TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW...
Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.

TWO: CABIN FEVER
Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING
You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.

FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING
You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

figureitout: (◐ dying to stop you)

stiles stilinski | teen wolf

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-28 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
prompt one; network

[He was so sure he could be back on time. So sure. He'd calculated the time he had left, it should have been more than enough-- but after banging on the door of the house he'd been staying at, then banging on all the doors of all the houses he could find... Stiles was forced to admit there might have been something that went wrong with those calculations. It was always Lydia who was good at math. Maybe he would have needed her notes for this, too.

And hell, he hates the cold. After just a few hours outside, huddled against the wall of the last house he tried to get in to, it's already seeping in. It almost feels like the bathtub full of ice, except back then he was dying to save his dad, and the dying wasn't, you know, permanent. (Is it, here? Maybe not, but he'd rather not have taken the chance.)

Typing on the tablet is out of the question, but at least he can still talk.]

So... this would be a good time for someone to tell me this whole "don't stay outside the night" thing is a total lie. Someone? ... Anyone?

prompt four; action

[He wakes up with shuddering gasp that soon turns into a fit of coughing. There's a voice ringing in his ears-- the tablet, telling him to leave... and it doesn't have to tell him twice. Staying in the morgue? Yeah, no thanks, even he isn't that morbid.

Which is probably a bit ironic, given that he just came back to life. But Stiles isn't complaining, definitely not complaining, even though dying of hypothermia certainly leaves something to be desired, not an ideal way to go, 10/10 would not recommend-- instead, he stumbles outside, taking out his tablet to see what is going on... but all the words on it seem jumbled, some of the letters moving up, some down, until he can't make any sense of what he's seeing.]

No- [oh no, no, not this again, not again--] I... why can't I read this? Hey! [He stumbles as he tries to run to the person nearby.] Hey, can you read this?
promises_to_keep: (what the actual hell?)

[Lea turns sharply when there's movement on his left, but he lowers his guard a bit when he sees it's just a kid. He looks kind of panicked, though, and Lea's eyes move upward to see where he was coming from. Ah, so he'd woken up in the morgue; he guessed that was as good a reason to panic as any. He'd done the whole dying and coming back to life thing back home, and it hadn't been terribly fun. It certainly isn't anything he wants to go through again.

[He takes a step back as the boy staggers toward him, but it's more to avoid a collision than out of any aversion.]

What? Read? [He leans over and peers at the tablet--it just looks like the network, so far as he can tell.] Well, sure, it's just a page of the network. [He points to one of the entries.] I've seen this guy's posts before, he's usually good for a laugh. [Which was rare these days. He frowns at the kid and shakes his head.] Why? Can't you?

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-29 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[It would probably be funny, in some other situation, how his main concern isn't that he just woke from the dead and instead that he can't read. But experiencing this again, the letters moving and getting all mixed up... he thought it was over. That the- door or whatever, that it was closed, that nothing can get in anymore.

All Lea is in danger of being hit by is the tablet that Stiles thrusts basically in his face... except with the response, he withdraws it slowly, dragging his free hand through his hair before leaning his forehead against his palm.]

... No, genius, I can't. [But the response ends up sounding more freaked out than sarcastic.]

[Under other circumstances, Lea might have gotten sarcastic right back--'Well excuse me, but I thought you looked at least partially educated!'--but he just sounds so panicked he can't quite bring himself to do it. Instead, he pulls out his own tablet and opens up the network, then turns it so the kid can see it.]

Easy, champ. Maybe it's just somethin' wrong with your gizmo. [Logically that isn't the case, since he can read the kid's tablet just fine, but he's sure stranger things have happened.] Here, any better on mine?
figureitout: (◐ this world is not meant for you)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-30 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[The look Stiles throws at Lea when he offers his tablet is equal parts hopeful and resigned, but he takes a look anyway. A few seconds pass, and he stares as hard as he can-- the letters seem to form words, but he can't for the life of him figure out what they say, until even the words just dissolve into a mess of letters and figures and, no, no this isn't any better.]

