Network Prompts
ONE: BUMP IN THE NIGHT It's dark out, and congratulations - you're inside! What's not inside, you might ask? Monsters. Shadowy monsters that have surrounded whatever house you've taken shelter in. They can't get in... or can they? From time to time, the doors and the walls creak as if under an unbearable pressure.
Who can sleep when it's like this? Maybe you should take to the network to find a distraction. Or maybe someone has advice for getting rid of those things.
TWO: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD We mourn the loss of those who have died in the time between the last announcement and this one:
...is that your name on that list? It might be. Maybe you should let the others know you're not actually dead. Or, you know, if you happen to spot the name of someone you know and love on there, it might be time to ask around and see if anyone knows what happened to your dearly departed...
Action Prompts
THREE: KYRIE ELEISON You've found yourself in a small chapel, complete with bolted-down pews, an altar devoid of symbols, and stained glass windows depicting various saints. It's quiet... one might even say dead quiet. Which is a really awful pun to be making, considering if you follow the stairs down to the basement you'll find a morgue.
Explore to your heart's content, but you'll be forced out at 7 PM. Hopefully you don't find any unfortunately familiar faces among the dead.
FOUR: LIGHTS OUT Against all odds, you've managed to make it to shelter for the night. You pull the door shut behind you and turn to look at your surroundings - and that's when you see it. A ... person. Is it a person? It's hard to tell, because a moment later, you're plunged into darkness.
...better hope that's another unfortunate visitor to Norfinbury you've been locked in with, and not something more threatening.
No amount of waffling before replying to the initial post would have helped with this. It's Brian and he's Brianing and Tim kind of just wants to lie face-down on the floor for a while or something. ]
You don't - you, uh, don't sound bad. Not for snow hell, anyway.
[ He attempts one of his shitty rubbish-ass half smiles. It comes off even less convincingly than usual since he's having trouble even looking into the camera right now. ]
But, you know - I've been here a while. A little over two weeks. I think.
Hey, I don't know, "snow hell" might be a little strong. [ even if it is creepy as he'll get out. ] I mean, it's got a church, right?
[ he takes a moment to mull over tim's words. two weeks... that can't be right. he just saw tim, what, two days ago now? it's not like tim's ever been the greatest with dates, but he's not really the worst either...
so brian nods, makes a note to ask some other time about it, and moves on. ]
Two weeks, wow... what all's happened? Have you been okay?
three; [ She's never been the religious sort, not like others in the Circle. But she can admit that there's some semblance of comfort in chapels and religious buildings. Or, at least, in the ones back home. The chapel she finds in this town is merely shelter from the wind and cold, the cloak she wears little more than thick burlap in the face of the ice and snow. Her ears are tinged red beneath the hood of her cloak, pulled up over her head, a dark cloth wrapped around her nose and mouth to keep her skin from blistering or cracking.
In the dark, the chapel is eerie. The sun is beginning to set, casting shadows and colors from the stained glass across the pews and the stone. For a time, she simply sits, resting from her trek, but she eventually goes to explore the basement and the darkness inside...as well as the morgue she finds.
Pushing back the head of her cloak, she stares down at the bodies. Some, she can tell, are fresh. Preserved. Others are not so lucky. And others, unfortunately, even seem vaguely familiar...
She doesn't want to think who has been here before her. ]
four; [ It is past nightfall when she finds a place to stay, pulling weary limbs out of the snow and cold as she steps across the threshold. The place seems dry and she can see a candle nearby, just enough for a light. As she pulls the door shut, she catches a glimpse of something - or someone - in the corner, and in that moment, the candle is snuffed out.
Neria grips her staff tightly in her hands, pulling it close. It's only a long staff of wood, used for walking and not for casting, and without her magic, she has no arcane magic to aid her. But she's learned to fight, how to use a sword. She won't go down without a fight.
Still, she wants to try-- ]
I don't mean any harm.
[ It's said gently, cautiously, even if her grip on her staff tightens. ]
[ Ohhhhh dear. Oh dear. Could Brian have asked a worse question? No.
Well, yes. Maybe. But that's still a question that demands a hell of a lie in response, since Tim is pretty much never okay. HURGH. ]
It - well. There's been a lot of snow.
