Network Prompts
ONE: BUMP IN THE NIGHT
It's dark out, and congratulations - you're inside! What's not inside, you might ask? Monsters. Shadowy monsters that have surrounded whatever house you've taken shelter in. They can't get in... or can they? From time to time, the doors and the walls creak as if under an unbearable pressure.

Who can sleep when it's like this? Maybe you should take to the network to find a distraction. Or maybe someone has advice for getting rid of those things.

TWO: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD
We mourn the loss of those who have died in the time between the last announcement and this one:

...is that your name on that list? It might be. Maybe you should let the others know you're not actually dead. Or, you know, if you happen to spot the name of someone you know and love on there, it might be time to ask around and see if anyone knows what happened to your dearly departed...

Action Prompts
THREE: KYRIE ELEISON
You've found yourself in a small chapel, complete with bolted-down pews, an altar devoid of symbols, and stained glass windows depicting various saints. It's quiet... one might even say dead quiet. Which is a really awful pun to be making, considering if you follow the stairs down to the basement you'll find a morgue.

Explore to your heart's content, but you'll be forced out at 7 PM. Hopefully you don't find any unfortunately familiar faces among the dead.

FOUR: LIGHTS OUT
Against all odds, you've managed to make it to shelter for the night. You pull the door shut behind you and turn to look at your surroundings - and that's when you see it. A ... person. Is it a person? It's hard to tell, because a moment later, you're plunged into darkness.

...better hope that's another unfortunate visitor to Norfinbury you've been locked in with, and not something more threatening.

[Three]

[It's a little familiar . . . but not. He'll still the chance to rest and take in his surroundings, trying to figure out what's happened as he admires the colors in the stained glass windows. He'd seen better, but it was something. He won't be exploring unless he hears someone else in the chapel.]

[Four]

[There's the sound of laughter, somehow, as the door to the shelter is flung open with a gusty swirl of snow. The figure that comes in is covered in white, and he'll shut the door with a thump, breathing in then sighing with another few chuckles. He has a big coat on, and he'll be shaking it out over here by the door. ]

That's some real heavy snow out there! Haven't seen it so thick in awhil--

[And darkness. Some more laughs, though they aren't quite as mirthful.]

Someone's here right? Hey, hello? Hello? Why is it dark?

[He'll definitely start walking into the darkness with his arms out; sorry if you get a poke in the eye.]
easily: (I wanna stay inside all day)

[She smiles, looking almost bemused as she opens the network up.]

It seems my brother isn't the only one with Jesus like qualities here if my untimely death is to be believed. Which it shouldn't be any more than his was.

[Klaus Mikaelson is not the messiah you're looking for.]

My name is Rebekah Mikaelson, like the one in the obituaries. Charmed, I'm sure.

[That's it, that's the post.]

A. Network. Prompt One.

[A device is on the floor, screen looking up underneath a skinny rusty canine, muzzle pointing at a wooden door with its teeth slightly exposed.

It looks down on a wooden scrape and creak, bristling, and talks in a high, compressed whisper without moving its mouth.]

Guys, do you hear that?

[He pauses to sniff the doorway. There's another creak and he jerks his head back, hair on the back of his neck standing straight on end.]

What's out there...? They can't get in, can they?

B. Action.

[Toboe's gait's slowed a bit, and as his mind's been wandering, so have his steps. It's still daytime, right? There's got to be some time left in this moving from spot-to-spot to forage something, which there shouldn't be a downside to - doubtful he's the only one in town who's hungry.

He keeps thinking he smells things he doesn't, though, out of wishful thinking: sausages cooking through windows back in the city, that slightly-old deer that the pack found way back when... even the whiff of Lunar Flowers, out of the element of nostalgia to dragging along a snowy path like this.

None of them are bad smells, but with one more sniff in the air conjuring up a scent that immediately vanishes, he's pretty well aware he's reminding himself of things that aren't there.

He leans - and then "lightly flops" - into a nearby snowdrift. Speaks up lightly.]

It feels like it's been a year since the last time I smelled food...

