TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: YOUR COOPERATION IS APPRECIATED
When you wake up, you find that a new application has been downloaded to your tablet. It's titled "SURVEY" and is exactly what it claims to be--although there's no explanation to why it's appeared or what it is for other than the note that claims the survey is not opt-out and that your cooperation is appreciated. And more troubling, the questions become more sinister the farther in you answer. Such questions as, "on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your stay?" and "have your needs been met in a timely manner?" become more akin to, "if you had to chose between the two, would you eat your hands or your feet to stave off the hunger?" and "are you sure you are not the last one still alive?"

Perhaps someone on the Network would like to discuss what this could mean--and if there are any consequences behind finishing or refusing to take the survey.

TWO: NOT SO HELPFUL AVATARS
Every tablet has the option for a customizable avatar that will talk to you and keep your tablet in order. Maybe you set it up, maybe you never checked it. Either way, it keeps popping up unrequested and being sort of... Odd. Flickering, talking in strange, mechanical voices, offering advice that's unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst... Maybe it's even telling the entire network some things you've been doing you'd rather everyone didn't know.

Time to call tech support. Unfortunately, the best option is other people on the network. Good luck.

Action Prompts
THREE: SPIDERS IN THE WALLS
Somehow you or your travel companion injured themselves. A quick call to the admin fixed this, but now you can't help but be gripped with the burning curiosity of where the helpful spiders she deployed have gone. You saw them scramble toward the vents, but by the time paralysis wore off they'd completely disappeared. Only now you can't stop thinking about them. Where do they go to? How can they be trapped or followed? You swear you hear little mechanical pattering inside the walls. Maybe you can find some sort of tool to help you break into a vent around the house. Or maybe your companion can convince you to rest before you hurt yourself.

FOUR: SCHOOL DAYS
You've ended up in the elementary school. Maybe you're grabbing more food, maybe you're exploring. Either way, this place is creepy; the atmosphere is the sort that gets the hair on the back of your neck rising (potentially metaphorically, if you don't have hair or a neck). It's not long before strange things start happening. The sound of running and screaming children, doors slamming in far off or nearby hallways, pianos playing... What's going on? It's hard to tell what's really happening from what isn't happening. Maybe someone who's also exploring has some idea.

[She hums quietly at that first comment, a noncommittal, unconvinced noise, but doesn't tease back. She's focused on this plan of his, which... Well. She'll have to be quick. She can be quick.

Natasha nods, crossing her arms.]

It's worth a shot. Let's try it.
definingfuture: (T - I'm always telling the truth.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-04 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's the spirit. Now, all we need is bait to bring them back out to see us.

[Tony grins at Natasha, because if he doesn't then she'll know how nervous he is.]

Think she'll answer another distress call? I know we can make it convincing.

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-07-04 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Tony. She's known you for forever, and she's been trained to read people, anyway.]

Of course we can.

[She holds out her hand for the shiv.]

If I cut myself and you make the call, will you be fast enough to catch one?
definingfuture: (T - And this fucking thing.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-04 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably not.

[His answer is honest. Tony knows that when it comes to physical abilities, he's good, but Natasha is faster. It's a simple fact that he won't pretend is any other way. He looks at the weapon, hesitates, and hands it back to her.]

You'll stand a better chance of catching one. And if this doesn't work, then it's better if you're in one piece. We can't afford to risk you.

[If the Admin decides they are just not worth the resources or if she suspects that they are up to something since it would be a second call so soon after the first, there is a chance that she won't deploy the spiders. And then one of them will be injured.]

I need you. Just in case we're on our own here.

[Natasha studies him for a moment, then finally lets her hand drop to her side, still holding the shiv.]

Alright, but I'll be the one doing the cutting.

[Her voice is just a touch softer. Tony is tough. He can take care of himself, but it's obvious he's not thrilled about the idea. In any case, she knows how to do damage that won't be mortal. She isn't completely clear on how this works—if there's any sort of vetting process the Admin does before sending in the spiders, but she also thinks they should at least make it seem legitimate, give themselves the best chance. At least she can make it look bad while making sure it's something she can patch up if the Admin decides not to help.

And, hey, if the Admin decides not to, that gives them information, too. It implies that she doesn't send in assistance for purposefully inflicted injuries, or at least, that she's keeping a very close on even in-person conversations. Natasha holds out her free hand for his arm.]

Ready?
definingfuture: (T - You smart son of a bitch.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-05 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I trust you. You've got the steady hand.

[More jokes, but this time Tony's humor falls a bit flat. He's had worse, of course. This isn't the most dangerous plan they've ever had by a long shot, but he hates the pain he knows is coming. He thinks if he wilts now Natasha will laugh at him. So much for Iron Man, shaking at a little cut. All the same, he has to steel himself to offer his arm forward; remind himself that this was his idea in the first place.

His smile is a little sharp, but he grins with teeth showing in a show of bravado that he hopes she won't see through.]

