Emily is quite invested in it, and, undoubtedly, it takes way longer for Alfie to tell it since he likely has to stop every few minutes and answer some kind of inquisitive questioning, or a "What's that?" about something she's never heard of before.
It passes the time, however, and it keeps Emily from worrying about being locked in, or monsters in schools, or the lack of Corvo and food, about falling asleep yet again with strange men nearby.
She doesn't make it all the way to the end because she's unbelievably tired. If she knew about the omittance of more gruesome things, she might be offended.
At least Alfie now has peace and quiet for a little while.]