Thorfinn was used to the snow, it had never bothered him much having spent his earlier years in Iceland* he was okay with it but he knew to fear it. It was when he found his way into the church that his eyes went wide. Sure, he had seen churches before but stained glass always seemed to amaze him. He was still a little out of it from what had happened before he arrived so he sat on one of the pews his mind idly wondering why people cling to such places. His gods seemed much easier to please.

Having heard a noise he turned fast, snarling as he grabbed for his knives... before remembering they were gone.

Lynne | Ghost Trick

network: ONE

[ She had very narrowly made the window to safety this time around, and her legs were exhausted from carrying herself and her newly found baggage all this way only to find a home that barely looked like it could hold itself together. It was better than nothing, Lynne figured. But as she sat down leaning against the wall, she couldn't let go of that lingering bad feeling in her gut about this place. Like it was still not any safer than outside. But beggars can't be choosers...

It was dreadfully dark, but she wanted to take a look see at the things she had picked up again today. She looked down at the new tool in her hand for a second, before jolting up and darting her eyes around at the appearance of an unwelcome sound. A long, groaning, thoroughly unpleasant creak. That wasn't the door, was it? Her heartbeat accelerated, and she could feel herself sweating. Maybe that was just her imagination? ]

EEEEEEK!

[ In a jolt she tumbles forward, items falling unceremoniously from her lap to the floor with loud clanks on impact. She could've sworn she just felt the cold chill of the winter wind touch her back, along with the grating noise of the wall behind her twisting. But when she looked at it, the wall still looked the same. But then it started again. Louder, and louder, the wooden structure sounded like it was going to come apart of itself. As if it were going to burst. Lynne grit her teeth and hurriedly picked up her belongings, hiding herself underneath a table. Maybe if they didn't see her, they would leave her alone?

The noises didn't stop, and they were on, and off again. Louder, quieter. From the same room, and from a distance. Lynne couldn't perceive a sense of whether she was in more or less danger than a few minutes prior. Eventually, she decides to pull out her device, and turned on the audio. She's very loud. ]

Nobody else's houses have broken in on them have they!? [ They'd probably be too dead to reply if there actually was, but, you know. She's just frustrated right now. ]

action: FOUR

Lynne breathed a sigh of relief she made it. It was another long day, but she accomplished a lot things considered and she was happy about that. But when she turned around, she catches a glimpse of a... person? But was it a person? The sudden veil of darkness--from the blizzard, she assumed--made it hard to tell, and it was hard to distinguish if they were still standing in the same place as before. That was only a glimpse for a second, too soon to tell the stranger's expression as malicious or no, but long enough to know she wasn't alone.

Her shoulders tensed up.

For all her jumpiness in personality, Lynne was still, technically, a professional detective now. She took a deep breath, and she reminded herself to remember her training. How composure was always the appropriate method to deal with any situation. But boy would she feel safer right now if she actually had her gun on her... Her finger twitched at the door handle, as if the place where she would normally have her finger on the trigger, more for safety measure than actual threat. You never knew what to expect here.

But, again, she had no gun. Or any other means to defend herself really... except maybe if she grabbed that nearby furniture in case of an emergency. So she gulped down her hesitation, and raised her voice, but not in any intentionally aggressive way.

"Are you also staying here for the night?"

She's assuming whoever it is is friendly, for now... but part of herself wonders if it's just to serve as self-reassurance.

Nux | Mad Max: Fury Road

[personal profile] warfodder 2015-07-31 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
In the moment the rig began to flip, Nux's mind was the clearest it had ever been. His senses filled with Guzzolene and Chrome and fire, witnessed by one of the few people he cared about in all the Wasteland. His half-life ended on that day. Valhalla was just beyond the darkness.

This-- was not what he expected. The frigid wind bit his bare skin like Larry and Barry, his (now silent) mates, used to. It was not a hall of heroes but a different kind of wasteland. Pushing the shock aside, he knew he had to keep moving. Somehow, despite his abandonment, he felt stronger than he had in over 300 days. Not even bitter cold would crack this tough nut.

