ONE: WAKEY WAKEY You're drawn out of your slumber when your tablet emits an earsplitting SCREECH. No amount of shaking it or hitting it will get it to shut up for five whole minutes, but at the very end it cuts itself off what sounds like a piercing scream. Well, that was weird. Maybe you should check in on the network - someone might have an idea of what that was. Or maybe they'll be just as lost as you are. At least you can all be confused together...
TWO: DON'T LET THE BEDBUGS BITE... It's past curfew, and you've been locked in for the night. But for some reason, you just can't manage to get to sleep. Nightmares giving you grief? General insomnia problems? Well, at least you've got the network to keep you company. Maybe you can get someone to tell you a bedtime story.

Among the shelves of junk food (just as well-stocked as you would expect from any normal store) you'll find one - or more! - other people there with you. Here's hoping you're not both after the same box of Frosted Toaster Pastries, because things could get ugly fast. Don't linger too long, either; at 7PM, you'll be compelled to leave whether you want to or not and will only have about an hour to find somewhere to take shelter...
FOUR: RUN RUN RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN It's late. It's cold. There's a bunch of snow around you and you can sort of make out vague shapes in the distance that might be buildings, but in these conditions it's hard to tell. Regardless of what they are, though, you're going to want to hustle - if it hits 8PM and you're still outside, you're not going to make it through the night. Perhaps that person up ahead can help you? Or - if you're already safe and sound - maybe you should head outside to get that poor soul struggling outside in to shelter before they freeze. Good luck!
[ The whole issue of having magic in Thedas is incredibly complex, but there are few who would outright state that magic is what they're good at. Not unless they were one of the rebel mages who finally felt like they had a voice that couldn't be silenced. ]
It is, in a way. I don't mind scavenging with my own two hands, but where I'm from, being cut off from magic is losing a part of yourself. You can no longer dream, and you lose all emotions. You can remember your past, but hobbies you had, events that made you happy? You can't remember why they were, because you can't attach an emotion to it that no longer exists.
[ She realizes how she made that sound like her situation, and she clarifies now. ]
Not here, thankfully. I have no magic now, but the rest didn't come along with it. Back home, losing your magic is done by the Rite of Tranquility. It's supposed to be done to those who are thought too dangerous to be allowed to use their magic. Of course, there was talk of abuses and those being forced into Tranquility to silence them. I don't understand how I can lose my magic and not my emotions, but I'm grateful to at least still have the latter.
I suppose so. The Tranquils I've spoken to have said they're content as they are, but that's not surprising, since they don't know how they felt before. But here, they would have a very practical view on things.
If one of them ever shows up, you ought to ask them their thoughts on the whole thing.
I couldn't do it, not even if I had nothing to compare it to. Surely there'd be some inkling in there somewhere. If you bothered to think about it hard enough.
I think the Rite is very traumatic. Tranquils say they don't remember it, but to cut off a person like that... to sever them from magic and their emotions, their dreams and very creativity, it has to be.

It's got a lot going against it right now, but those are the big things, like war, assassination plots, and evil stirring. There are good things too. People who just want to live their lives and be happy. It seems we only grab moments of happiness now, but hopefully that can change. It's a process, but things are changing, and old hurts are being healed.
We just got out of a war. Quite a few people died. Particularly young people, since the final battle happened to take place at a school. [ his school, though you'll note the oddly deadpan tone he's got now. Detached, really. ] But generally, everyone's moving on, I suppose, now that they don't have to worry about someone trying to take them out because they aren't from a pureblood family.
I do believe it's one of those universal things, if you've come across it before. [ a soft huff of a sigh. ] Even here, I'm sure. Despite there being a distinct lack of people.
Perhaps we'll find a book, and it'll inform us that that's precisely what happened before all of this. Though I certainly hope not.
