TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: BREAK.EXE
You wake up with a new app on your tablet that has a picture of a mirror as its icon. When you open it, you find, unsurprisingly, a mirror. At the bottom of the screen is a single button labeled "BREAK". But when you press it...nothing happens to the mirror in the app. So what does happen? Maybe you hear the distant sound of a mirror breaking--a phantom sound, you find, as nothing has broken in the building you're currently staying in. Maybe you felt a crack render your own flesh. Maybe you felt it render something intangible inside of you. Whatever it was that happened, you're plagued with a sudden onset of foreboding. You have a feeling that your luck has just changed for the worse.

TWO: MIRROR MIRROR
Something's wrong with the Network. No matter what you pick, video is still attaching to all your messages. But even stranger, all the videos feature you reflected in them. That's you, in another building, saying words that aren't your own--you're sure of it. What's going on? And is it the same for everyone else? Maybe you should talk around and check. Maybe it's just a temporary glitch.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNFRIENDLY FACE
There's a strange mirror in the building that you and your traveling companions have stopped in. When you're not looking at it, you get the strangest feeling like someone is watching you, looming just over your shoulder. But when you look at it directly...at first, nothing happens. And then you see your companion behind you in the reflection. There's a weapon in their hand, and they look ready to plunge. Whether or not your companion is standing behind you or not, you turn to find that they're not poised to attack at all--and didn't see anything out of the ordinary at all.

FOUR: KNOCK KNOCK
You and your traveling companion are having a horrible time sleeping. Just as you think you're settling in, you hear the sound of knocking. At first you think it's the wind, but the sound only becomes more insistent as the night goes on. When the two of you investigate, you finally find that the source seems to be coming from a mirror on the other end of the building. It's dirty and old, and has been covered with a cloth and faced against the wall. Someone wanted it to be forgotten. But now that you have it...the sound's stopped. Maybe it really was just the wind.

@harleyquinnxoxo

oi, anyone awake? this weird noise is givin me the willies. and not the good kind. guess it could just be an auditory hallucination, i am sooo not in the mood for any more spooky things.

yeesh, now i feel all weird too. almost like i've gotta fresh sense of heartbreak all over again. sure is easy confessin this stuff to the network void, anyway. and so close to valentine's day, too........ :(

[3 ; action]
[she was always a pretty heavy sleeper. but something about that knocking was just so damn persistent, so irritating, that eventually, harley springs to her feet, storming angrily towards the source of the sound.]

Damn it, like there ain't enough trouble as it is. I've gotta get my beauty sleep just as much as anyone else, yanno!!

[her storming slows to a cautious tiptoe as she realizes where the sound is coming from. as she approaches, it's clear--the knocking is coming from inside the mirror. underneath her greasepaint, her face blanches, and harley begins to rapidly scoot back.]

Aw, hell no. No way, no how, nuh-uh!

[she turns to address the mirror, almost shouting at it.]

What's the deal, mister?! Ya think I haven't seen spooky movies before?! No way am I pullin' off that cloth and lettin' you come out and ghost me away! I'm not some kinda idiot, ya know.

Reflect on that!! Ha!

[and with that...hilarious last remark, she begins to slowly back away. so much for not scared, harley; you're gonna bump into anyone standing behind you if you aren't careful enough.]
automailiac: (a swing and not a miss)

Winry Rockbell | Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Network; I; text
@wrench

[She pressed the button. Once, twice, three times, frustration growing inside her. Frustration and... something else, like an hairline crack in an automail part, one of these caused by too much stress on the metal.]

If anybody else has the mirror app, don't push the button.

[She means it as a warning, her thoughts full of worries. Everything is bad news in this town, but this one feels personal.]

Keep yourselves safe.

