Network Prompts ONE: TIME TO CHECK WEBMD You've found the pharmacy, which is really convenient, since you're not feeling that great. Actually, you're feeling terrible. Maybe you have a fever, maybe you're coughing up blood, maybe you're vomiting... Whatever it is, you should probably try to get some medicine for it. Well, if you can figure out what it is. Maybe someone on the network can help you out? Alternately, you know exactly what you have--but for whatever reason, the medicine here isn't something you can easily understand. You have to choose between a couple of options, and you don't know the difference. Hopefully someone on the network can tell you which will heal you and which will probably kill you. TWO: NOT SO HELPFUL AVATARS Every tablet has the option for a customizable avatar that will talk to you and keep your tablet in order. Maybe you set it up, maybe you never checked it. Either way, it keeps popping up unrequested and being sort of... Odd. Flickering, talking in strange, mechanical voices, offering advice that's unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst... Maybe it's even telling the entire network some things you've been doing you'd rather everyone didn't know. Time to call tech support. Unfortunately, the best option is other people on the network. Good luck. Action Prompts THREE: SCHOOL DAYS You've ended up in the elementary school. Maybe you're grabbing more food, maybe you're exploring. Either way, this place is creepy; the atmosphere is the sort that gets the hair on the back of your neck rising (potentially metaphorically, if you don't have hair or a neck). It's not long before strange things start happening. The sound of running and screaming children, doors slamming in far off or nearby hallways, pianos playing... What's going on? It's hard to tell what's really happening from what isn't happening. Maybe someone who's also exploring has some idea. FOUR: SUPPLY SCRAMBLE You've just walked into a house, and look, there's fresh fruit sitting right out on the counter! How long has it been since you've had some of that? It'll definitely help provide some much-needed vitamins and maybe it will ward off scurvy and the like. There's even more than one piece! ...And there's more than one person here, too. So, what are you going to do? Are you willing to share, or are you prepared to stab someone over a pear? Time to find out just how badly you want that food.

Considering the creepy piano music and the pitter patter of little feet, I'm guessing we're about two corridors down from a pair of twins standing in front of an elevator.

But I don't think this glitch is like you, Cole. [Not that he understands what Cole is, exactly.] You are an individual, capable of free will and thought. The glitch stems from something artificial. I'm afraid I can't explain it any plainer than that.

[ Likely the only place to find booze and confiscated items. Although, House doesn't have terribly high hopes for an elementary school. Kids these days. Much too clean-cut under the age of eleven. ]

Oseltamivir or zanamivir... might be under the names Tamiflu or Relenza. Are you just sounding things out? What kind of shit pronunciation is that? Or are all the meds here from Mexico?

No, I just made it up. I don't know what Mexican medications are supposed to sound like.

[ A pause. This is going to sound incredibly ignorant, and she knows it will, but— she's never taken anything before. ]

So how do I take it?

[ There is judgment in this gaze, Malia. Can you feel it? But maybe she means doses and how long. House isn't usually one to be that charitable when someone is being a moron, but she can't be that much of an idiot. ]

Amoxicillin first, Keysmash. I don't have the lab to test if you've got bacterial or viral pneumonia, but bacterial's more likely. Take 500 mg orally 3 times a day for 7 days. I'd write out a script, but I'm fresh out of paper and we're fresh out of pharmacists. Tell me how to get to where you are and I can pull some pills together for you.

[ Jim's on his first expedition into the tunnels and jumpy about it. Though being underground, out of the wind and snow, should be more comfortable than trudging through the mess outdoors he's nervous about enclosed spaces since the arrival of the shadows.

It's a relief, then, that he notices a new message on the network and embrace the distraction. That relief turns to worry when he realizes what the post is about, but he's quick to respond. ]

Hey, I think I'm pretty close. Hang on, okay?

[ Then, because he's compelled toward honesty: ]

[ Batis dropped the backpack against the open door frame as she stumbled into the classroom frosted white from the broken windows steadily seeping in the chill over the years. Largely unaffected by the cold, but slowed by her exhaustion and injuries lumbered into the room as a bear would shoulders it way through unfamiliar territory. Powerful, but hampered by its own hesitation.

One slip up could mean the end for even a seasoned traveler; she knew this and still uneven footing found her and landed her in this unpleasant predicament all the same. A gash as long as her hand and wide as her thumb stain the side of her abdomen red through the segmented leathers of her cuirass and oilskin duster from where she fell out further in the woods where a sharp rock clipped her. A mistake a decided lack of healing magic would have her come to regret and bitterly curse as she dug through the pack. Body propped limp up against an upturned desk.

Lighting a small fire inside a sliced open soda can stuffed with cotton soaked in alcohol, Batis starts to hit the tip of a knife over the small flame. She intended to sear the wound closed with the rest of the alcohol in her stomach to dull the inevitable pain as a pieced of a wadded and torn shirt was stuffed between her teeth.

Before the distant footsteps kicked up in the hallways above her, or she heard the disembodied voices - there was only her unbroken concentration as she pressed the red tipped blade to her exposed skin. ]

The pharmacy's in the ice tunnel things. You can try to get there, I guess, but it'll probably take awhile.

[Faris didn’t have the patience to figure out the little critter on the tablet out. It didn’t seem important.
Well, it didn’t seem important until the blazing thing started to chatter when the pirate tried to get some shut-eye or skulk about for supplies. Listening to the “helpful” advice didn’t work either. The stupid thing was trying to lead its owner to danger.

This was either someone’s idea of joke or this thing was possessed by something. First, Faris needed to figure out how to stop it, and then try to discern if this was an isolated incident or not. Waiting around for someone to bring it up wasn’t this pirate’s style.]

Anyone knows how to shut this dullard off?
It keeps prattling on at night and trying to get me in a tight spot.
If this is someone’s daft idea of a joke there will be hell to pay.



IV. Action

[Faris will claim all the fruit by licking it al!

Okay, they wouldn’t go that far. Even with scurvy being a very real thing for the buccaneer, Faris will approach the fruit with trepidation. It was fresh fruit out in the open of an abandoned home. There had to be a catch. ]

Who could have left you here? [Faris picked up an apple to inspect it carefully. It looked normal. It smelled normal. It could still be poisoned.

That’s when Faris noticed there was someone else there. Looking from fruit to the newcomer with grin. Thanks for volunteering to be the guinea pig, person.]

[Joining the ranks of miserable teenagers, here's a kid who's stubbornly refused to give out his real name, and who sounds just as raspy and gross as anybody else on the Network today. And just as grumpy as usual.

He picks up a pill bottle, and shakes it so the microphone picks up the clatter of medicine against plastic.]

I've got thirty pills of amoxicillin. [Have a horrible bubbly sounding hacking cough, which just makes him more annoyed than before.] I'll trade for the same amount of enrofloxacin.

[He sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Except for the part where he's trying to trade perfectly good human-safe antibiotics for antibiotics for pets.]
