Network Prompts ONE: @XX_BLAZEIT69 You’ve just downloaded a brand new application that you found in a building to your tablet. It turns out it’s some sort of username assignment program. Using it allows you to select current active usernames and rename them into new ones that only you can change. But with great power comes great responsibility—will you use this new program to give people usernames they’d like in place of an unfortunate one they gave themselves before they realized it couldn’t be changed…or will you give them something you think is more fitting for them, flattering or otherwise? TWO: CONTENT WARNING It’s around the time that new arrivals should be appearing on the network, but you’re noticing a bit of a bigger influx than normal. When you click on one of the posts by one of them, you’re redirected to a flood of disturbing text and images that disappears completely once you manage to exit out—as if it had never been there in the first place. Maybe you should warn the others to be careful of what they click on. Or maybe you can discuss it with those who have already made the same mistake as you did. Action Prompts THREE: WALKING IN CIRCLES You’ve been walking all day, tirelessly, but somehow, even though you’re sure you’ve been walking in a straight line you keep passing the same landmarks and coming back to the same house you started from. You’re not sure if it’s your imagination or if you’re actually getting turned around, but you’re determined not to stop until you’ve found a new place to sleep in. Unfortunately, the longer you try, the closer you get to lockdown. Maybe the one you’re traveling with will be able to help you get your bearings before you both freeze to death? FOUR: TOPSY TURVY It's past lockdown, and it should be a quiet and peaceful night - as quiet and peaceful as any night can get in Norfinbury, anyway. And you've even managed to find somebody to bunker down with! But about an hour or so into the lockdown, things start to seem just a little... off. Furniture you could swear was on one side of the room suddenly appears on the other. You might hear footsteps from up above you - even if there's no second floor. Or you might hear whispers, snatches of conversation just quiet enough to be unintelligible. Is your buddy messing with you? Or is this all just in your head?

[Shelly sniffs loudly and starts off for the house even though she's really sure that it isn't a new one at all. She trudges along slowly, dragging her feet through the snow.]

But it looks the same as all the other houses and they were all the same too. How is this even real?

[devoutish]

Illusions. Something like that.

[He frowns, deeply.]

If we keep seeing the same house over and over again, right, then there's something off about it. Might not be safe.

[Shelly's heart sinks. She groans.] So what does that mean? We're in trouble no matter what we do? How are we s'posed to find another house if this house is the only one?

[devoutish]

Lockdown's gonna come soon, and then we'll have no choice.

[But he's hoping to hell they can somehow find something better before then.]

Think you can manage another hour?

[Because walking to the point of literal exhaustion is unsafe too - they need to be able to run if an anomaly appears.]

[Another whole hour? That's like, so long! Like a million years! She makes her distaste known by frowning and crossing her arms dramatically, but it's not like they have any other options.]

Okay.

[She's just gotta keep reminding herself that she's tough. She can totally walk for another hour, no problem.]

Why do you talk like that?

[devoutish]

Like what?

[He glances back at her.]

My accent? I'm from London.

Ohhh, that's why you sound like the guy from Mary Poppins. I'm from Chicago. That's in America. Is London pretty cool?

[devoutish]

Yeah, I know Chicago. Never been, but I've heard of it.

London is a great big city, right, with its good and bad parts. I like my neighborhood.

[Another glance.]

What's Mary Poppins?

[im_tough]

That's good. Mary Poppins is a movie. Disney. It's the one about the nanny that is all magical and stuff, and you sound like the chimney sweep guy with all the instruments and the chalk.

[Shelly makes a face as Alfie keeps looking at her.] What?

[devoutish]

Nothing. Making conversation, yeah?

[He raises an eyebrow.]

We haven't got movies like yours, in my time. I've heard a bit about 'em.

[im_tough]

That sucks. When you get movies, don't start with Mary Poppins. It's okay but there's way better stuff, like all the superhero movies or Harry Potter. Or Saw.

[She smiles for a second, nostalgic about the stuff she misses from home.]

What do you do for fun then?

[devoutish]

For fun. Well. We have parties and get-togethers. Celebrations. I take my nieces and nephews to the sea. That sort of thing.

What do you do, for fun?

[im_tough]

[Shelly grimaces.] That doesn't sound fun. [It's that adult kind of fun that is actually just boring. All just going to places and talking or whatever. Lame.]

I do dancing and ice skating and bow hunting. And I like video games. You know, like Xbox and stuff.

[devoutish]

[He doesn't know, but he kind of thinks he does. He's under the impression that a video game is any game that one plays over a video network.]

You go hunting in Chicago?

[im_tough]

[Shelly bites her lip. When she speaks, she sounds uncertain. She's not great at lying, at least not yet.]

Sometimes. My dad takes me. He taught me how to shoot a bow. That's called fletching.

[devoutish]

Fletching.

[Huh. That's not actually something he'd known - he doesn't know much about hunting.]

Are you any good at it?

[im_tough]

[She shrugs.] Yeah, I'm pretty good. I can kill like, all kinds of animals. Do you like hunting?

[devoutish]

I've never been. What do you think? Do you recommend it?

alfie has a cane maybe ??? or did i imagine that

[She gives him a good once-over. Hmm.]

You could probably handle it. You need good wrists. [She holds one of hers up to illustrate.] I'unno about that cane, though.

[devoutish]

[He holds a wrist up next to hers for her to judge. It's bigger and thicker than hers, but the, he is a grown man.]

[Another good once-over, though this time she squints at his wrist for awhile.]

Yeah, that looks good. If you're not careful, you'll whack yourself in the wrist with the string part and that really hurts.

[devoutish]

I've got a bad back.

[He nods at the cane.]

Will that hold me back?

[im_tough]

Nah. [She's not sure, actually, but her back never felt different when she shot a bow. He'll probably be fine.]

What's a cane got to do with your back? I thought canes were for legs.

[devoutish]

It starts up in my back, and goes down to here.

[He gestures around his knee.]

Leaning on the cane takes the pressure off.
