Network Prompts
ONE: LIKE A MOTH TO A FLAME
Something about the light of the tablet just seems so alluring. You feel compelled to it, checking the network every free moment, and getting agitated when you can't; you need to talk to people, you need to talk to them now, and hopefully they'll actually respond. Maybe others are having similar attachment problems...

Only one way to find out.

TWO: CAN WE GET ANOTHER LIFELINE OR TWO?
So that's it. You're stuck. Maybe there's some kind of a coded message you simply can't decipher. Maybe it's as simple as something's blocking your way and you've got a few tools scattered around, but you can't figure out how to use them to solve whatever puzzle is keeping you from progressing. Or maybe it's something else entirely. Either way, you have no idea how to get around it.

Luckily for you, there's a whole network full of helpful - or maybe unhelpful - souls. Perhaps it's time to ask for some assistance? Someone else is bound to have some kind of insight.

Action Prompts
THREE: SWING BATTER BATTER SWING BATTER BATTER SWING
The toy store is nice and cozy, even though sometimes it feels like the dolls are watching you. So you've stayed here for just a little too long, and you're starting to notice... things. But that's just your imagination, right? They can't actually be watching you. They can't actually be moving, either. That door opening? Those footsteps? Maybe they're just a figment of your imagination.

...or maybe they're not. Maybe you should take a baseball bat to whoever that is and find out.

FOUR: A FATAL FUGUE
Sunset is fast approaching. You can see some buildings up ahead - if you hurry, you'll make it indoors just in time. But wait! Do you hear someone calling for help and feel compelled to investigate? Do you feel a debilitating headache coming on? Or do you suddenly get a really, really bad feeling about actually walking through those doors?

If you don't snap out of it, it could be deadly. Luckily, there's someone already in that house that might be able to drag you to safety, with or without your approval.

stolenparts: (How charming.)

A camp? Isn't it dangerous to stay in one place for too long? How many nights have you been here?

[Still, he actually starts to smile. He reaches for the backpack he'd dropped by the door when he came inside and, throwing it over one shoulder, shoves his hands in his pockets. For lack of anything else to do, he goes to follow Cullen back toward that aforementioned camp.]

Have you found anything that could be used as a bandage? I hate to ask for something so valuable...but I'd be happy to trade, if you do.

[Cullen has to smile at the concern. Being a military strategist in this place has been helpful, though.]

I've been wandering, actually, mapping out the territory around this place and coming back at night, mainly. But today the weather has been dreadful, I did stay in. Maybe it's why I'm a little...fretful.

[The 'camp' is only small - two of the comfiest chairs (they look more like big bags full of tiny balls, that move around you when you sit) around pushed together around Cullen's plans for dinner that night, plus two sheets and two blankets. If only he could make a fire.]

We can tear a long stripe out of one of the sheets, easy. It's no problem - hey, what's your name? I'm Cullen.
stolenparts: (It doesn't hurt at all.)

I see...

[He observes the scene with an air somewhat close to indifference. At least he seems a bit lighter than he did before. Not as...ghoulish. Well, there's still the gaping hole in his face, of course.]

Thank you. I was wearing bandages for this [he gestures toward his face] when I arrived, but they'd grown frozen and brittle because of the cold, I had to get rid of them. I didn't want to tear into any clothes I found, they're so valuable.

[His wandering gaze finally settles back on Cullen when he asks for a name. The boy almost looks like he has no idea how to respond to the question. As if he's never been asked what his name is, before.]

Some people call me Dio.

It's nice to meet you, Dio. [Now that Cullen is sure - almost sure - that Dio isn't actually any kind of monster, just a kid, his overprotective nature is showing.]

Yeah, I'm lucky that - back where I live, it's pretty cold, so I've got all these protective layers already. Let me - [Grabbing one of the sheets, he tears a stripe out of it, long and fairly thin. The fabric is all frayed now, and Cullen can only hope it's clean enough. When he's done, he takes a step towards Dio.] Do you want to do it yourself? I don't mind helping.

[But he knows some people are not comfortable with being touched. He isn't, at the best of time.]
stolenparts: (Make sure to get my good side.)

[personal profile] stolenparts 2016-02-24 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
It's alright. I'm used to having to do this by myself.

[If it didn't feel so excessive, Dio would thank him again. He'll just count the first nicety as a blanket one. Taking the cloth, Dio sighs to himself as he begins to cover the wound.]

I've never been in a climate like this. Normally, I don't need to keep this bandaged, but I'm not too sure how the constant exposure to cold would affect it. [He pauses.] And I know it's not exactly pleasant to look at. If we're going to be spending the night together, I don't want to make you uncomfortable.

[Another pause. This time, it's mostly because he's focusing on making a clean loop around his head.]

How long ago did you arrive in Norfinbury?

[Cullen shakes his head at Dio's mention of the wound and how it looks. He's seen worse - seen men and women turn into abominations when all he wanted was to protect them. The thought makes him grimace, and he shifts his feet, going to sit on one of the ball-filled-bags that serve as chairs. It's loud as he sinks into it.]

I don't mind your wound, Dio. I'm a soldier; I'm used to it. [As he thinks about it, though, curiosity takes over him.] But - how did you get it? You don't have to tell me, of course.

I've been here for a few weeks now. I'm personally used to the climate, but I'm thankful for my coat and armor - I barely feel the cold in it. What about you? How long have you been here? I haven't seen you before.
stolenparts: (I've come to help.)

[For a moment, Dio's expression becomes sad. Not because of the question. He doesn't mind answering it--but because he thinks about the little girl, his young mistress, who wasn't used to it. When he'd tried to help her, and she'd ran away from him in fear, it had hurt him more than he likes to admit.

After an even longer silence, he opts to answer the second question, first.]

I've only been here for a handful of days. I woke up in a house in the ice tunnels, so this is only one of the first buildings I've seen. I'm trying to learn quickly.

[He goes silent for another moment to finish tying off the makeshift bandage before he puts his hands back in his coat pockets, cautiously lowers himself into one of the other "chairs", and focuses his attention on Cullen once more.]

I don't mind sharing. My master took my eye when I was younger--he was a scientist. [As if that somehow explains random, abstract cruelty.] He gave me the burn more recently, but it doesn't matter anymore.

[Cullen's hands clench into fists, the leather of his gloves creaking as Dio talks about his injury. Such violence, on a child looking this young, is making Cullen's blood boil. There is nothing Dio possibly have done to deserve such treatment. No one deserves such treatment.

Cullen doesn't believe in torture, be it physical or emotional. He recognises its uses, on rare occasions, but he can tell - this is not it. This is something else entirely.]

It doesn't matter? How can you say that? You must be in unbearable amounts of pain!

[He doesn't mean for the words to come out as violently as they do - he doesn't want to frighten Dio, but he's not always good at controlling his temper. He's just a child!]
