Network Prompts
ONE: BUMP IN THE NIGHT
It's dark out, and congratulations - you're inside! What's not inside, you might ask? Monsters. Shadowy monsters that have surrounded whatever house you've taken shelter in. They can't get in... or can they? From time to time, the doors and the walls creak as if under an unbearable pressure.

Who can sleep when it's like this? Maybe you should take to the network to find a distraction. Or maybe someone has advice for getting rid of those things.

TWO: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD
We mourn the loss of those who have died in the time between the last announcement and this one:

...is that your name on that list? It might be. Maybe you should let the others know you're not actually dead. Or, you know, if you happen to spot the name of someone you know and love on there, it might be time to ask around and see if anyone knows what happened to your dearly departed...

Action Prompts
THREE: KYRIE ELEISON
You've found yourself in a small chapel, complete with bolted-down pews, an altar devoid of symbols, and stained glass windows depicting various saints. It's quiet... one might even say dead quiet. Which is a really awful pun to be making, considering if you follow the stairs down to the basement you'll find a morgue.

Explore to your heart's content, but you'll be forced out at 7 PM. Hopefully you don't find any unfortunately familiar faces among the dead.

FOUR: LIGHTS OUT
Against all odds, you've managed to make it to shelter for the night. You pull the door shut behind you and turn to look at your surroundings - and that's when you see it. A ... person. Is it a person? It's hard to tell, because a moment later, you're plunged into darkness.

...better hope that's another unfortunate visitor to Norfinbury you've been locked in with, and not something more threatening.

Lynne | Ghost Trick

[personal profile] demisse 2015-07-31 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
network: ONE

[ She had very narrowly made the window to safety this time around, and her legs were exhausted from carrying herself and her newly found baggage all this way only to find a home that barely looked like it could hold itself together. It was better than nothing, Lynne figured. But as she sat down leaning against the wall, she couldn't let go of that lingering bad feeling in her gut about this place. Like it was still not any safer than outside. But beggars can't be choosers...

It was dreadfully dark, but she wanted to take a look see at the things she had picked up again today. She looked down at the new tool in her hand for a second, before jolting up and darting her eyes around at the appearance of an unwelcome sound. A long, groaning, thoroughly unpleasant creak. That wasn't the door, was it? Her heartbeat accelerated, and she could feel herself sweating. Maybe that was just her imagination? ]

EEEEEEK!

[ In a jolt she tumbles forward, items falling unceremoniously from her lap to the floor with loud clanks on impact. She could've sworn she just felt the cold chill of the winter wind touch her back, along with the grating noise of the wall behind her twisting. But when she looked at it, the wall still looked the same. But then it started again. Louder, and louder, the wooden structure sounded like it was going to come apart of itself. As if it were going to burst. Lynne grit her teeth and hurriedly picked up her belongings, hiding herself underneath a table. Maybe if they didn't see her, they would leave her alone?

The noises didn't stop, and they were on, and off again. Louder, quieter. From the same room, and from a distance. Lynne couldn't perceive a sense of whether she was in more or less danger than a few minutes prior. Eventually, she decides to pull out her device, and turned on the audio. She's very loud. ]

Nobody else's houses have broken in on them have they!? [ They'd probably be too dead to reply if there actually was, but, you know. She's just frustrated right now. ]

action: FOUR

Lynne breathed a sigh of relief she made it. It was another long day, but she accomplished a lot things considered and she was happy about that. But when she turned around, she catches a glimpse of a... person? But was it a person? The sudden veil of darkness--from the blizzard, she assumed--made it hard to tell, and it was hard to distinguish if they were still standing in the same place as before. That was only a glimpse for a second, too soon to tell the stranger's expression as malicious or no, but long enough to know she wasn't alone.

Her shoulders tensed up.

For all her jumpiness in personality, Lynne was still, technically, a professional detective now. She took a deep breath, and she reminded herself to remember her training. How composure was always the appropriate method to deal with any situation. But boy would she feel safer right now if she actually had her gun on her... Her finger twitched at the door handle, as if the place where she would normally have her finger on the trigger, more for safety measure than actual threat. You never knew what to expect here.

But, again, she had no gun. Or any other means to defend herself really... except maybe if she grabbed that nearby furniture in case of an emergency. So she gulped down her hesitation, and raised her voice, but not in any intentionally aggressive way.

"Are you also staying here for the night?"

She's assuming whoever it is is friendly, for now... but part of herself wonders if it's just to serve as self-reassurance.

Mine? No. Though it did try but I've fought greater than a doorknob. It held.
demisse: (right!)

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-01 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ Okay, that made her chuckle despite the situation. ]

I guess you're not so worried about it then huh?

[personal profile] ex_amperage109 2015-08-02 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Of course not.

[Totally confident. Totally bold. He is Thor, son of Odin, Prince of Asgard.]

Is there any reason why I should be?

[And then, almost on cue, there's a conspicuous sort of thump from his end. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere not in his immediate vicinity, but close, like another room or, well, outside.]
demisse: (what do you want?)

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-02 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeeah, that.

[ Lynne's not sure if she's more concerned about them getting in or the cold itself. Either way she knows she doesn't like this Funny Business(tm) ]

I guess they didn't show up for you until just now?