Action; III

[Winry just stands, and stares at the reflection in the mirror for a while, eyes as steely as she can make them. It's like it happens in slow motion; her traveling companion's hand rising, the makeshift weapon barely visible in the dark cover of night. Still, it catches her eyes, and Winry tightens her own fingers around the handle of the fire poker she's holding. While it's no wrench, it served her well since she found it in one of the many abandoned houses of Norfinbury.

She turns around quickly, brandishing her weapon high above her head, and in the next second she strikes, going for her companion's hand. It's too late when she realizes.

No one is attacking her, right now. She just struck her fire poker in her companion's hand, empty of any weapon. With her eyes going wide with horror, Winry drops the poker, covering her mouth with both hands.]

No, no no no, I'm sorry, I thought - the mirror - you were going to attack me, I only reacted!

[Not an excuse, and she knows it. She turns around again, looking into the mirror for just a moment before she turns back, closing her eyes tightly. She's seeing things, now, and the thought makes her sick to her stomach. Taking a calming breath, she drops her hands to her sides and takes a step forward, mouth twisted with worry.]

Are you okay?

Dorian Pavus | Dragon Age

[personal profile] whiteknightnecromancer 2017-02-15 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
One

Dorian should really have known better but he'd been hoping for something more... useful. Mirrors could be used for any number of things, including traveling. Maybe he'd broken open a secret passage. But that sound had only reminded him of the shattered bits of mirror lying all around the Qunari stronghold and he felt nothing but dread as he searched the house for a sign that the broken mirror hadn't just been in his head.

Three

Whirling and putting his arms up in a defensive posture Dorian turned to face a companion who... was across the room. Knowing he looked like a madman, he turned back to the mirror. "What the bloody fuck do you think you're playing at?"

It would, perhaps, be instructive for anyone in possession of the 'Break' application to make use of it and report what results he or she finds.

[He'll leave it at that, content to see what the others do. Mycroft isn't terribly inclined to go accessing random programs without having someone else test them first for security.]

Four
If you'd like to check it, then?

[Mycroft is staying back away from the sound, thank you. It's been enough to find the source, and he'd prefer his companion suffer any ill effects from testing it before himself.]

[It is, as ever, perturbing to have his brother's voice filtered through an American accent.]

Not at all, Dr. Strange. I don't wish to taint the data pool with an upfront statement of the effects. If you'd like to deliver your results in confidence, I intend to synthesize the data for future use and distribution.

[He's not saying he hasn't used the program, but nor is he saying he has.]

[ Steph had been reaching out to touch Winry's shoulder. The other girl was obviously freaked, but Steph couldn't see anything strange about the mirror. She definitely thought Winry could see her coming, and didn't think she'd be surprising her at all.

Fortunately she has good reflexes, and rather than being stabbed through the palm she's just slashed, in the space under her pinkie. Not even an important finger! Still she curses and grabs at her hand, instinctively trying to stop the bleeding. ]

Shit, you've got a good arm. I'm-- okay, I'm not particularly okay. Can you grab my pack? I've got bandages and stuff, I just need to stop the bleeding somehow.

Who are you talking to?

[ The Cat is hard to bump into accidentally. He is, however, quite easy to trip on if you start moving too fast.

His tone is more annoyed than curious. He had been enjoying a nice nap before this two-legger started shouting for no reason. ]

[That is not a comforting message to see displayed this morning; in fact, it's the opposite of a comforting message!]

Winry, what happened?

[Something must have done for her to make that sort of warning.]

Are you hurt?

[personal profile] brotheryours 2017-02-15 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's tempted to just keep up talking at Sherlock's texting, but he'll defer for the moment.]

One data point is hardly any use given the variety of effects witnessed in previous such program offerings.

[Based on his review of the network, anyway. He'd had a rather dull first day sorting through it. The people here are so very concerned about such pointless trivia most of the time.]

Have you tried the program, brother mine?
howdull: (happy] amused)

[personal profile] howdull 2017-02-15 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's so annoyed that Mycroft is here, he's bound to start in with his incessant fussing about utter trivialities before long. His brother may be marginally intelligent, Sherlock isn't willing to concede more than this, but he's a fool when it comes to realising that Sherlock always knows what he's doing when it comes to things such as drugs.

