Network Prompts
ONE: YOUR COOPERATION IS APPRECIATED
When you wake up, you find that a new application has been downloaded to your tablet. It's titled "SURVEY" and is exactly what it claims to be--although there's no explanation to why it's appeared or what it is for other than the note that claims the survey is not opt-out and that your cooperation is appreciated. And more troubling, the questions become more sinister the farther in you answer. Such questions as, "on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your stay?" and "have your needs been met in a timely manner?" become more akin to, "if you had to chose between the two, would you eat your hands or your feet to stave off the hunger?" and "are you sure you are not the last one still alive?"

Perhaps someone on the Network would like to discuss what this could mean--and if there are any consequences behind finishing or refusing to take the survey.

TWO: NOT SO HELPFUL AVATARS
Every tablet has the option for a customizable avatar that will talk to you and keep your tablet in order. Maybe you set it up, maybe you never checked it. Either way, it keeps popping up unrequested and being sort of... Odd. Flickering, talking in strange, mechanical voices, offering advice that's unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst... Maybe it's even telling the entire network some things you've been doing you'd rather everyone didn't know.

Time to call tech support. Unfortunately, the best option is other people on the network. Good luck.

Action Prompts
THREE: SPIDERS IN THE WALLS
Somehow you or your travel companion injured themselves. A quick call to the admin fixed this, but now you can't help but be gripped with the burning curiosity of where the helpful spiders she deployed have gone. You saw them scramble toward the vents, but by the time paralysis wore off they'd completely disappeared. Only now you can't stop thinking about them. Where do they go to? How can they be trapped or followed? You swear you hear little mechanical pattering inside the walls. Maybe you can find some sort of tool to help you break into a vent around the house. Or maybe your companion can convince you to rest before you hurt yourself.

FOUR: SCHOOL DAYS
You've ended up in the elementary school. Maybe you're grabbing more food, maybe you're exploring. Either way, this place is creepy; the atmosphere is the sort that gets the hair on the back of your neck rising (potentially metaphorically, if you don't have hair or a neck). It's not long before strange things start happening. The sound of running and screaming children, doors slamming in far off or nearby hallways, pianos playing... What's going on? It's hard to tell what's really happening from what isn't happening. Maybe someone who's also exploring has some idea.

scruffy_mcjackass: (let me speak at you)

[Dustin is nonplussed, and even less amused by this ultimatum. He starts working away at the outlet with the back of his hammer.]

I just saved your life.

Thanks. Still waitin' for that please.

[She can probably out-stubborn you, Dustin. You're not paying her.]
scruffy_mcjackass: (skeptic)

[fucking, ]

How about-- [Voice strained with a combination of irritation and effort, Dustin successfully pops off the cover of the power outlet. It clatters off his lap and onto the floor, exposing the inner wall past the metal. Or what's left of it.] --I shine a laser pointer in here and dangle some catnip in front of your nose?

[This is an unimpressed silence, Dustin. She is highly unimpressed and still not getting down to help you. In fact, she's just going to pull off her pack and start going through her supplies. There's a compact mirror in there to help with seeing at any odd angles, but she's not going to mention that's what she's pulling out. Instead, there's a brush, which she uses to start grooming her tail.

Tail maintenance is more important than things in the wall, clearly. Since she's just such a cat.]

scruffy_mcjackass: (Don't try anything funny)

[personal profile] scruffy_mcjackass 2016-06-19 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[You know what, Dustin is fine with this. Completely fine. Didn't need this cat's help anyway, never did. He ignores her, working still with the power outlet--it's gutted but still has the metal housing for the plugs themselves, held into the rest of the metal frame, and shining the flash from his bulky phone into the inky darkness produces nothing of use. Except for, naturally, phantom flickers of something moving rapidly past, little glimmers of metal...he's got to get in there. He's so fucking frustrated that he can't get in there.]

