The long of short of it here is that Nathan likes Tifa. He trusts her, too. She reminds him a lot of Curtis, in a way. Generally not willing to put up with his bullshit but he just gets used to it, realizes it's not malicious, and just gradually accepts his friendship for the bizarre and frustrating thing that it is. But Tifa's also hot so that's a plus. And she can deck the shit out of him, which makes him think of Kelly, so, well, that's a plus too, depending on how you look at it.

She's been there for him at his lowest points--and he'd like to just pretend that none of the things they've talked about have happened, but if he's being honest it's just a relief that someone has his back. Someone cares about him enough to defend him when other people write him off as a complete troublemaker with no real redeeming qualities. Why he refuses to outwardly show these qualities more often is a mystery, but as long as he has someone who knows, he feels a bit better about himself.

He'd be hard pressed to say it in so many words, but he's thankful to have her has a friend for as long as he's here in Norfinbury. He really would be devastated to lose her.

Okay so Nathan isn't really sure what to think of Alfie yet. He seems like a pretty serious guy, which doesn't suit him very much. I mean, Nathan is basically never serious. But aside from that, Alfie's already one of Nathan's favorite people to talk to here because he actually listened to him when he was voicing his opinions on Steve (which, in his mind, were completely relevant and not at all written crudely or offensive).

Nathan isn't really a great person for showing respect, but Alfie probably has whatever Nathan-equivalent there is to it.

Zach is basically the only other person here who has a sense of humor. Well, him and House, but House is old and still also an uppity asshole. He can relate a bit better to Zach since they're around the same age. It's hilarious that the two of them still enjoy talking to each other since their conversations are just guaranteed to be riddled with insults. But they can take it and dish it, and they kind of both get that it's not really anything meant to be serious.

Nathan kind of feels that Zach's the sort of guy that he can just start talking to out of nowhere and everything will just pick up where they left off, which is comforting.