[personal profile] ex_amperage109 2015-08-02 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently-

[God damn, that was a thumping noise from some beast ramming into a window, but apparently the window was made from Bullshittium™ and held. He needs a better wtf mate icon, but in lieu of that this is the closest approximation. Enjoy.]

I heard noise earlier but I thought nothing of it.

[He's just kind of bemused because suddenly the thumping noise out front makes sense, and yet this feels weird because clearly, normally this would be the point in which they'd rip through the kitchen wall like the Kool-Aid man and he'd whack them with a hammer.

And yet it's not happening.

Huh. Gonna take a few moments to take this in. Gonna try the knob to the door. Knob is also made from Bullshittium™.]

I would think they'd have burst through by now. How long has this been going on for you?
demisse: (that's...)

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-02 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ If they (whoever They are) were going to make these things ridic strong, you'd really wish they invested in soundproofing too, huh? But life isn't fair, and as far as things making sense goes, we're in Winter Wrongerland. ]

Well, I haven't found anything like a good watch or clock yet but... I'd say it's been ten minutes if not more.

[ She pauses. ] ... You don't think whatever they are... they're just making these noises to mess with us, are you?

.......
demisse: (there's no time to lose!)

Because that'd piss me off!!

[ Welp. ]

Don't harass hapless survivors just to have a laugh! And they're not even laughing!

G-geez, you don't need to shout. We can hear you just fine.

[ And the little mage answers the call! Well sort of. He was getting rather concerned about the shadowy creatures outside himself (not scared mind you) and has been scanning the network for news. He just never expected the loud audio. ]

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-01 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oof, sorry. [ Last thing she'd want to do is freak someone else out in the process... ]

I'm just still not used to this whole thing. I've seen some pretty weird stuff, but it really had to be in the dark and cold here too?
alittlesmall: (02 | See? I can hold my own!)

[personal profile] alittlesmall 2015-08-01 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Apology accepted. [ that's much better! ]

I know what you mean. I have seen pretty weird enemies myself, but these guys are still pretty creepy. You should probably watch out, stay close to the light or something.
demisse: (well...)

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-01 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I have to poke around to see if I can find some sort of candle at least... it won't be much, but it'll be nicer than staying here freaked out. [ Hearing another loud bang, she looks up from her device, with a small grimace. But for now, getting psyched up for the task might be what's ideal. Talking does make her feel better. ]

What kind of weird enemies, though? The last night I had back home otherwise, my life was mostly normal.
alittlesmall: (07 | Just watch me go!)

[personal profile] alittlesmall 2015-08-01 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Good idea. You'll feel less panicked when you have a clear goal in mind.

[ Yikes, how does one explain the oddity that is the Risen to someone who has probably never seen it before? ]

The closest thing I can compare them to is a moving corpse. They suddenly appeared one day and started causing problems. It's probably due to the fall dra- [ Suddenly there is a loud creak from his end. Ricken grimaces similarly as Lynne did just moments ago. ]

Maybe talking about them right now isn't such a good idea ...
demisse: (--no...!)

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-01 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really regretting not taking exercise in martial arts! It must be nice to not really need a weapon to fight.

[ The words "moving corpse" has her attention for a bit--she widens her eyes and blinks when she hears some of the background noise from Ricken's communicator. She's not particularly superstitious or anything, but it would be bad to jinx it, wouldn't it? ]

It's going to be so hard getting any rest! I can't believe there are actually people who've been able to deal with this for a couple of weeks already!
alittlesmall: (04 | That is so irresponsible.)

[personal profile] alittlesmall 2015-08-02 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ a sigh. ] I think I finally understand why a friend of mine was so insistent on physically training mages. Even tomes have their limits.

You know ... that's a good point! How are they adjusting so well to this kind of situation? [ He rubs his chin thoughtfully. ] Maybe we're missing out on something.
demisse: (I'm sorry...)

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-02 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
You could always get a mini-workout carrying the thick thing around but... well, I'd feel a bit bad tossing around such a nice book.

It might be experience, but eugh at the same time there's just wishful thinking "I don't want to deal with this", you know? [ But maybe... it wouldn't hurt to ask. She mentally noted she could do that next time, it could help other people having a hard time getting sleep too. ] I sure doubt counting sheep is really working for me anymore, and thinking of people I miss just makes me sad...

alittlesmall: (07 | Just watch me go!)

I didn't mean to sit on this thread this long sorry!

[personal profile] alittlesmall 2015-08-07 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ouch. He was hoping they could avoid going into topics about home. Since he misses his parents and comrades terribly as it is. ]

What I used to do is keep myself busy all day so I would fall asleep as soon as I was in bed. But it's harder to do that here, so it might not be all that helpful. Sorry ...

Having a house all to ourselves can be troublesome, huh? It's not like the barracks where it's always bustling with people.
demisse: (really?)

It's ok Mimiru! /O/ I GOT IN so really this is just funtime tagtime now

[personal profile] demisse 2015-08-08 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
No, I understand that. I'd probably be able to do that too if it weren't for the noise...

Are you used to barracks? You must have really been involved in something important...
