Network Prompts
ONE: @XX_BLAZEIT69 You’ve just downloaded a brand new application that you found in a building to your tablet. It turns out it’s some sort of username assignment program. Using it allows you to select current active usernames and rename them into new ones that only you can change. But with great power comes great responsibility—will you use this new program to give people usernames they’d like in place of an unfortunate one they gave themselves before they realized it couldn’t be changed…or will you give them something you think is more fitting for them, flattering or otherwise?
TWO: CONTENT WARNING It’s around the time that new arrivals should be appearing on the network, but you’re noticing a bit of a bigger influx than normal. When you click on one of the posts by one of them, you’re redirected to a flood of disturbing text and images that disappears completely once you manage to exit out—as if it had never been there in the first place. Maybe you should warn the others to be careful of what they click on. Or maybe you can discuss it with those who have already made the same mistake as you did. Perhaps you can set up a code system to differentiate the fake posts from the real ones.
Action Prompts
THREE: WALKING IN CIRCLES You’ve been walking all day, tirelessly, but somehow, even though you’re sure you’ve been walking in a straight line you keep passing the same landmarks and coming back to the same house you started from. You’re not sure if it’s your imagination or if you’re actually getting turned around, but you’re determined not to stop until you’ve found a new place to sleep in. Unfortunately, the longer you try, the closer you get to lockdown. Maybe the one you’re traveling with will be able to help you get your bearings before you both freeze to death?
FOUR: TOPSY TURVY It's past lockdown, and it should be a quiet and peaceful night - as quiet and peaceful as any night can get in Norfinbury, anyway. And you've even managed to find somebody to bunker down with! But about an hour or so into the lockdown, things start to seem just a little... off. Furniture you could swear was on one side of the room suddenly appears on the other. You might hear footsteps from up above you - even if there's no second floor. Or you might hear whispers, snatches of conversation just quiet enough to be unintelligible. Is your buddy messing with you? Or is this all just in your head?
Did..is anyone else having a bit of--ah--trouble with their..with their..
[Fitz trails off and he's glad, once again, that he opted for audio right now because he closes his eyes and snaps his fingers, trying to find the words.]
Device. Their device. [There we go.] Strange, um, ads or something like that? It's not on my screen anymore but it was.
[Or maybe he was just going crazy like Coulson.]
[THREE]
[By this point, Fitz was sure that he had passed by the same cluster of rubble several times already. It was starting to look familiar, as familiar as a bunch of rubble in the snow could look, and it was making his head hurt trying to process it.
The young man stopped walking rather suddenly, hands clenched into fists as he tapped them against his temples and tried to get his bearings.]
This isn't right. Something isn't right.
[His hands unclenched and he dragged them down his face, turning to look at his traveling companion then turning in a full circle to look around at everything.]
This is..it's all the same. Everything's the same. We aren't--this isn't--we need to try something else!
[ She could feel the increasing frustration rolling off of him as they'd been on the move. Building... and building... and building some more. It was really only a matter of time before he'd reach his limit and burst. A part of her can't blame him, really. It's alarming and frightening, especially for what it could possibly mean. She's still pretty new to the town, yes, enough that there's probably plenty of unpleasant things she's yet to experience there.
But she's heard the stories.
Doesn't stop her from visibly shrinking away at the sudden outburst though. Frowning under her hood, she takes a few hesitant steps closer to him, pointedly out of arms reach but still close enough to make her presence known again. ] Something else. Right. Um-
[ ...Yeah, thinking it over, she's got... nothing. Which just makes her fidget. ] You know, maybe the reason we aren't getting anywhere is because it really is the same.
We should have found a cabin by now--a building. Something!
[They had been walking for..how long had they been walking for? It had been close to an hour now, hadn't it? Fitz laces his fingers together behind his head and tries to take a few deep breaths, his chest aching and his body feeling more numb than he's comfortable with.
