Network Prompts
ONE: LIKE A MOTH TO A FLAME Something about the light of the tablet just seems so alluring. You feel compelled to it, checking the network every free moment, and getting agitated when you can't; you need to talk to people, you need to talk to them now, and hopefully they'll actually respond. Maybe others are having similar attachment problems...
Only one way to find out.
TWO: CAN WE GET ANOTHER LIFELINE OR TWO? So that's it. You're stuck. Maybe there's some kind of a coded message you simply can't decipher. Maybe it's as simple as something's blocking your way and you've got a few tools scattered around, but you can't figure out how to use them to solve whatever puzzle is keeping you from progressing. Or maybe it's something else entirely. Either way, you have no idea how to get around it.
Luckily for you, there's a whole network full of helpful - or maybe unhelpful - souls. Perhaps it's time to ask for some assistance? Someone else is bound to have some kind of insight.
Action Prompts
THREE: SWING BATTER BATTER SWING BATTER BATTER SWING The toy store is nice and cozy, even though sometimes it feels like the dolls are watching you. So you've stayed here for just a little too long, and you're starting to notice... things. But that's just your imagination, right? They can't actually be watching you. They can't actually be moving, either. That door opening? Those footsteps? Maybe they're just a figment of your imagination.
...or maybe they're not. Maybe you should take a baseball bat to whoever that is and find out.
FOUR: A FATAL FUGUE Sunset is fast approaching. You can see some buildings up ahead - if you hurry, you'll make it indoors just in time. But wait! Do you hear someone calling for help and feel compelled to investigate? Do you feel a debilitating headache coming on? Or do you suddenly get a really, really bad feeling about actually walking through those doors?
If you don't snap out of it, it could be deadly. Luckily, there's someone already in that house that might be able to drag you to safety, with or without your approval.
If they're injured or trapped in some way, it may take more manpower than just one person can handle. O-or if you want to use me as a waypoint of sorts, because of the visibility...
[She's grasping for straws, something that she's well aware of, but the idea of abandoning the taller wisp of a woman to the cold while she runs off doesn't strike her as the right thing to do. Even if they both ended up stuck out here in the process... she could tell herself that she tried. If it came to it, maybe shutting herself down would save enough of her core processes to make it through the night.
It's a big "maybe", though.]
Please, I don't want to leave either of you behind.
[It's a futile outburst. She can't keep up with the other woman, who is lost to the snowfall quicker than Luna would like. What does she do? No direct approval or disapproval leaves her a little lost. She wants to stay put, wants to wait, even though the structural integrity of her body screams at the lowering temperature.
But the first thing Lys had asked of her was to turn around and keep going. She was asking for her own trust and safety. Wouldn't she want the same thing, if their positions were reversed?
It pains her to back away. But with a large amount of effort, she redirects herself, shoving back through the snow towards the house that had just been visible before their detour. The handle still gives under her palm, a quiet relief as she shoves the door open and makes her way inside.
Her attention doesn't leave the door for the next handful of minutes. If she had the supplies to work with, maybe she could create a flag or some other type of marker to stick out into the drifts. But to get it done in time and return, when there was already so little time left, is quickly deemed impossible.
So for now, she waits. Either the door will open, or she'll have to hear the sound of fists against wood when the locks finally activate.]
A scant minute before curfew begins, the door opens wide to allow a stranger to stumble through, out of breath and shivering. Lys follows suit maybe thirty seconds later. The first thing she does is shut the door behind her; the locks engage with quiet, mechanical finality.
The second thing she does is flash Luna a grateful smile.]
Oh, um, i-it was nothing! I'm just happy you both made it back.
[The response is flustered, but Luna can't hide a relieved smile in return. So there was really someone out there. The effort was worth it, and the trust she'd had to put in Lys worked after all. All for the better.]
Are you okay? Let me take a look, both of you. [She's properly focusing on the stranger first, examining exposed skin and urging him to show her his extremities for frostbite.]
[He complies willingly enough, too relieved to have escaped a nasty death via exposure to argue the point.
Lys, on the other hand, hangs back in the periphery of Luna's vision, going quiet and still in the hope of being forgotten about. Her dark blue outfit helps her blend in with the lengthening shadows, but she would have to walk past Luna to get to a hiding spot of any actual merit.]