They're still doing it. The letters, moving around. I can't make any sense of them. [And obviously this red-head has no trouble reading them, so that means it's all him. Again.]
promises_to_keep: (buh?)

[personal profile] promises_to_keep 2015-05-30 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Moving around? [He looks at the tablet, then looks at the kid, then looks at the tablet again. The letters are definitely stationary so far as he can see. He's heard of dyslexia, but he's never heard of anything like this before.] That's... different. Has that ever happened to you before?

[He has to admit he's a little curious now. There's definitely nothing weird going on with the letters, meaning it's the kid who's somehow out of whack.]
figureitout: (◐ and you'll be a man)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-30 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, moving around! Changing places! Switching rows! [He can't help the on-edge response, the words sharp and cutting more because of the situation than because of who he's talking to, or even Lea's particular question. He's not exactly the most polite guy even on the best of days (unless he wants to be, of course), and in a situation of high stress that freaks him out with the worst Vietnam possessed-by-nogitsune flashbacks, well. Maybe the rudeness is a little more understandable.]

I-- [He runs a hand through his hair, then down the side of his face.] Once. And it was followed by a fox spirit possessing me and killing people left and right and separating itself from me so I was in two bodies and it almost killed me, so you can see why I'm not exactly thrilled about this.
promises_to_keep: (excuse me water u doin?)

[personal profile] promises_to_keep 2015-05-30 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[The sharpness of the boy's tone doesn't faze Lea too much--he's been known to be a bit abrasive himself. He holds one hand up placatingly.]

Okay, okay, sorry for asking. I've never heard of such a thing before, is all, sheesh.

[This kid is plainly scared, though, and Lea feels a bit of a pang of sympathy for him. This whole place is a mindscrew, and after he hears the story, he can understand why it would upset him so much. Posession isn't something new to him, and even if he's never experienced it himself, he's seen what it can do. He sighs softly.]

What's your name, kid? [He ventures a thin smile, trying to at least be friendly.]</ small> I'm Lea. I haven't seen any fox spirits or anything like that, but... if you want, we can stick together for a bit. Two heads are better than one, right? This place is creepy enough without bein' all alone, in my opinion.

[I wish I hadn't heard about it, he thinks but doesn't say, biting back the panic, think logically, Stiles. Think. The nogitsune-- they defeated it, it's stuck in a jar it can't get out of and buried and there's no way it's here and has wormed its way into his head again. There's. No. Way.

So he swallows and nods to acknowledge Lea's introduction, offering his own in words that are halting still, but less panicked.]
Stiles. It's Stiles.

[And while working together with a guy he's just met doesn't sound like the pinnacle of sensible thinking, he's really out of other options here... and Lea doesn't make his "there's something about him that bugs me" senses go off, so.]

Okay. At least as long as- [he pauses, starting the sentence again] I need to get back to where I was, before- that. [A wave of his hand towards the morgue.] All my stuff was in there, and I'm not just gonna leave it there for someone to take! If they haven't been taken already.

[At least he seems a bit less panicked now. Lea rubs his chin in thought, then looks over his shoulder.]

Well, I sure wouldn't mind being indoors for a while. Do you know whereabouts you were? [He hefts his backpack.] I've still got some food, if, ah... [He makes kind of a vague gesture with one hand. He's not sure if dying and coming back this way makes you hungry. He figures he might as well share, though; pay it forward, right?]

[Ruto isn't far from Stiles; in fact, her door had been one of the ones he had knocked on. But, much as she might have wanted to, she couldn't do anything about it. While she's a fairly selfish person and doesn't like the idea of having to share shelter, she already learned the very hard way what happens if you get locked out, and she's decent enough that she wouldn't want a death like that weighing on her conscience.

She turns on her video feed when she sees the message on the network so she can respond, frowning.]
I thought it was a lie too! I mean, who would be stupid enough to lock all the doors in weather like this?
figureitout: (◐ this world is not meant for you)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-29 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably someone who wants a lot of people to die of frostbite.

