Network Prompts ONE: YOUR COOPERATION IS APPRECIATED When you wake up, you find that a new application has been downloaded to your tablet. It's titled "SURVEY" and is exactly what it claims to be--although there's no explanation to why it's appeared or what it is for other than the note that claims the survey is not opt-out and that your cooperation is appreciated. And more troubling, the questions become more sinister the farther in you answer. Such questions as, "on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your stay?" and "have your needs been met in a timely manner?" become more akin to, "if you had to chose between the two, would you eat your hands or your feet to stave off the hunger?" and "are you sure you are not the last one still alive?" Perhaps someone on the Network would like to discuss what this could mean--and if there are any consequences behind finishing or refusing to take the survey. TWO: NOT SO HELPFUL AVATARS Every tablet has the option for a customizable avatar that will talk to you and keep your tablet in order. Maybe you set it up, maybe you never checked it. Either way, it keeps popping up unrequested and being sort of... Odd. Flickering, talking in strange, mechanical voices, offering advice that's unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst... Maybe it's even telling the entire network some things you've been doing you'd rather everyone didn't know. Time to call tech support. Unfortunately, the best option is other people on the network. Good luck. Action Prompts THREE: SPIDERS IN THE WALLS Somehow you or your travel companion injured themselves. A quick call to the admin fixed this, but now you can't help but be gripped with the burning curiosity of where the helpful spiders she deployed have gone. You saw them scramble toward the vents, but by the time paralysis wore off they'd completely disappeared. Only now you can't stop thinking about them. Where do they go to? How can they be trapped or followed? You swear you hear little mechanical pattering inside the walls. Maybe you can find some sort of tool to help you break into a vent around the house. Or maybe your companion can convince you to rest before you hurt yourself. FOUR: SCHOOL DAYS You've ended up in the elementary school. Maybe you're grabbing more food, maybe you're exploring. Either way, this place is creepy; the atmosphere is the sort that gets the hair on the back of your neck rising (potentially metaphorically, if you don't have hair or a neck). It's not long before strange things start happening. The sound of running and screaming children, doors slamming in far off or nearby hallways, pianos playing... What's going on? It's hard to tell what's really happening from what isn't happening. Maybe someone who's also exploring has some idea.

His tail twitches in amusement.

"A high compliment indeed. You are not quite so foolish as a god."

"I'll take that as a complement as well. So I know my deal. What's yours, anyhow?"

"My deal? I do not have one."

He is a cat. Obviously.

"What are you? I mean, I doubt Hild was kind enough to give me the ability to talk to other cats, so you have to be talking all on your lonesome. So what's the deal?"

"I am a cat."

Were you expecting something helpful? Too bad.

He snorted. "No kidding. So am I. What the demon else are you?"

"A great many things," he concedes grudgingly. "None of which concern you." Explaining what he is can be such a chore. He prefers to let people figure it out for themselves.

He snorted a bit. "Fine fine. But maybe we could help each other out... you never know."

"You may be of use," he grudgingly admits. "But we must leave this place before the nature of my existence will become relevant." He hates being so useless here. They could at least have left him more of his Sight.

"What's with the time crunch?" Velsper asked. "We're cats. Who cares if we go with the flow?"

"There is no 'time crunch'. It simply isn't relevant."

"Fine, but it this way. Why does it matter if the nature of your blah blah blah becomes relevant?"

"When it does, I will go far from this place and alert the Great Gods to certain worrying aspects of its existence."

Even if they call it science, he doubts the gods will be okay with such blatant disregard for life, death and order.

"Great gods...." That is probably the most disgusted expression that a cat's face could make, even his whiskers seemed to curl at the thought. It was almost comical. "Why would you want to talk to Gods? They have to be the most irritating and boring creatures ever. The worlds would be better without most of 'um."

"Boring many of them may be. But this is a matter which must be dealt with." After all, mortals are being taken from their own worlds to this one. They could take any number of people he cares about.

And here comes a simple yet complex question. "Why?"

"Because it must." The statement has the weight of a final answer. He doesn't need the demon to understand. He needs the demon to do.

"I don't see a thing wrong with this," he said, stretching lazily. "Seems like the perfect setting to cause a little havoc." And because he now wanted to mess with the other cat, he added, "Don't you agree, Blue Lance?" He peered over his shoulder as his demonic familiar appeared. Yes. the hat has a familiar....

She came out from his back, her lower half wrapped in what looked like bandadges, an impish grin on her face as she leaned close, looking over both cats, to peer at the violet eyed one, curious.

The Cat pauses and looks back to see what the demon is talking about. He is no more impressed by the apparition than he was by the demon. If either of them had any strength then so would he, and his would swamp both their powers combined.

This is all so far beneath his dignity.

"You wish to break the curse you so foolishly laid upon yourself, do you not? You cannot do it here."

"Oh trust me, I can," he assured the other. The familiar vanished into his back as he stretched. "I figured out how to get out from under everything else. It's just a matter of finding a better curse."

Pounce stares at him, wondering just how foolish this demon might be.

"I wish you the best of luck, in any case. At the moment I am searching this building for anything that two-leggers may have missed."

Let's move it along, shall we?

He was willing to follow the other, for now. "Two-leggers miss a lot, what specifically?"

"Anything that might be useful."

It's entirely possible they missed something REALLY IMPORTANT simply because they didn't think to look a little harder.

"Well," he yawned. "That's annoyingly vague."

The Cat said nothing, only switching his tail in amusement. Annoyingly vague is exactly what he was going for.