[ There's the shitty halfsmile again! ]
And yeah, I'm... Everything is fine. What about you, I mean - the first day is. It's kind of a shock, so. You know not to get caught outside at night, right?
it didnt occur to me at all to try to scare them back! im not sure if it would work too well but i suppose it doesnt hurt to try. do you think theyre scared of dogs?
i duno stickygardens lots of people r sccared of doges where i come from y? do u have a dog witchu? i used to have a puppy called enrique n he was MOTHA HUMPIN ADORABUL mannnnnnn wanna pet ur dog wanna pet ur dog can he breath fier
i had a dog named bec back home and he was a good dog and my best friend, but sadly hes gone now. :( thanks to him im half dog now though! i have ears and everything, i really love them and theyre super fluffy and adorable. thats why i wondered if theyd maybe be scared of dogs, because i can bark at them and stuff. maybe i should bark from where they cant see me so they think theres a big scary dog inside the house?? no one wants to break into a house when they know theres a big scary dog inside right...
wate hold UP ur half dog, dogg????????? the front part or the back part i gess the front part bcuz u can bark? that is R A D u shud bark hella loud gurl n press ur snowt up against the window and show ur teeth!!! shadow dudez are gonna poop they pants
(hahahaaaahahhaha das so gross haha SHADOW POOP eww)
[the truth is, she's never really found much use for god, religion, or anything of the sort. in a world where she's been made and unmade time and time again, where survival hinges upon circumstantial truths, where monsters and magic are more than potential threats, they haven't merited as much as a second thought, because they just don't hold a place. she puts her faith, instead, in the things she's found along the way - second chances, small pockets of trust, the pure love that comes from clint's children.
when everything has been turned upside down and nothing is as she thought it was, when lines have been blurred and she can't tell the difference anymore, these are the things that matter.
a chapel is just a building, and a building is temporary respite she'd be stupid not to take advantage of. rest, recharge, regroup - these need to be the immediate priorities if she's going to keep going. it's a list that continuously runs through her mind as she steps inside, but comes to a stop when her eyes catch a familiar (and somewhat relieving) sight at one of the pews.
steve's back is to her, but everything about his posture is a tell that he's lost in thought - hunched over, slightly, with his head turned up toward one of the windows. no, not just lost; he seems like he's a million miles away in thought, and she feels like she's walked into something private, something that she debates turning away from. but instead, she watches him quietly for a time, then walks down the aisle to the pew and takes a seat next to him, saying nothing to announce herself when she does.
even if none of this means anything to her, it means something to him; it isn't her place to intrude forcefully. she lets out a breath, lets some of the tension out of her shoulders, and allows the silence between them to linger.
hehehe, its not one half in particular that is more doggish than the other, its more like a lot of doggy habits and ideas and stuff that i now have in my head, along with the doggy ears and sharper teeth and stuff! i wish i had a snout though that would be so cool... but if you really think it would be a good idea im gonna go bark at them right now!!! i will report back shortly with my progress on making them poop their shadow pants. :B

[ The light goes out, plunging her into darkness — and then there's a voice, one that makes Clarke jump a little. She turns, eyes squinting to make out the figure in the dark. Her newfound company is a woman — this much she can tell from her voice — but aside from that, it's difficult to make out the features of someone so far away. In the dark, everything looks like a smudged charcoal drawing. ]
Good, [ Clarke answers, voice a bit raspy like she hasn't spoken all day. She hasn't — she's been traversing Norfinbury alone, with no companion to offer so much as a friendly pat on the back. ] I don't either.
[ The woman sounds somewhat wary, so Clarke softens her tone as she steps closer to the source of the voice. ]
"What fun," Dorian muttered. "Have you seen anyone that might be responsible for this, this-" He gestured at the world in general. "Place," he finally said in a tone filled with disgust. "And our presence here?"
do bullets count? i used to play catch with bec by shooting bullets for him to catch... im not sure if i could do that here though because i do not have my powers! i would probably just get shot and that would not be very fun. :( throwing grenades at bad guys sounds like an interesting alternative, but that doesnt sound as much like a game of catch as it sounds like a game of throwing things... trying to catch a live grenade in my mouth before throwing it at monsters sounds potentially dangerous, unless you were going to throw the grenade for me to catch and then i pull the pin and then i throw it at the monsters? i am not sure what we are going for here :o but if you like making songs and raps so much, i think you would like to meet my friend dave! hes very funny and cool and really good at raps. speaking of which i am jade!! its nice to meet you. :)
[ Jim freezes. He hadn't expected company, so his only weapon - a bit of pointed glass sticking out of a washcloth - was still in his pack along with everything else. He'd never be able to get to it in the dark without slicing his hands to ribbons in the process; best case scenario he could throw the bag at whatever it was.
He hesitated because it had sounded human, and nothing else he'd encountered here had. ]
That's quite a list of places Miranda didn't recognize. Ferelden and Orlais sound like the highest order of classification, there; she made a note to research it if she ever got access to the extranet in this god forsaken place.
"A small colony on Bekenstein in the Serpent Nebula. We were involved in manufacturing, before the war."