Perhaps he doesn't know.

Interesting, that would suggest Mycroft is from an earlier time, which makes his lips quirk slightly in a smile. For all that terrible things have happened, having information that Mycroft doesn't is always wonderful.]

I don't need to try it to know what it does.

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2017-02-15 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, as long as it's confidential....

You're aware of what happened with the Hide and Seek app, right?
brotheryours: (curious | disbelief)

[personal profile] brotheryours 2017-02-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
One may presume what it does broadly based on previously-accrued knowledge of the nature of this little town, of course. And the title is no doubt indicative.

I hardly think we need worry about your mind breaking from reality, though, even if you did test it. You do that so very effectively on your own. Tell me, Sherlock, have you made a list? I can only imagine the number of supplements you managed to accrue before you were, doubtlessly, cut off.
brotheryours: (neutral | leg work)

[personal profile] brotheryours 2017-02-15 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Very.

[It's why Mycroft hasn't tested it.]

Are you afraid, doctor?
thewarningafter: (goatee | determined | injured)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2017-02-15 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

[A little.]

Are you?
howdull: (anger] unimpressed)

[personal profile] howdull 2017-02-15 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[He glares at his tablet for a minute. Why can't he lie right now? Why?! Of course he's made a list, that's the arrangement, but he's not about to admit it to Mycroft. Especially not over a public network.]

Overdramatic as always, but then it must be important for you to deflect from your own mind failing. Lack of food can do that. Still, at least your clothes might fit better.
brotheryours: (neutral | so bored)

[personal profile] brotheryours 2017-02-15 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone with an ounce of sense would be. I'm hardly a masochist. You needn't pretend you are for the sake of seeming less of a coward. You are what I believe the people here refer to as a hero, though, are you not? One presumes a certain level of risk-taking from such individuals. All the better to spare the innocents.
thewarningafter: (griefbeard | snark | late fees)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2017-02-15 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
'Hero' is a little dramatic, don't you think?

[Say it again. Give him that sweet sweet recognition.]

There's taking risks to spare innocent people, and then there's touching a hot stove no one needed to touch in the first place. [But which someone else may if he doesn't do it first and warn them about whatever result he gets. He sees the argument coming.]
loveismadness: (HEY THATS NOT FAIR)

too little, too late, harl.]

Oww, my heinie...!! What'd ya do that for?

[the cat was not necessarily at fault. but it doesn't matter. harley is already distracted by the original issue.]

Kitty, that mirror...!! Somethin's been knockin' at us all night like some kook is tryna get out and skin us alive!! I mean, I know I'm looney tunes, but it's gotta be real, right?

[nervously, she eyes the mirror.]

If I had my mallet, I'd smash it.
brotheryours: (neutral | watching)

[personal profile] brotheryours 2017-02-15 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

[Sorry, Stephen. He's just being the agreeable sort.]

Now the question has been posed, though, some brave and helpful soul will doubtlessly happen along. Your services won't be required, although, the person who burns him or herself may feel otherwise.
brotheryours: (annoyed | smug)

[personal profile] brotheryours 2017-02-15 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Always so quick to his weight when on the defensive.]

If you didn't make a habit of lying, you might find your death price more tolerable, brother mine. Would you like me to press you on the matter?

[Because he's happy to start phrasing things in ways Sherlock really can't get around. It's only a mild threat, though.]
thewarningafter: (goatee | determined | intense)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2017-02-15 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You're the one goading people to press a button you're afraid to press yourself. This is on you, not me.

[He's going to press the button. Not yet, not without protesting, not without getting peeved about it, but Mycroft is correct and Stephen is not the sort of man who can stand by and let it happen to someone else.]
brotheryours: (neutral | leg work)
