TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW...
Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.

TWO: CABIN FEVER
Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING
You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.

FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING
You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

( the step forward is a good sign, and Shion is smiling, but for a moment his look turns quizzical and he glances himself over his own shoulder. is there something there? no, not that he can see. it's just the two of them. he turns back to her and, with one hand clutching a backpack strap and his other hand extended towards her in an open gesture, he shakes his head. )

No, sorry, it's just me. You're the first person I've seen in--a while.

What kind of heroic tales would you prefer to hear? Ones that end well?

( maybe it should be obvious because hope and good cheer aren't exactly in over abundance here, but still. )
ossifragant: (⊕ precious like starlight)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2015-05-23 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Right now? I'm just interested in feeling warm.

[He laughs, though. Like he's not currently dying in the snow.]

It doesn't matter to me-- not really. All I want is to be free, to be my own man.
braavado: (It can't hurt to stay a little while)

[personal profile] braavado 2015-05-23 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her expression softens.]

You're really something, you know? [Now she gives him a wry smile.] And I'm supposed to be the one giving pep talks here.

You're right, though. We might not have our bending or our alchemy here, but that doesn't mean we can't take it.
hetrustsme: (How could you leave on Yom Kippur?)

[He holds her then lets her fall down gently, so at elast she doesn't just flop onto the floor.]

Kara, you need to tell me your sympthoms. I could try to look for some medicine? But I'm really not sure if we'll find any in this place.
braavado: (So that's why you kept me there)

[personal profile] braavado 2015-05-23 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the same for me. I was hoping-- [Korra shakes her head, sighing.] Just hoping that you knew where more people were. The only way I've been able to talk to anyone else is through that flat thing I found when I woke up here.

[She looks him over now.] Did you need a place to stay? I think the doors are going to lock up soon.

[It's not a mechanic she's really fond of, but so far she hasn't found a way around it.]
pointnshoot: (uh uh uh (SHIT))

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-05-23 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not for a very long time," Bard admits, "but that doesn't mean they weren't thinking about it. Smaug was very dangerous, after all, and with no dwarves nearby, there was no one to make new black arrows, so anyone who sought to kill him would only have the one chance. In the meantime, Girion's wife and child settled in Esgaroth, which was called Lake-town because it was built in the middle of the Long Lake, within sight of the mountain. They couldn't live the life of a lord's family there, but they were safe and happy enough. The black arrow and the tale of Smaug's attack were passed down in their family from parent to child for generations, always wary but comfortable enough that there seemed no need to risk waking the dragon, who hadn't come out of Erebor except to add Dale's gold to his great hoard."

How is he supposed to tell the next part? It's still fresh in his mind, memory rather than story, but it wouldn't be right to tell the story as it used to be and not address how it finally ended. So, just when the pause starts to seem like another prompt for Kara to say something, he says a little more.

"And then, one day late in the autumn more than a century after Dale and Erebor fell, a company of dwarves arrived."
pointnshoot: (oh yes absolutely)

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-05-23 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well you don't sound like someone who'd get everyone killed or run away with all the gold, which is about all Bard requires in a business connection, so why not? Not like they'll have time to worry about it until they've got this place figured out a little better anyway.]

I shall keep you in mind, friend. Thank you for the advice.
vaultexile: (Can I go home now?)

[personal profile] vaultexile 2015-05-23 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah like a highly advanced computer simulation. I've been in two and they can be pretty realistic. It would explain how people come back from the dead.
vaultexile: (Say that again)

[Hope managed to find her way inside this night and catches the video.]

Do you recognize anything near you? I'm in a old red house on the corner of a street. I think there was a mailbox near it.

prompt 2 ❧

[ Mamizou doesn't exactly hate the cold, but...that doesn't quite mean she's down with it, either. Getting locked out was an absolutely miserable experience that she did not at all wish to relive -- so what better way to stay warm than to laze around in a building for days?

Well -- that didn't actually turn out all that well for her. Boredom is a terrible, horrible burden for a free spirit such as herself, and, well -- she doesn't remember the past few hours, actually. All she knows is that she's woken up face down in the snow, missing her shirt and glasses...at least she had fun, maybe? At any rate, she picks up her tablet, makes her way to the closest shelter, and sets about to finding her lost things in what is clearly the most efficient way possible: asking everyone else where any of it is. ]

Excuse me, dears. I seem to have made a mistake. If anyone could help me to locate my glasses, I would be very thankful.

...Oh, and my shirt, also. The details are all very fuzzy, so if anyone could fill me in I would also be very thankful for that, too. Also, if you have ended up the victim of any practical jokes in the past few hours, I would just like to say that unless it was absolutely hilarious I had nothing to do with it. Thank you!

prompt 3 ❧

[ Oh, what a nice, wonderful house! She'd prefer something just as comfortable outdoors, really -- but given the situation, that didn't seem like something she'd likely to come across anything of the sort any time soon. But whatever, whatever, take what you can get, right?

So without any regard to who or what may be nearby, she sets to lighting the fire and herself a cigarette, and then crashes on the couch. Surely nothing will disturb her, at all. ]
kindlings: (head tilt)

[personal profile] kindlings 2015-05-23 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Alayne. A snooty, highborn name if she'd ever heard one.

Still, the girl has a spine at least, with the way she'd gripped the fire poker, and Ygritte can respect a woman who would attempt to protect herself despite all odds. She drops her satchel down on the floor, closing the door behind her and comes closer to the fireplace to temporarily warm herself. ]

Ygritte. [ She gives the girl another once-over, curiosity in her look. Hard to tell how old she is, whether older or younger than herself. ] You're by yourself, here? None travelin' with you?

prompt 2 ★

[ Strange creatures lurking around in the corner of her eye weren't anything new to her -- nor were the ones right in front of her. Her whole time in Norfinbury, in fact, wasn't too much out of the ordinary. Really, for her, the most concerning thing was that there were other people around. And that they didn't turn into horrible monsters when you tried to talk to them! She could even go out and meet them...if, you know, that idea didn't sound terrifying and awful when she could just stay right here safe and sound like she has been ever since arriving.

