Network Prompts
ONE: LISTEN, DOLLFACE
It's no secret that dolls have been the talk of the town, lately. People have been finding them all over Norfinbury: some rag dolls that seem particularly relevant to the Prophet, and some that are unsettling without the apparent connection. Still, it's surprising when you found a doll that looks like another one of the residents. You turn to the network, feeling unsettled, unsure what this could mean. Maybe you aren't alone, or maybe someone has a theory? Come to think of it, you're pretty sure that someone else mentioned finding something similar.

TWO: TIPTOES.EXE IS HERE
Sometime today you find an SD card that downloaded an app to your tablet. It's titled HIDEANDSEEK and has the picture of a doll as its icon. When you open it, it seems like it's a game to play against a digital opponent: a doll. The game appears to have two stages. In the first stage, the doll hides, and you need to travel around the house (is it just you, or does the layout of this house seem to always be the house you're in when you open it?) to find the doll. In the second stage, you need to hide yourself from the doll, and listen for its movements so it can't catch you.

If it does catch you, it will be holding a knife. The screen goes red and the game crashes for the rest of the night. Somewhere on your body, a gash appears. It's nothing fatal, but maybe you should talk to someone about this on the Network.

Action Prompts
THREE: STRANGE THINGS DID HAPPEN HERE
The house that you've found seems promising in terms of useful items to take with you, so you and your traveling companion have spent all day scouring the house for items. At first, everything's fine. Neither of you find or feel anything out of the ordinary. Lockdown approaches, you go to sleep without any additional trepidation...but an odd creaking noise fills your dreams. It gets louder in your ears until you can't stand it anymore and snap awake. When you open your eyes, it's there hanging just above you, swinging in a nonexistent wind: a doll with a broken neck, a noose tied around its neck. It looks just like you.

FOUR: LOOK BEHIND YOU
Maybe you're not unsettled by dolls--and maybe neither is your companion--but one thing is for certain: this house you've been locked into for the night has an odd, oppressive feeling to it. Maybe it's just because it's full of dolls, though they all seem ordinary enough. Nothing strange happens at first, but as the night goes on...you finally notice: wasn't that porcelain baby doll on the other side of the room the last time you were in it? Didn't you turn that other one to face away from where you were sleeping?

The more the night goes on, the more obvious the movements become--sometimes, you even swear you hear the pitter patter of little feet. But nothing ever happens when you're watching. Maybe it's just your imagination. Or maybe, you realize in frustration, your traveling companion is trying to scare you. But is your paranoia worth the confrontation if it is? And will you even believe them if they swear their innocence?

[Cassel stays silent for a moment, listening carefully. After a second, he's about to tell her she's hearing things, but then—there. There's a quiet scuffling sound, like someone is moving around. He meets her eyes and then shifts forward, pulling a shiv from his belt. It isn't much, just half of a pair of scissors that he's sharpened, but it's better than nothing. He pitches his voice low when he responds.]

How long have you been hearing that?
bloodbiter: (i will use you as a surfboard)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-12-02 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I've only been hearing it for several minutes.

[A sigh, though, as she continues. She matches his tone, shifting to a whisper as she frowns. At least she knows she's not imagining the noises now, and she isn't convinced that a group of dolls could do much damage to either of them in any case.]

However, I've been noticing strange things all night. It seems as though they're moving to different places or positions somehow, but I haven't managed to see it while it's happening.

"They're"?

[He glances behind her, then groans and lets his head tilt back to fall against the wall.]

You mean the dolls.

[Of course she means the dolls. This place just keeps upping the horror movie factor.]

Great. Getting murdered by Barbie wasn't at the top of my list.
bloodbiter: (you do not fuck with a man that knows)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-12-02 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Barbie...?

[Her brows raise for a moment, curious, but the fact that she has no idea what a Barbie is isn't the priority right now. Her frown lessens all the same, and she shakes her head.]

From what I could tell, they are made of some sort of glass. If it comes to that, we should be able to destroy them fairly quickly. I've certainly faced much larger foes.

Something tells me they'll just magically repair themselves.

[Way to be a pessimist. He hooks his shiv back into his belt, because it's going to be useless against a bunch of dolls.]

So, what's the plan, princess? Should we break them all now before they start stalking us, or wait it out?

[He says it lightly, shooting her a slightly lopsided grin as he stands up. He's trying very, very hard to look like this place doesn't bother him, and stupid comments are his go-to.]
bloodbiter: (you cannot save my bacon)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-12-02 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
If you think they're just going to repair themselves, there is not much merit in breaking them, is there?

[But more seriously, she pauses for a moment to think his question over, trying to decide what would be best.]

...When you were sleeping, they or whatever is controlling them had an opportunity to harm you, and they didn't. Perhaps they're only there to frighten us, and nothing more.

[He shrugs, stretching his arms over his head.]

It might be a boost to our morale, huh?

[But, okay. Time to be serious.]

Like the shadows hanging around outside. Maybe the admin is screwing with us.
bloodbiter: (he shot up in the sky like a)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-12-02 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
And if it is simply a trick, if they don't mean to harm us... I am not too eager to strike first, honestly.

[It's extremely strange for her to think about, but... If they do start to break the dolls, would they anger them or whoever might be controlling them? She doesn't think they're large enough to do much harm, of course, but she would rather avoid having to find out.]

Perhaps we should just stay awake and alert for the time being rather than take action quite yet. What do you think?

[personal profile] theurgy 2016-12-02 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Cassel nods.]

Sure. I can keep first watch.

[Because he probably won't actually sleep either way.]
bloodbiter: (i'm the only one who can walk)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-12-02 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[A shake of her head.]

It is a good idea for you to watch, but I hope you don't mind if I do the same.

[She might trust him as much as she trusts everyone else, but all the same, she doesn't feel comfortable resting given the activity in this place. She takes a seat near him, leaning against the wall.]

[Cassel sits down again himself, moving the bag to give her more room.]

The more the merrier. We've got— [He pauses to pull his tablet out of his bag, checking the time.] —five hours until the doors unlock. Know any good stories?
bloodbiter: (forearms so meaty i could feed)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-12-02 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[She murmurs a thanks as he moves the bag, and then nods to his question.]

I do, but that depends upon the kind of story you would like to hear.