Action THREE: KYRIE ELEISON

This was unmistakably a place of worship, but it was no god that Nux had even known. Heavy bolts were the only decoration that looked familiar (the Cult of the V8 had a certain practical ascetic), but the strange designs in the stained glass held Nux's attention for quite a while. He stood still, wondering if the icons in the pictures were recorded somewhere in the stories told by the History Men. Not that Nux remembered many of those tales. There had been more interesting things to do than listen to old me talk. He just knew he wanted to be a part of them one day. (He was witnessed, and he believed Capable was safe somewhere. Maybe he still had that chance.)

Finally, he followed the stairs leading down, curiosity eventually getting the better of him. Nothing made sense to a former War Boy who had only known one way of life ever since he was old enough to walk. Maybe he would find something in his search. Anything would be better than not knowing.

As he descended, the smell of death was familiar-- and greatly unwelcome. What would he find as he explored farther? Nothing good, that was certain.

Action FOUR: LIGHTS OUT

Nux fled the cold, finding the only shelter he could against the elements. It wasn't large, but maybe it held something worth scavenging. Coverings or supplies or (if he had any luck at all) a ride. Food. Milk. Guns. Anything to help keep him alive.

Nux had long lost hope that this was his final resting place in Valhalla.

No sooner had the door clicked closed behind him than the shape of a man caught Nux's eye. A jolt of alarm ran through his body, and he tensed-- preparing to fight. Before his eyes were able to focus on the form, the room was thrown into darkness. Darker than even the deepest depths of the Citadel. Nux froze, listening for a sound from the form he'd seen. Had feral blood finally turned him mad, or was an enemy waiting in the shadows to pounce? He'd survived too many days against all odds to lose to a coward in a place like this.

Network one: BUMP IN THE NIGHT

[A noise startles her awake from an already restless sleep, her eyes darting around in the dark to catch a glimpse of whatever made it. So far as she can see, she is alone, the room exactly as it was before she closed her eyes.

The the noise came again, louder. It brings her to her feet immediately, eyes glowing faintly red, and hands poised to attack. It came from outside, she realizes. As if something was pushing against the house, causing it to creak and groan in protest. The doors and windows were bolted shut so as to prevent whatever it was from entering, and yet...

She turns to glance at the device on her table, hesitating a moment as she reaches out to it. Finally, with a reluctant sigh, she picks it up.

"That noise outside... Does anyone know what is making it?"

Action four: KYRIE ELEISON

It wasn't that she was particularly religious in nature, nor was she looking for God or any sort of deity to fill that void in her life. It was simply that for as long as she could remember, the church was somewhere she could hide away, sit in the pews in the back corners of the structure and not have anyone disturb her. This chapel reminded her of the one back home, though it was in far better condition than ruins of the building she found sanctuary in.

The quiet might have been discomforting for most, especially given the location and circumstances, but for Wanda, it was suitably absent of any distractions or unwanted company. And right now she very much desired to be alone.

The trouble was, something in the back of her mind felt strongly that she wasn't. Her eyes keep flickering back and forth from the empty alter to the stairs located to the side. A part of her was interested in following where those stairs led. The other part.... She shivers and looks away from them again, eyes now fixed on the window closest to her, determined not to give into temptation and explore lest she find things she would be better off not finding.

Eggsy Unwin / Kingsman

bump in the night;

[There's something outside trying to get in, because of course there is. Eggsy was content to ignore it at first but, surprise, it's a bit hard to sleep when something sounds like it's going to break the door down.

He takes to the network, as one inevitably does.]

Anyone else have them things knocking about outside the house? Any idea what they are, or at least how to make them fuck off?

lights out;

Eggsy was panting when he slammed the door behind him, but his breath seized in his chest when he realized he wasn't alone. He'd gotten only a glimpse, barely more than a figure from the corner of his eye, before it went dark.

He stayed at the door. Even though he knew he was trapped, instincts kept his feet rooted firmly at the exit.

"All right, bruv," he said. He kept his hands up -- a placating gesture despite the pitch black darkness. "I ain't looking for trouble. I just needed a place to stay for the night, same as you."