[With a feral snarl, Dustin turns the back of the hammer on the metal frame, at first trying to gradually lever it out, then rapidly devolving into putting his whole weight in. The metal groans. Or is that the hammer itself? The hammer's head looks like it might be splintering off from the wooden handle at the joint, the weakest point, but Dustin is oblivious with his shoulder against the wall and staring furiously at the collapsed doorway ahead.]

[Humans. Why are humans so stupid sometimes? Sawyer looks over at Dustin again, sees that he's about to break a useful tool, and has to speak up.]

You'd rather break your hammer than say please?
scruffy_mcjackass: (!?!?!)

[personal profile] scruffy_mcjackass 2016-06-19 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Dustin only just misses a beat to stop and stare at the hammer and note the damage. But drunk with this unnatural frustrated determination as he is, this only makes him angrier.]

Shitty fucking tools not doing their fucking jobs! [He hurls the hammer at the opposite wall where it hits, indenting it cleanly, bounces and skitters along the floor to die in the corner. With that out of the way, Dustin's ire immediately turns to Sawyer.] And what're you going to do about it, huh? Stick your claws in the sockets? Might save me some fucking trouble, useless, useless--

[And then the sound of skittering steals his attention again. Dustin pauses for just a moment before he starts frantically tearing off the heavy cloth wrapped around his left hand, exposing the metal prosthetic underneath. He really ought to find something insulated in case there's some rogue wires hanging out in the darkness. He doesn't bother. Dustin rams his hand in there, gripping the metal, wraps his fleshy hand around the back and presses his foot to the wall underneath for added leverage, and starts pulling manually.]

[There is something very unpleasant about the glimmer in his widened eyes as he stares down that wall.]
shedances: (scared)

[personal profile] shedances 2016-06-19 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
[His ire may need to be directed under the bed, because that's where Sawyer is now. She startles at the hammer striking the wall and abandons her pack and brush when she gets to somewhere safer. Her brows furrow when she sees him reveal a mechanical hand. Oh, wonderful. Shes' somehow landed herself with an insane person with a weapon attached to his body.

Sawyer ventures out of her hiding spot once she's sure he's distracted again and grabs her pack, putting her brush away, shoving the compact mirror down further. The cat puts her pack back on and slinks over to the discarded hammer, picking that up and holding it. She doesn't have any other weapons apart from her teeth and claws, and she's not sure if that will be enough if this crazy person comes after her when he can't get into the wall.

She does notice a vent on the floor over here, though. After a surreptitious glance at Dustin she crouches down beside that and uses the hammer to pry it up. It's not the wall, but she can probably at least get her head in there to look and see if there's anything to be seen.]
scruffy_mcjackass: (won't stop)

[personal profile] scruffy_mcjackass 2016-06-19 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[By this point Dustin's nearly forgotten that Sawyer exists, which is odd, because if he noticed that she stole his hammer then he'd be pissed for different reasons. This whole thing is a bit odd. Not that Dustin notices, mind. He just wants to get in that wall. He has to get in there. The noises, he hears them...]

[But naturally it's just him. In the vents there's only the spiders' tiny footprints in the thin layer of dust at the bottom. No sound or sight of them moving around in there now.]

[Dustin puts his full weight into the wall socket's frame.]

...piece...of... [He pauses to re-position his hand for a better angle before giving the metal another furious pull.] ...shit! [And then one of the fingers of his prosthetic snaps under the pressure. A bizarre phantom pain, like every nerve in his hand being pinched at the same time, spikes through what remains of his left arm.] Shit!

[This gets him to pull away for a few moments. But only a few. Face pale, metal hand crumpled and held to his chest, Dustin stares down the wall socket with a fury he hasn't felt in a long time, howls and thrusts his other hand through the gap between the frame and the wall. The exposed rough metal promptly tears the sleeve of his shirt and slices a line through his arm. Dustin doesn't seem to notice as he blindly, ferociously scrabbles about in the space behind.]
