Network Prompts
ONE: A FRUITFUL ENDEAVOR You arrive at the grocery store downtown in the early evening. There's still plenty of food, but of course the bread is no longer warm and most of the best selection has been taken. What's left of the produce is pretty obscure; what the heck is a lychee, or a starfruit, or a pluot? Maybe the skin of this one isn't meant to be eaten? What about the leaves? And as for the bread, what on earth is pumpernickel anyway? To say the least of what this must look like if you're not from Earth or some place similar.
Maybe someone more familiar with obscure Earth foods will have some answers for you!
TWO: YOU'RE BREAKING UP There's a bit of a malfunction on the network. Text posts seem to be fine, if received at a bit of a delay, but there's definitely some trouble with the audio and video functions. There's noticeable static interference in most of the voice and video posts, obscuring both audio and video feeds alike. Sometimes, the shape of a person can almost be seen in the static of the videos--or maybe it's the shape of a monster.
Regardless, try to be polite to those you're talking with. It isn't their fault you can't hear parts of what they're saying. (Please write out all of your character's dialogue if you're using this prompt so that we can get a better feel for their voice! Simply indicate in the narration what cannot be heard as a result of the static, or leave it up to your thread partner to decide what does not come through.)
Action Prompts
THREE: COLD HANDS, WARM HEART Either you arrived in Norfinbury bare-handed or became that way somewhere along the road, but your hands are freezing. You worry you may be prone to frostbite sometime soon, but you haven’t had any luck finding any sort of fabric that you could turn into some makeshift protection. Your travel partner is in a similar situation, as well. That’s when you stop in a building for the night and find it: one perfect pair of fluffy mittens. But there’s only one pair. Will you give them to your companion? Keep them for yourself? Hide them? Or try to make a compromise?
If all else fails, there’s always rock, paper, scissors.
FOUR: ONE LUMP OR TWO? There's been a buzz on the network lately about a box full of tea packets having been discovered. Maybe you're a tea person or maybe you aren't, but for the sake of being able to drink something warm (and something unexpired for that matter), you've dragged yourself over to a rendezvous point for one purpose and one purpose alone: a tea party. Of course, there is always the danger of monsters, particularly when you're around too many people...but maybe it's worth it for a hot drink, right?

[ Mittens. Adorable.
It had taken Jessica a while to spot them wedged between the cushions of the sofa, having lingered by a window next to the front door to keep an eye out for stragglers until her tablet struck 8PM. By then, she'd managed to stamp most the ice caked to her boots onto the linoleum, and get some of the feeling back into her asscheeks in the process. A puddle follows her into the living room in streaks.
Her eyes linger on their discovery a moment, appraising, before she stuffs her hands in her pockets and turns away to walk further into the house. ]
Yellow's not my color. [ AKA take them before she rethinks deciding to tough it out in the fingerless gloves she was already wearing when she got here. They'd been enough back in New York, but not here. If her life wasn't enough of a joke already with her extremities intact... ]
I'm gonna go sit on my hands. [ Jessica can always be counted on to cede with the utmost grace. ]

I've a full ensemble and generosity won't keep you alive. Or warm.
[ Not in temperatures capable of frostbite, but the weather wasn't his main concern. Actually, it was what she was so interested in outside. ]
Why are you looking for them? Don't we all get the warning?
[ A rather heartless sentiment on his part. ]

So use them for a tea cozy. [ Jessica has earned herself unlimited free shots at the English as far as she's concerned. ] Trust me when I say you need them more than I do.
[ Her voice had raised slightly in annoyance when she spoke, but the spike in her unpleasantness is short-lived. She looks a little less hostile, anyway, after settling behind the sofa, both hands gripping its back to support her slouching upper body. ]
Morbid curiosity. [ Because she is not about to invite more of his criticism regarding her "generosity". ]

Yellow's not her colour...? Huh? ...Oh. Yellow gloves, he realises, as he tears his eyes away from her long enough to see what she's talking about. Same kinda garish yellow as his obnoxious looking hoodie.
Just act casual, yo. Jesus. ]
Uh. Think it’d be smarter if you wear the gloves, yo.
AHHHH ❤❤❤❤❤ petition to find jesse some real friends though
And they say chivalry's dead. [ She raises both hands, grudging him the effort, to show that they are already good and covered, at least to the knuckle. Jesse is free to point this out at his own risk. ] I'm fine. Take the damn gloves.
[ While she's normally about this charming, it really, really doesn't help that Jess is currently sans-liquor. She had polished off her handy-dandy flask of whiskey her first day here, figuring that rationing her booze would only make things marginally less shitty. She's sweated out the worst of it, but there isn't much around to distract her from what withdrawal symptoms remain.
Jessica shifts in place impatiently and sighs. The sound is practically a scoff. Someone less rough around the edges might have segued the conversation elsewhere, but all Jesse gets from her is glowering silence.
It's gonna be a long night. ]