They needed to find shelter soon. They couldn't keep this up.]
What if we...what if we left something. Right here. A marker--and then we could start walking in a straight line and see what happens.
Oh! [ In contrast to just seconds ago, Elle's expression brightens measurably at the thought. ] Good idea, Fitz! Let's try that!
[ Already, she's putting her pack on the ground and starting to rummage through it. Something... Something to leave there. Something they won't need... Admittedly, with their supplies as limited as they are, there's not a lot she wants to discard, but...
...but eventually, she pulls out a small umbrella. ] What about this?
[Fitz turns to look at her and can't help but look a bit shocked that she seemed so pleased with his suggestion. Maybe he wasn't doing as badly as he thought he was.
He slips is own bag off his back and kneels down to go through it, pausing here and there to clench and unclench his hands as they refuse to do what he wants them to do--
His gaze snaps up when Elle speaks, the engineer perking up slightly at the sight of the umbrella.]
Yes! Perfect!
[Leaving his bag where it is, he moves over to where she's crouched and takes the umbrella--a bit more like snatching but he doesn't mean anything by it, he's just excited--looking it over then testing out whether it opens or not.]
This will stand out against the snow well enough, I think. Especially if we leave it open. [He turns a lopsided grin on her, resting the umbrella against his shoulder.] Right?
[ Maybe not. Or maybe she's simply used to expecting the worst in a situation but powering through it anyway. Who's to say?
But what's definitely certain is that she's- well, pulling her hand away quite abruptly at first if not without a warning squawk of: ] Fitz!
[ He remembers he can't make skin on skin contact with her!! Any single touch could be the death of him! Or... well, so her brain goes into overdrive with worry anyway, even with her gloves as a barrier.
Something she might be belatedly remembering. Long sleeves and gloves are her best friends forever here. But... you know. ..Yeah, okay, that's a little, sheepish smile coming from her, especially when she sees just how excited he seems by this idea. It's not quite enough to erase her worry from before entirely, but it's still enough to get her to nod decisively. ] Yeah, I really think it should, and then we should be able to find it if we pass by here again.
Ads? [ What. Kanan hasn't been looking around at the new arrivals - too depressing - so he hasn't seen anything like that yet. ] What would they be selling, snowshoes?
[Why does he always end up stuck with travelling companions no matter how hard he tries to avoid them? This one is worse than most others, he's slow and easily confused, but Bucky isn't about to just leave someone so helpless to fend for themselves on the snow. He's a better man than that now. So he stops and looks back.]
Maybe it is the same, it doesn't mean we stop moving.
[Fitz shakes his head, fighting the urge to start pacing as he gives the other--someone he probably should be scared of because he's seen the files on this guy--a frustrated look.]
We're wasting time! We have to find a building before..before the...em...before we can't!

Not that he'll admit he was ensnared in the same way. :) ]

I wouldn't call it being special. It's frustrating.
[Even more so because there's nothing he can do to fix it.]

Best enjoy what time you have left.
Soon you'll be parroting words and then the admin will put you out of your misery.

[Paranoia is eating at him now. Thanks for that, Vanitas.]
The admin isn't going to do anything!
[Right?
...Right?]
You're just--scare tactics are unnecessary.

Did you actually read anything?
There have been hundreds of sessions before this one.
All of those sessions ended the same way.

[Skye was no help right now, she was in the same position as he was. They were both exhausted, and cold.]
That can happen, right? I've heard of mountain climbers seeing things.
no subject
[It was at least better than the alternative.]
Did you see it too?
no subject
[Wait, is that not what he meant?]
What did you see, Fitz?
no subject
Nothing.
[A lie but he doesn't need to worry her more than he already does.]
Maybe..maybe we should try going back the way we just came.
no subject
We've been doing that, Fitz.
[They are basically stuck in Groundhog Day. Arms tightening around herself, Skye moved closer to him.]
Right now would be a great time for firewood to magically appear.

Maybe relying on visual cues is no good. Close your eyes, just walk on instinct and I'll follow to make sure you don't walk into anything.
