Network Prompts
ONE: A LONG WALK HOME You wake up at 6AM when lockdown ends, cold and tired, like you've been walking miles in the snow. But that's normal, isn't it? What isn't normal is your surroundings. You're in a new building, maybe one you've never seen before, or one you know is far, far away from where you were the night before when you fell asleep. If you were traveling with someone, you notice, also, that you are alone. There's no telling where your traveling companion could be.
When you check the network, you notice that @ADMIN has left a message.
Surveillance encountered an error shortly after 8PM last night and was out of order until shortly after 6AM. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Whether or not you're confused or concerned about the message, maybe a post to the network will help you re-orient yourself.
TWO: GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE... Seems you've found a rather valuable commodity. Something like alcohol, tea, coffee, cigarettes, or perhaps even something medical. Whatever you've found, you have no real interest in it, yourself. But you know that there's a market for it, and you see the opportunity to turn this into a win-win situation. You're not physically around anyone that you know of, so you propose a network-wide trade. And whoever makes the sweetest deal can be the proud owner of their craved luxury.
Action Prompts
THREE: A SYMPHONY OF SOUND You and your traveling companion thought that the house you decided to stop in for the night seemed normal enough. But lockdown hits, as it does every night, and things start to get strange. Soft sounds of crying; children crying, parents crying, screaming for their own safety. Maybe it's just the sound of the wind rushing so hard through the rubble you fear the ceiling will collapse. Maybe it's your own voice whispering to you to do awful things. Whatever the noise is, it's too much for you to fall asleep, coming to eerie crescendos and ebbing in volume at entirely irregular intervals. Looks like you and whoever you're with are in for a long night.
FOUR: IN DUE TIME After a grueling day of travel, you and your companion finally come across safe shelter. And it seems to be a nice house, too, with a working fireplace and everything. The only strange part is that you aren't alone--but the other people in the house don't seem to be aware of you. In fact, they don't seem to be aware of anything; they're frozen in time, unmoving, unblinking, not even breathing. They can be touched, but they can't be moved. No matter how hard you try, they're rooted to the spot. They seem to be like you, weighed down with heavy winter wear and backpacks, not like the nondescript shadowy people that wander the town.
Oh well. They're probably harmless, and it isn't like you have time to find a different place to stay.

Red | Transistor
[Well then! Red isn't much of a snack food person, sweets aren't her thing, but she is sure that someone on the network might appreciate it. Maybe she can get something good for them.
First off, Red posts a short video to the network. It consists entirely of her, smirking and holding up the three chocolate bars she found. The brands are unrecognizable to her, but maybe someone else is familiar with them.
After that, she switches to text, so that she can communicate.]
As you can see, I've found three candy bars of some sort.
Anyone want to do a trade?
--------
three: in-person
[Though she is sure that the sounds of children crying are meant to unnerve her and her traveling partner, but they don't have that effect on her. Instead, she can't help but feel sorry for them. Whatever happened to them in the past to make them haunt this home with their crying, it must have been terrible.
Thanks to the Camerata, Red can no longer offer any words of comfort to the disembodied cries. But she can still hum, and she hums a little tune to try and calm the crying. Or maybe to calm herself and her companion here down instead? The crying of the dead can gets to the living very quickly.]
three
Regardless, it is hard to ignore, because it gets so loud at times. So she appreciates when her quiet companion offers a more soothing alternative to listen to. After a few moments of listening attentively, she picks up her tablet to send Red a message; it feels more natural for her to communicate this way than speaking aloud and waiting for Red to answer.]
@cchun, text;
That's a nice song. What's it called?
no subject
@red, text;
It's called 'In Circles'.
It's one of my better ones, I think.
no subject
I didn't know you wrote music. That's really interesting. I don't have a lot of musical talent, myself.
Does it have lyrics?
[That is maybe not the most sensitive question to ask, but Catherine doesn't mean it maliciously. Her eyes are lit with apparent, genuine curiosity as she asks, so it's clear that she thinks nothing of it except learning more about Red's musical interest.]
no subject
It does.
Unfortunately, I can't sing them right now, for obvious reasons.
In contrast to the soothing sound of the melody, the words are actually about how the singer won't help the listener with their problems, which are the reason why the listener is running around 'in circles'.
[Don't mind her, she takes pride in her work. Complex metaphors and interesting connotations are her kind of thing.]
no subject
It's all right. I was just curious.
I wouldn't have guessed that was what it meant. It sounds so peaceful.
Is there a reason you wrote it that way?
[Contrasting the lyrics with the melody must be significant!]
no subject
Sometimes sweetening the message makes it easier to swallow.
@ariel; video; I MEAN TWO
It does attempt to look at least somewhat disinterested, for bargaining purposes, but it may not be very good at it.]
What's your asking price? I might have a few things I can spare. For a fair trade.
@red, text
I don't suppose you would have picked up some makeup?
Failing that, soap or perfume would be nice.
[Food she has been able to get so far (enough to keep her from starving, at least), so she figures trading luxury for luxury would be best.]
no subject
I, ah - [it clears its throat and tries to summon its Betan negotiating instincts.] Soap is much more of an everyday necessity than chocolate, you know.
no subject
Though if the price is too steep, perhaps one of the other options would be better?
@fenrir; text; two;
Depends on what you want in return.
@red, text
Perhaps makeup, or perfume, or something entertaining to pass the time?
I would also be open to the possibility of real food, like flatbreads, but I doubt that can be found here.

