Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW... Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.
TWO: CABIN FEVER Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.
Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.
FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?
The first time? [A pause.] No, wait, forget I asked.
[He probably doesn't want to know, at least not while slowly freezing to death himself. Instead, he sighs out, turning to look at the door next to him-- locked, still, and staying that way. The next time it opens... well. He'd rather not think about that part.]
Yeah, just like I would be okay if I'd found a bulldozer and knocked down that door. [So not their fault here. :|;;] So... that's why you know it's not a lie. [Because you've already died once.]
That jerk I told you about! He tried once. [She did not forget you asked. Sorry, Stiles. She replies with energetic displeasure, and just a tinge of bitterness.] If this is his fault, he must have been practicing his evil curses.
[For a moment, Ruto breaks her direct gaze with the camera, glancing up and off to the side as if in thought.] I guess whoever did this got me that time. [She tries to look nonchalant, but the downward fold of her fins makes it obvious she's not so carefree about it.] They're still pretty bad at this, though! I mean, I came back.
Wow, okay, so-- freezing to death, evil curses... I'm gonna go ahead and assume he's some kind of evil magician? Warlock? Doctor Doom? Darth Vader?
[Stiles, no, stop. But at least this is clearly distracting him from his impending demise, enough that he almost seems to be talking normally. Well, at least until she starts to talk about coming back-- and then he gets more serious, lips pressing together in a thin line. He's come back once... and incidentally, he froze that time, too.]
Yeah, you obviously did. Which brings me to the obvious: how? [Am I gonna come back, too? is what he doesn't ask.]
[Ruto doesn't recognize any of those names, which is probably obvious from the confusion on her face as he rattles them off.] I don't know who they are, but he is an evil magician. He tried to take over our kingdom. [Kind of did for like seven years or something...
She glances up again, though this time she doesn't turn her head so conspicuously away from the camera.] It was probably something weird. I woke up in this sack on a cold shelf! [Ruto, of course, has no knowledge of modern medical procedures and thus has no idea what a morgue is.] I couldn't talk for a week after I woke up, either! It has to have been some kind of magic.
[Oh my god, you haven't seen Star Wars, either? Why is he cursed with people ignorant of the best movies ever made both here and back home??
Ahem. Right. Evil magician.] Tried? So, what, you thwarted his evil plans?
[He may sound a little sarcastic there, but it's still an actual question. Sarcasm is just something that's a default with him.]
A sack... on-- [Wait, wait. Stiles blinks, obviously the words make more sense to him than experiencing it did to Ruto.] So you woke up in a morgue. In a body bag. ... Oh my god. [He. He may be claustrophobic. At least somewhat, after the MRI experience. So if that's what's going to happen to him, shit, he's screwed.]
And wait, what, you couldn't talk? Like you had no voice, or like you forgot how to talk? [He might have to focus on this for now, gather up as much information as he can, instead of thinking about the shelf and a bag around him and the cold that keeps making his teeth chatter.]
Of course I did! Or, we did. I had some help. [A lot of help. She probably couldn't have done it on her own. But shh.
She's surprised as Stiles absorbs her words and apparently finds meaning in them that is lost on Ruto. She squints and tilts her head, suspicious of the information he somehow has.] In a what? I told you it was a sack on a cold shelf.
[She sniffs with some disdain.] I had no voice. Like something took it away! Or someone messed up healing me. [So incredibly rude!]
What happened to that guy? I mean, if you think this could be him... [Then you clearly didn't go for the sensible choice and Kill Him Dead.]
A body bag. In a morgue. When you die, your body gets put in a bag and they store it in a place called the morgue where they figure out why you died by- cutting you open, basically. And you have to be kept in a low temperature so the body doesn't start to rot. [Nice, isn't it? HE THINKS SO TOO. Not. Maybe normally he wouldn't even bat an eyelash, but when this is all his potential future...]
So you got brought back, but without a voice at first? [He makes a face.] I'd ask "how does that even happen", but dying and getting brought back doesn't exactly happen that much, either. [Except for half the people of Beacon Hills, apparently, for fuck's sake.]
The man I'm going to marry defeated him! [Ruto sounds very proud, at least for a few seconds.] ...but we thought we got rid of him before and he came back. So. [Not really a guarantee.
She listens to his explanation with interest and, as he goes on, disgust.] That's terrible! If somebody cut me open I'm going to make them sorry! [It didn't feel like she'd been cut open, but you never know, okay.
A huff.] I've never lost my voice like that before. I still think it was magic.
O-kay, good for you! ... and bad for you. [He vaguely wonders for a moment why all of this sounds somewhat familiar, but... no, he's probably imagining it.
And yeah, disgust sounds about right. Stiles winces, in a way that shows he'd much rather think just about anything at all instead of being cut open... but he can't really help but add, anyway:] If there's no weird scars on you, then I'm pretty sure that means "no" on the cutting part.
[He hasn't exactly lost his voice, either, but he has lost his ability to read once before... and magic was definitely the cause for that one.] ... Probably. They have some kind of magic here... and it's not any kind of good magic. [At least so he figures. He shivers, and Ruto can see him pick up the tablet and start to walk, the background in the response as he talks shifting (from snow to... more snow, exciting)-- keeping moving might delay the inevitable, at least for a while. If he keeps moving, he won't freeze in place. Not yet.]
