.]
What about you? You're all freaking out about me being here, but it's not like if this place is that bad I shouldn't be worried about you going out in this?
Hiro Hamada l Big Hero 6 l aka what am I even.