That's quite a walk from where I am.
[She's not opposed to the hike, but she only has high heels on and the snow is very unforgiving.]

Oh, she almost feels like an animal now, unable to grab firmly any item, she can still turn her ears around separately and focus on more than a single sound source at time- which is- unpleasant in such a building. She rasped more than once against the wall with her hooves, she tried to sniff the wooden floor to locate... anything but in the end the unicorn just curled in a corner, trying to let the night pass."Mmmh?"
Both her ears suddenly turn in Red's direction when she starts to hum and after a moment even her head turns: it can't really distract her from the cries of the dead, it doesn't seem to offer any real comfort to whoever is haunting the house but it's something and perhaps if Twilight manages to focus enough on that she will be able to calm down and study the situation a bit better, maybe even find some clues.
"Please, don't stop."
no subject
She does have her tablet in hand, ready to type out whatever she needs to say, but she will wait on that for a moment and see if Twilight speaks up first.
no subject
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you." She raises a hoof in front of her "But your song-" She stopped herself in time before making a comment on how beautiful her voice- or whatever was left- was "It's helping me a lot. I doubt we will get any sleep tonight." She's interrupted by a woman, not too far from them, screaming and calling her child "But it helps me concentrate. Whatever happened in this building... there must be a clue somewhere."
And, even if Twilight has her fair share of problems doing so, she grabs her tablet with her mouth, leaves it on the foor and gently pushes the device with her nose in Red's direction. The screen is covered in scratches and bite marks but it's still working.
no subject
But Red won't be rude and refuse the tablet. Instead, she picks it up and types a message to Twilight, before setting it down for Twilight to read.
Did you want to go looking for clues?
Red won't discourage curiosity, even if it means she has to help. Maybe they can bring peace to whoever is crying within the building.
no subject
"Well, since we're not sleeping maybe we could try to figure out who lived here. Or what happened, if there's anything left. Sadly the few notebooks I found before lockdown were all soggy and covered in mold, meaning we'll have to look somewhere else if we want to find... something"
Twilight doesn't know what to expect or if there's anything left for them to discover but- anything is better than sitting in a corner and just listening to their cries. Right? Not even a book would manage to distract her, now.

3 /slides goat over
Toriel herself cannot speak in this moment, but she can hum weakly. The house around them begins to quiet somewhat.]
aww yee
Then she pulls out her tablet to type something, which she then shows to Toriel.]
You catch on quickly!
Are you a musician as well?
no subject
I am not. I just have far too much practicing singing to children at this point.
no subject
Oh? You're a mother, then?
no subject
Yes. My child Frisk is here now. I am hoping to find them again soon.