[At this point, Stiles isn't even bothering to say something about the look of the face staring back at him from the message, though there's the slight widening of his eyes and then subsequent narrowing of them to indicate that if he wasn't stuck outside and faced with slowly freezing to death, he might actually be asking about her and what she is, why she looks like she does.

But not now. He draws the jacket better around himself, in the hopes it might actually do something. Spoilers: it doesn't.]
shellfishnature: (and all I want is more to set me free)

[personal profile] shellfishnature 2015-05-29 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I know a jerk like that, but he'll be in big trouble if he's here. [She certainly won't stand for Ganondorf messing up some other place, even if it's not a place she cares for one way or another. She has a duty as a Sage, so!

It doesn't occur to Ruto to explain herself, even though he's not the first person to be confused by her appearance. She doesn't need explaining, as far as she's concerned.]
The little thing is telling the truth though. I got stuck outside once too.
figureitout: (◐ when the night fades away)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-29 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I know a bunch of jerks like that. [...] I mean, not personally. [But seeing how there are currently an unknown number of assassins on the loose back home, and all of them want to collect the bounty on his friends' heads, he's equally sure they don't exactly care how their victims die.

... it's probably ironic he isn't even on the deadpool list.]

... And the night was nice and warm and you survived easily? [His face can be described as optimistically pessimistic. PLEASE TELL HIM IT WAS LIKE THAT, Y/Y??]
shellfishnature: (meet me beneath my balcony and say)

[personal profile] shellfishnature 2015-05-29 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ruto's fins fold down emphatically as she scoffs.] No, it was horrible! I mean, I survived the first time someone tried to freeze me to death, but I guess it's a lot colder here.

I would have been fine if all the doors weren't locked. [Meaning, it totally wasn't her fault that she disregarded the tablet's warning and got stuck outside and then died slowly.]
figureitout: (◐ running is a victory)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-29 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The first time? [A pause.] No, wait, forget I asked.

[He probably doesn't want to know, at least not while slowly freezing to death himself. Instead, he sighs out, turning to look at the door next to him-- locked, still, and staying that way. The next time it opens... well. He'd rather not think about that part.]

Yeah, just like I would be okay if I'd found a bulldozer and knocked down that door. [So not their fault here. :|;;] So... that's why you know it's not a lie. [Because you've already died once.]
shellfishnature: (no one but you could ever fill my night)

[personal profile] shellfishnature 2015-05-29 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That jerk I told you about! He tried once. [She did not forget you asked. Sorry, Stiles. She replies with energetic displeasure, and just a tinge of bitterness.] If this is his fault, he must have been practicing his evil curses.

[For a moment, Ruto breaks her direct gaze with the camera, glancing up and off to the side as if in thought.] I guess whoever did this got me that time. [She tries to look nonchalant, but the downward fold of her fins makes it obvious she's not so carefree about it.] They're still pretty bad at this, though! I mean, I came back.
figureitout: (◐they're trying to catch you)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-29 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, okay, so-- freezing to death, evil curses... I'm gonna go ahead and assume he's some kind of evil magician? Warlock? Doctor Doom? Darth Vader?

[Stiles, no, stop. But at least this is clearly distracting him from his impending demise, enough that he almost seems to be talking normally. Well, at least until she starts to talk about coming back-- and then he gets more serious, lips pressing together in a thin line. He's come back once... and incidentally, he froze that time, too.]

Yeah, you obviously did. Which brings me to the obvious: how? [Am I gonna come back, too? is what he doesn't ask.]
shellfishnature: (hoping that my words find you somewhere)

[personal profile] shellfishnature 2015-05-29 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ruto doesn't recognize any of those names, which is probably obvious from the confusion on her face as he rattles them off.] I don't know who they are, but he is an evil magician. He tried to take over our kingdom. [Kind of did for like seven years or something...

She glances up again, though this time she doesn't turn her head so conspicuously away from the camera.]
It was probably something weird. I woke up in this sack on a cold shelf! [Ruto, of course, has no knowledge of modern medical procedures and thus has no idea what a morgue is.] I couldn't talk for a week after I woke up, either! It has to have been some kind of magic.

