Network Prompts ONE: TIME TO CHECK WEBMD You've found the pharmacy, which is really convenient, since you're not feeling that great. Actually, you're feeling terrible. Maybe you have a fever, maybe you're coughing up blood, maybe you're vomiting... Whatever it is, you should probably try to get some medicine for it. Well, if you can figure out what it is. Maybe someone on the network can help you out? Alternately, you know exactly what you have--but for whatever reason, the medicine here isn't something you can easily understand. You have to choose between a couple of options, and you don't know the difference. Hopefully someone on the network can tell you which will heal you and which will probably kill you. TWO: NOT SO HELPFUL AVATARS Every tablet has the option for a customizable avatar that will talk to you and keep your tablet in order. Maybe you set it up, maybe you never checked it. Either way, it keeps popping up unrequested and being sort of... Odd. Flickering, talking in strange, mechanical voices, offering advice that's unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst... Maybe it's even telling the entire network some things you've been doing you'd rather everyone didn't know. Time to call tech support. Unfortunately, the best option is other people on the network. Good luck. Action Prompts THREE: SCHOOL DAYS You've ended up in the elementary school. Maybe you're grabbing more food, maybe you're exploring. Either way, this place is creepy; the atmosphere is the sort that gets the hair on the back of your neck rising (potentially metaphorically, if you don't have hair or a neck). It's not long before strange things start happening. The sound of running and screaming children, doors slamming in far off or nearby hallways, pianos playing... What's going on? It's hard to tell what's really happening from what isn't happening. Maybe someone who's also exploring has some idea. FOUR: SUPPLY SCRAMBLE You've just walked into a house, and look, there's fresh fruit sitting right out on the counter! How long has it been since you've had some of that? It'll definitely help provide some much-needed vitamins and maybe it will ward off scurvy and the like. There's even more than one piece! ...And there's more than one person here, too. So, what are you going to do? Are you willing to share, or are you prepared to stab someone over a pear? Time to find out just how badly you want that food.

[ If this were in person, that 'stupid' comment probably would warrant something physical. But it's not like she can punch her tablet screen, so she ignores it, instead pausing as she thinks of an answer to his question. ]

Uh, nope. [ Well, once — but that was a special case. ] Strong immune system?

[He doesn't sound convinced, but he's willing to give it a try because he doesn't like to think of anyone in pain when it might be preventable.]

I think Clayton checked it when he was here though, and he's a doctor so he would have known if he found anything useful.

[Still, he starts off walking slowly to make sure his new companion can keep up. The sound of his footsteps is incredibly loud in the quiet school, clanking metal echoing down the corridors.]

If we don't find anything in there then I'll help you get to the vet's office, okay?

[ It's a question, but it doesn't really sound like one. Quite frankly, she's not sure she wants to know. ]

Have you tried asking it to be quiet? Maybe it'll listen. If you ask nicely.

Well, for starters, the fellow attempting to advise me on this sordid contraption!

[Oh. There it goes again. Talking about his mother. Nope. There's a resounding crack as Ramsay unceremoniously smacks the device against the nearest wall.]

[What a helpful kid. It's almost sickening. How much can House prod him, then? Seems like a pushover. Those are always fun.]

Sure thing, pal. So, you've got a doctor here, then? [He limps along beside the kid, the heavy clank of armor making him feel a little less self-conscious about the thunk of his cane.] My experience? They're all morons. I wouldn't trust them.

I'm not a rabid dog! [Raising his voice leads to another gross coughing fit.]

And I'm not gonna go out there and freeze my tail off for something I haven't seen yet!

[ Wrong. So wrong! Her mom's gone, her dad's no hippie, and she spent much of her life sleeping in the dirt. Not exactly hypoallergenic. Dryly, she replies: ]

No, I lived in the woods for eight years.

[ She scrunches up her face for a moment, both annoyed at the sound and confused about who he's referring to. Then, she perks up. ]

Oh, you mean Clippy?

[Alas and lackaday, Al is way too trusting to think that House is deliberately teasing him.]

[Excuse you, Clayton is his friend.]

Maybe the doctors where you're from aren't very good, but Clayton seems to at least try to help when people need him. I've not had to be treated by him myself, but he gave me some good advice about my brother's prosthetic limbs.

[ That really doesn't rule out the hippie parents from his perspective. ]

[oh no, he didn't. She snaps into a combat-ready stance and points her weapon at him in warning, baring her sharp teeth. Her tail lashes once, like the tail of an angry cat.]

[if she's a robot, she's a very well-articulated one. As for her being a fursuiter, her legs are jointed all wrong, and too sinewy for human legs to be hidden inside—unless she's half-furry and half-robot, which would be interesting. The possibilities are endless, really.]

Say that again, if you want a fight. I don't care if you have got a cane.

[Hm. He peers down at the flickering screen which is blipping and blooping utter nonsense at him by this point.]

I almost feel as if I should be disappointed.

[He's sure Clayton is a good doctor, but Snowhell isn't a helpful place.]

It's kind of hard to treat people when you can't see them in person, don't have access to supplies, and are being hurt by this town too.

[Whatever she is, he kind of wants to yank on her tail. Her ears. As she's a wild animal waving something pointy at him, though, he relents on being an asshole for just a moment, one hand coming up in a 'stop' motion.]

Say what? What are you? People said there were creatures in here.

[Granted, if she were one of them, he'd probably already be dead. Good enough for a cover for now.]

[As House is discovering, himself. Still, why not keep prodding? Might learn something else.]

Those sound like a lot of excuses to me, kid.

[He glances down at House and the slight flare of the lights in his eyes suggest he doesn't like this slight on Clayton, but his tone is still mild.]

Sometimes excuses can be pretty valid. I bet he'll try and help with your leg, he might even be able to do something for you.

It doesn't sleep or have emotions, Cole. It just... it's a thing, not a person.

[Dorian hoped. Some of the "maybe it's an AI" theories floating around the network gave him the creepy crawlies.]

[ Malia pauses briefly. ]

[ It's the truth — it is complicated and weird, and most people aren't exactly accepting of the whole supernatural creature thing. ]

Yeah, I'm sure 'Dr. Clayton: Medicine Man' will be able to do something without supplies, while being hurt, and not present. Miracle-worker that he sounds to be. Pick up the pace; sign says the nurse's office is this way.

[He shuffles along a little faster down one of the halls, though Al should be able to keep step with him easily. The shadows seem to grow darker as they go.]

I don't know, I think so. Whenever I write an essay for school, somebody like it pops up and he's called Clippy. He's supposed to help you.