Oh -- right. There were other people here. And she could talk to them, right? Of course, she had no way of knowing whether or not they were really real or not, but at least they could tell her whether or not the things she was seeing right now were 'normal' for...whatever place this was. ]

Hello? Is anyone there...? Um, I wanted to know...does anyone see these weird -- I guess they're jellyfish -- does anyone else see those everywhere? I'm just trying to make sure if I'm awake or not.

kindlings: (smirk)

never ask!

[personal profile] kindlings 2015-05-23 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Now this is a sight, Ygritte thinks; it's not often she sees someone in this frozen wasteland standing their ground in the face of someone else encroaching on a shelter they'd found. It hasn't happened often, but when she's confronted someone, they'd usually taken one look at her in her doeskins and rabbitskins, a fierce and wild look in her blue eyes, and immediately left her to the goods.

Not so, this time.

Her lips curve upwards in a slightly crooked smirk. ]

Not yours, neither, if we're tellin' it true. Didn't stop you, did it?
sageprincess: (Standing before)

[personal profile] sageprincess 2015-05-24 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
You can hear me.

[Stating the obvious, but the situation is disorienting enough for it to hopefully be forgiven. This man - Greed? an odd name, perhaps her lip reading skills have something left to be desired - has not also had his hearing taken from him like she has. Is there a reason for it? Her mind spins with possibility--

Oh, right.]

My name is Zelda.

[Her breathing has calmed a bit, at least. Trying to communicate forces her to focus.]
ossifragant: (⊗ well we'll take care of that for you)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2015-05-24 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Nice to meet you.

[He nods carefully, trying to figure out what's going on. He still doesn't have a clue where he is, but those warning beeps are probably telling them to get out of this place. Greed isn't sure he wants to stay, anyway. This is a morgue. Sticking around is pretty unsettling.

He tries to calm himself, tries to put on a charming smile and move with the confidence he usually does. He keeps eye contact for a long, deliberate moment before he looks around again. Noticing the door, he turns back to Zelda, tipping his head towards the door.

Hopefully he can communicate they need to leave without having to rely on her reading lips.]
warriorscribe: (Slightest of wavers)

[personal profile] warriorscribe 2015-05-24 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[That part had been worrying him, he had to admit. Nearly dying, that had happened before, several times. He had always been rescued by his trusted guardian, but now there was nothing but waking to a cold morgue, naked and alone.]

You've been in two... [He doesn't know what a computer is, but he doesn't need to, to understand this much.] How did you escape those?
hugeballs: (is an art that's hard to teach)

[personal profile] hugeballs 2015-05-24 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ She's doing amazingly, of course. You know, if amazingly meant that she'd lost most of her belongings and ended up somewhere completely unrecognizable to her after blacking out, then yeah! Great.

Of course, she's never one to despair over something so silly as a major, dangerous setback -- and at the very least she still has her pipe and tobacco. Smoking does a lot to calm the nerves. Unfortunately, it doesn't do much for being without her scarf and glasses in the middle of an abandoned, frozen wasteland. Fortunately, she had a network of helpful people to badger endlessly about her missing things! ]

Oh, just great, dear! Couldn't be better. Ah -- do you happen to have any sake?

The tablet? ( flat thing? maybe she's one of those people whom he's seen on the network talking about other worlds. he makes mental note to be sure to ask what is like where she's from. he takes a hand and drags it through his bangs--it's a habit of his. )No, unfortunately. At some point I think it would be worth it to go and look for people. It would be better than using that thing to communicate. But for now, please, if you'd have me, I'll be imposing.

My name is Shion. ( he doesn't offer his hand but instead a polite dip of his head. )

[While England would accept the offer in an instant if it were another nation, taking supplies from someone he presumes to be young and mortal doesn't sit well with him. He does consider it, but ultimately he shakes his head and picks up the fireplace poker to absently stoke the flames.]

That won't be necessary. You should hold tight to your supplies; food isn't easy to come by when the weather is like this. [And when the town seems to have long been abandoned by whatever inhabited it before.]

( in his response his eyes look a bit distant, as they always do when he's recalling really specific information. he does have an astounding memory, though, so it's almost like he gets a little lost in it. )

Mailbox...I think I may know. It was in a more obviously resedential area? I'm not too far away from some kind of a church.

Well the second was a normal one. It was military training, you reach the end of the missions and you're out. I just followed orders and survived till the end.

[Which hadn't been easy but compared to the next...]

The first was run by an insane scientist and I had to find the failsafe hidden in the world to get out. I've been keeping an eye out here but so far nothing.

No; rest. [ it's soft spoken, an insisting directive as she slides from him, as she leaves his arms for the crackling warmth. ] Stay warm. [ that is what's imperative. what he wants, looking at her. what she needs, and what he feels compelled to give her. his attention turns to the gaping hole in the floor, and then to her form as she settles, safe and huddled by the fire.

it was worth it. (for so many reasons.) tearing up the floor, no matter what issues it incurred: including the gauged state of his hands; a gruesome inconvenience if anything. klaus flexes his fingers with a terrible wince, tests their usefulness before he moves to his feet. (it's here his healing abilities would go a long way and the absence grates on him. in the place, a lack of proper care might prove dangerous.)

he grits his teeth as he moves the planks back to their proper place as best her can, covers it up to the best of his ability. the leftovers he arranges beside him for the fire.