I've always wanted an excuse to have you play doctor with me. Okay. Ready.

[Natasha might have been sterner with him normally, if they were at home. Here, though, the wound carries a very real risk of infection, so she doesn't blame him for being nervous. She rolls her eyes at the quip, taking his arm and setting the blade against his skin.]

I might slip. Don't tempt me.

[She cuts as she speaks, hoping the usual back and forth will distract him. Natasha is quick and efficient, the would deep enough to bleed like crazy, deep enough to need stitches, but she doesn't nick anything vital.]

definingfuture: (T - Thank you. I know what I said.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-05 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
You would pick now as the time to lose your char-augh!

[He bites back his yell as the blade cuts in, hissing breath after she finishes. It looks worse than it is. Tony can feel that much. He does know the difference. But that doesn't mean it's not effective, and he has to take a moment to get over the numbing pain as he adjusts to it. What he wouldn't give for Extremis right now.]

Okay. Okay, make the call. I hope I don't have to be on the ground to get the Admin's attention. By the way, did I mention yet that I'm glad to see you here? I might have forgotten to say that.

[Natasha pulls the blade away as he hisses, eyebrows going up just a tick.]

Don't be a baby, Stark.

[She lets go of his arm and steps back, reaching in her pocket for her tablet as she smiles.]

Sit down. [The spiders paralyze as they work, and they don't need him falling over from a standing position. As she taps away a message on the tablet, she continues, voice still dry:] I'd like to add that you can't use this as an excuse to withhold my raise.

[She's glad he's here too, though. Message sent, Natasha positions herself by one of the vents to wait.]
definingfuture: (T - I break everything I love.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-05 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Next time, you bleed and I get to rate your performance.

[He says that, but knowing Natasha, she wouldn't even blink. Tony wryly makes a mental note of yet another reason he misses the armor. At least no one would see him flinch.]

I've had a long day and it's cold. Try me again when I'm not slowly freezing.

[He settles into petty complaints, which for some reason make him feel better. He waves his good hand dismissively as he sits down, looking toward the vent where they last saw the spiders disappear into.]

We'll see how good you do with phase two. I'm counting on you.

[His expression becomes serious as the first spiders start emerging from the vent. The usual pretense of careless ease fades away and leaves sharp concentration in its place.] Remember, don't let them get you. This is all going to be wasted if you get caught.

Tony, I'm a professional.

[And wearing armored gloves, courtesy of the suit she showed up here in. The first spiders crawl out of the vent, and Natasha gives it a second or two, just enough to be certain they've started going to work on Tony, before her hand darts out and she snatches one. She grips it tightly, trusting the gloves to do their job—they've gotten her through a million worse things before. Impossibly, though, she feels a little prick. Almost imperceptible, but enough, and then she's crumpling to the ground with a very painful sounding thump.

Some professional.]
definingfuture: (IM - I might have miscalculated.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-05 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[The spiders go about their job, which is all part of the plan. Tony doesn't resist, the paralysis. But once he can move again, Natasha is on the ground right along with him, which is the very first thought he has when he is able to look around again. It's nice to know that the Admin wasn't leaving him with that injury, but having Natasha paralyzed meant that their plan did not go well. He groans as he gets used to motion again, still lying face up where he was left.]

I thought spiders weren't supposed to be able to be caught in webs.

[Come on, Widow.] I'm telling Spider-Man the next time I see him.

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-07-05 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Natasha did not hit the ground gracefully by any stretch of the imagination. She's not injured, but it hurt, and she's mad at herself for not going through with her end of the plan.

Tony, of course, has to make a stupid spider joke, and Natasha groans, hating her life just a little bit more as she sits up, still stiff from whatever the spider injected her with.]

Should we try again? I hear the third time's the charm.
definingfuture: (T - Instant regret.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-05 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. No. Wait, hang on a minute.

[It takes Tony a few small rolls before he manages to push himself upright. He at least was sitting when the paralysis took effect, but his body is still weak from the experience. Once he manages to face Nat, he rubs his face.]

What happened? I thought you had it. Don't tell me they've got a bigger bite than you.
redrooms: (014)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-07-06 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
A bigger bite than your gloves.

[She holds up a hand, covered in the armored mesh of her catsuit.]

I can grab a blade with these, but they won't stop an injection?
definingfuture: (T - Honestly you know I lie.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-07-07 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tony looks a little bit offended by that, but clearly Natasha is right. His work didn't hold up.]

It might not be penetrating. It might just be that small. Which means we need extra coverage to keep you safe. I didn't design that for insect attacks. It's supposed to be impact resistant. Those are completely different needs.

[Time to rethink the plan. He paces a little, restless with nowhere to put his thoughts, but with his muscles still feeling like jelly he doesn't go far.]

I need materials. Scrap would work if we could find any. If we tried again now, you still wouldn't be able to hold one. What we need is a snare. And a container.