[So basically Ruto has no idea how it happened.]
figureitout: (◐ the sun will be guiding)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-29 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh my god, you haven't seen Star Wars, either? Why is he cursed with people ignorant of the best movies ever made both here and back home??

Ahem. Right. Evil magician.]
Tried? So, what, you thwarted his evil plans?

[He may sound a little sarcastic there, but it's still an actual question. Sarcasm is just something that's a default with him.]

A sack... on-- [Wait, wait. Stiles blinks, obviously the words make more sense to him than experiencing it did to Ruto.] So you woke up in a morgue. In a body bag. ... Oh my god. [He. He may be claustrophobic. At least somewhat, after the MRI experience. So if that's what's going to happen to him, shit, he's screwed.]

And wait, what, you couldn't talk? Like you had no voice, or like you forgot how to talk? [He might have to focus on this for now, gather up as much information as he can, instead of thinking about the shelf and a bag around him and the cold that keeps making his teeth chatter.]

[At the sound of movement, Jemma means to make it inside before the newest of the resurrected makes it outside, but she's just a little slow. The necessary bundling up does that to the non-operations agent.

Holding her hands up at the sight of -- the boy? Young man? She can't quite tell. She means to show she intends no harm. If only she made it a few seconds earlier.

[He gives her his best "uh excuse you what part of this is alright" look before launching into a rapid-fire rant.]

Yeah, I know what's happened! I froze to death, woke up in a body bag in a morgue, and when I picked up my tablet, all the words are-- [Clearly, this is the part that is upsetting him the most- not the dying, not the sudden waking up, but the words; he swallows, looking at the tablet in his hand, and whatever he sees seems to do nothing to quell his panic.]

I can't read it. [It's hard to say it aloud, almost like stating it makes it more real. More threatening, and out of the corner of his eye, Stiles thinks he sees a figure, covered in bandages and with a mouth full of sharp teeth and a voice of gravel-- but when he turns to look, it's just snow.]
badgirlshenanigans: (sympathy central)

[personal profile] badgirlshenanigans 2015-05-31 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[In Jemma's world, things will eventually resort to all right, so when she says it, she usually means it will be.]

But you're alive?

[See? That's positive! Sure, she sounds uncertain about it now, but she's trying.]

May I see? Perhaps everything isn't quite back to tip-top condition?

[Like how she follows his gaze, only to see nothing.}

It's been rather traumatic for you.
figureitout: (◐ and disappear in the trees)

[personal profile] figureitout 2015-05-31 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm alive, because apparently most people who die here are brought back and I have no idea how. There was no kind of anchor to bring me back. [Anchor? Yeah, so about that, he may have frozen to death once before, entirely voluntarily that time, but they all had anchors then-- people with whom they had a connection to anchor them to the world and bring them back.

And her explanation (not back in tip-top condition, wow, no shit) is actually... well, preferable to his immediate thought that the same thing has happened as happened when he was brought back before- that a door is left open inside his mind that is causing this.]

So, you think it's just- some kind of malfunction? That whatever magic made me alive just didn't work as well as it should've and now I can't read because of that?

[Stiles frowns, rubs his chin with his hand. That... might not even be too far-fetched. He also ignores the part about this being traumatic; partly because, well, dying would be traumatic to anyone, and partly because it's not like he's the only one this has happened to, so they're all in the same boat here. A boat that's probably rapidly sinking, but the same boat regardless.]
badgirlshenanigans: (pleading)

[personal profile] badgirlshenanigans 2015-05-31 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
But you're alive. [For all the sarcasm covering worry, Simmons will focus on that and practical matters.] And you'll freeze to death a second time if we don't get you somewhere else. I don't think the morgue would help.

[Everything is said clearly and with patience. This is not the first time in her life she's had to deal with someone awakening to find things don't work like they should. This boy has speech, which is far beyond her previous experience.]

Whatever resuscitated you [She presumes it's science she doesn't yet understand rather than magic. She will always believe that.] may have brought you back to life, but your body, your mind has to deal with that trauma, and given time, you'll see improvement. You can walk, speak, and understand your current problem. I've seen those brought back with far less.