[It takes very little time to finish her impromptu examination, letting the man wander off to find a corner to rest. When Lys isn't immediately in her line of sight, the redhead grows alarmed, taking a long moment to actually see her sulking back into the shadows.]
[Her expression falls awkwardly at the statement, only because she doesn't feel she can properly reply without compromising herself. Hopefully, it would come across as a shy fumbling and nothing else. She wouldn't be able to talk about it in depth even if Lys did bother to pry.]
I'd like to check you before I do, if I could. I know we're limited on supplies, but I still have some medical knowledge and licensing.
[At first, Lys makes no indication that she's going to comply. She doesn't want Luna to waste time on her.....and yet, what right does someone like Lys have to say no?]
If that's what you want, it's fine.
[She steps forward at last with passive reluctance, still smiling but averting her bright blue eyes from Luna's own.]
She's trusting, not stupid. She can see that reluctance as plain as day. Coupling it with how backhandedly dismissive the other woman's response was, Luna can't help but bristle.]
...If it makes you uncomfortable, you should just say so.
[Her eyebrows quirk up again, openly confused by that tone. Just say so? What did that matter, at all? There's a moment of awkward silence as Lys rubs the back of her neck and searches for some kind of answer.]
Ah....I'm sorry.
[And she is sorry, for causing that unhappy reaction. It's not what she intended, or even thought would happen.]
I just don't think you should waste your time. I'm fine! But.....if that's what you want, it really is okay. Because it's you.
...Why would I be wasting my time? We're locked in a building for the whole night. You were just out in that awful weather with so little to protect you, exerting yourself with another person.
[She's pretty sure she hasn't missed something somewhere, but Lys' responses still baffle her.]
If... you think you're okay, I can leave you alone. But please, don't say something like this is a waste. That's cruel.
It's just what I said, isn't it? Saying that it's a waste of time to care for someone else... even if you have good intentions saying that, it still comes across as rather, um... harsh. People show care because they want someone else to be okay and feel their best, and when that gets slapped away... well, that's just like throwing those feelings away, I think.
[It's the best way she can put it. She can tell Lys isn't attempting to be mean, at least. But it still strikes her as very sad.]
I'm sorry, I don't mean to tell you what to do or how to feel, or anything like that. But... maybe watch what you say to other people, okay?
[She doesn't, at all. But she thinks she does, because there are only so many conclusions that exist to be reached when one's self-perception has been twisted and broken.
She just needs to be more careful with what she says. Hurting someone's feelings isn't a good thing to do, regardless of being unable to apply Luna's words to herself.
Lys steps closer to freely offer her hands. The fingertips alone have very mild frostbite.]
....I'm sorry. I guess I didn't.....ah, there's a lot of things I never learned, growing up. I don't mean that as an excuse, just.....I'll try to be better from now on.
O-oh, no, it's okay. Just know that I do care about whether you're healthy or not. That's very important to me. Just like it matters for the stranger you rescued, or for anyone else that might need the help. I wouldn't ask you otherwise, because to me, that's the best use of my time. Does that make sense?
[Her smile is gentle, even as her attention drifting down to Lys' hands. Her touch stays delicate, brows knitting briefly at what she sees.]
Anyway - it doesn't look horrible, but you do have some frostbite. If we can find some warm water, that might help best... for now, try to wrap your fingertips with a piece of cloth and tuck them under your arms. That should help them regain bloodflow.
[She smiles and nods to show that she understands......the medical advice, at least. That's familiar and safe territory. Nothing she doesn't already know, but if it helps Luna to feel better and stop thinking about Lys' mistake, then that's what matters.]
Mm, okay!
[Obedient now, Lys steps out of her boots and socks to show Luna her toes, one foot at a time. No frostbite there, at least.]
Maybe we'll find stuff to start a fire with, later.

You won't! If there's anyone to find, I'll bring them back. I grew up in a place like this, after all.
[Something strange flickers in her expression. Something sad. Then it's gone. Or did you just imagine that it ever existed to begin with?]
I won't get lost!
[Lys flashes a thumbs-up. Without waiting for another protest, she turns around to stride off in the direction that the faint voice had come from.]

I'm all right.

You should rest, though.
