He's used to dealing with the Operator and its time-and-space shenanigans, so if that was the explanation for all of this at least he'd be able to deal with it. He's yet to see it--to feel it--in this strange place, but what else could do that sort of thing?
The idea that there might be two (or more?) of them is worrying. Far easier to accept that this place had something to do with the Operator, then. That maybe Tim's theory was right.
