Network Prompts ONE: SEE THAT WE CAN SEE It's late and you're settling down for the night when you notice a strange light coming from... outside? Through the heavy snowfall, you can just make out the haze of glowing eyes in the distance. Dozens of them. It's difficult to tell through the window, but they seem to be staring directly at you. Since it's after lockdown, you can't get outside to investigate, but maybe others in town are seeing the eyes too. You'd better take to the Network to see what's going on. TWO: BEHIND THESE HAZEL EYES You can't sleep. You've been trying, trying, trying. But every time you close your eyes, you see the eyes of the prophet etched into the insides of your eyelids. The symbol only seems to get brighter and clearer the longer you keep your eyes shut, the closer you get to drifting off. It chills you awake. Nothing seems to help. Maybe there are others on the Network who are having the same problem. Or, at least, someone who doesn't mind keeping you company through the long hours. Action Prompts THREE: THREE'S A CROWD You and your traveling companion are exploring what looks to be a perfectly normal building when you notice something strange carved into the wall. Is that an eye? Strange indeed, but what's stranger is that new carvings keep appearing, always where you're not looking. Soon, the whole room is full of eye carvings. Is your companion doing this? If not them, then who? FOUR: THE KNIFE'S EDGE Most everyone in town still has eyes that are either glowing or shaped like the prophet's symbol, and your eyes are no different. These are the same eyes that made everyone attack each other a few nights ago. Every time you catch a glimpse of yourself, maybe in the reflection of a window or the video feed on your tablet, you feel a little sick. Unfortunately, your traveling companion's eyes look strange too, and they're the opposite of yours. Both of you are in danger if those murderous urges come back, which makes it difficult to trust each other after what you've been through. It's late at night when a dark thought crosses your mind--you do have a knife. Not that there's any reason to use it, of course... Right?

Anyone else still up?

I'm bored to death here. What I would give if this place had King's Knight to pass the time, it sure gets boring being locked up at night. Especially when you're otherwise a night owl.

[Or you know, can't sleep. Which usually isn't a problem for Noctis...]

It almost makes me miss being out at night back home. Almost.

FOUR

[Noctis has tried to keep to himself. Naturally, he's a pretty shy guy, and he feels out of sorts being here. Out of his element, as it were. However, the eyes haven't helped him ease into this situation any, and further such when there were others trying to kill one another over them.

Which leaves him to his idle thoughts regarding such as he turns a knife over in his hand. He has no desire to use it on his traveling companion, even if they have those creepy prophet symbol eyes, while his own merely glows.

It does, however, lead to the alarming thought that his companion might turn on him. Suddenly, he's grateful for the knife in his hand, but then wonders what his companion might be armed with. Worried eyes glance their way across the room while they're not looking, as he tries to assess them for possible weapons.]

So... Ever think our eyes will go back to normal? Not that they're not cool, or whatever, but I gotta say, they're a little freaky.

[He asks this, casual and cool, hiding any worry that might be bubbling beneath the surface, tucking the knife away meanwhile. He doesn't want to give off a threatening vibe if he doesn't have to, after all. Let alone cause a fight because of misconstrued intent.]

Oh I see. I shouldn't be surprised that sort of crap's here, but I guess it does have its entertainment value. Sure beats having a staring contest with the wall. But even so, something like that wouldn't "corrupt" me, but it doesn't mean I particularly care to hear the bizarre and poorly written fantasies of a stranger. So, thanks for the consideration, I guess.

what, you're not even slightly curious how 'tab a into slot b' can be written fifty times without sounding trite? because believe you me, they're trying very hard to make it sound interesting.

I've tried the whole hero thing, I'm pretty good at it, if I do say so myself. But, I dunno. I'm not gonna lie and say I want to hear about it, but I wouldn't mind lending you a hand if the weight of your burden is clearly too much.

Well firstly, the main character is practically every species under the sun... including 5% dragon, 3% demon, and 2% faerie? something like that.

Yeah. I've been experiencing something along the lines of intrusive thoughts and possibly hallucinations whenever I've tried to sleep.

If I had to take a guess, are you experiencing something similar?

[Because if you are actually posting this just because you're awake and bored and not taking the opportunity to sleep, she too will be judging super hard.]

Every time I try to sleep I keep seeing these eyes. Makes sleeping impossible. I dunno if I should be glad that I'm not alone in this.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The bigger problem is going to be whether this is all we'll have to deal with.

If the worst we get is a bad night's sleep, that's pretty generous by this place's standards.

Pretty sad if this is considered generous. Then again, we're stuck in a winter wonderland infested with daemons, left to fend for ourselves, so I suppose you're right.

I just hope this is a one night deal, I really don't do well with little sleep.

[Sora still wasn't sure what to make of the young man he'd ended up spending the night with. He and Roxas had gotten separated and Sora had hunkered down in the first house he'd come across and, lo and behold, he hadn't been alone. Noctis wasn't anyone that Sora had met before and that immediately made him nervous--though the fact that they both had glowing eyes was at least something of a comfort.

He had tried his best to be friendly towards the other but the other man seemed on edge, which had led to Sora just settling down across the room to sort through all of his stuff.

And attempt to get in touch with Roxas.

The sound of the other's voice startles him and he glances up from the notebook he'd been writing it, head tilting.]

I'm not really sure. I hope they do but sometimes...sometimes things that happen in this place don't fix themselves. [Sora glances down with a sigh.] I'm worried this is--everyone seems worried this is all going to end badly.

[Noctis honestly feels a little ridiculous being so uneasy, especially when his company is just some kid. Well, a teen, but kid enough. He's really gotta get a grip on himself.

Sora's words are far from comforting, but he guesses that's just the nature of this place. It's not like he was seeing much comfort back home either, after all.

He lets out a tired sigh.]

Yeah, I figured.

[A thoughtful pause, before he continues, asking in a softer tone than before:]

What about you? Do you think it will?

[Hey, no harm no foul. Sora understands the uneasy feelings all too well. If he wasn't feeling so crappy he'd probably be a touch more wary. But right now? Right now he's just tired.

Sora starts to say something then stops, mulling the question and his response over before he shrugs.]

Based on what's happened in the past? Maybe...I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure it doesn't. And I know others will too.

[He lets an awkward pause fall between them, before continuing:]

If I can help it, I want to keep the bad crap from happening too. It just totally blows that this place has robbed us of our powers. Would make everything a whole lot easier if that weren't the case.

Nah, it's a fantasy multiplayer mobile game. With knights and stuff like that. Way better than chess.
