Network Prompts
ONE: LISTEN, DOLLFACE
It's no secret that dolls have been the talk of the town, lately. People have been finding them all over Norfinbury: some rag dolls that seem particularly relevant to the Prophet, and some that are unsettling without the apparent connection. Still, it's surprising when you found a doll that looks like another one of the residents. You turn to the network, feeling unsettled, unsure what this could mean. Maybe you aren't alone, or maybe someone has a theory? Come to think of it, you're pretty sure that someone else mentioned finding something similar.

TWO: TIPTOES.EXE IS HERE
Sometime today you find an SD card that downloaded an app to your tablet. It's titled HIDEANDSEEK and has the picture of a doll as its icon. When you open it, it seems like it's a game to play against a digital opponent: a doll. The game appears to have two stages. In the first stage, the doll hides, and you need to travel around the house (is it just you, or does the layout of this house seem to always be the house you're in when you open it?) to find the doll. In the second stage, you need to hide yourself from the doll, and listen for its movements so it can't catch you.

If it does catch you, it will be holding a knife. The screen goes red and the game crashes for the rest of the night. Somewhere on your body, a gash appears. It's nothing fatal, but maybe you should talk to someone about this on the Network.

Action Prompts
THREE: STRANGE THINGS DID HAPPEN HERE
The house that you've found seems promising in terms of useful items to take with you, so you and your traveling companion have spent all day scouring the house for items. At first, everything's fine. Neither of you find or feel anything out of the ordinary. Lockdown approaches, you go to sleep without any additional trepidation...but an odd creaking noise fills your dreams. It gets louder in your ears until you can't stand it anymore and snap awake. When you open your eyes, it's there hanging just above you, swinging in a nonexistent wind: a doll with a broken neck, a noose tied around its neck. It looks just like you.

FOUR: LOOK BEHIND YOU
Maybe you're not unsettled by dolls--and maybe neither is your companion--but one thing is for certain: this house you've been locked into for the night has an odd, oppressive feeling to it. Maybe it's just because it's full of dolls, though they all seem ordinary enough. Nothing strange happens at first, but as the night goes on...you finally notice: wasn't that porcelain baby doll on the other side of the room the last time you were in it? Didn't you turn that other one to face away from where you were sleeping?

The more the night goes on, the more obvious the movements become--sometimes, you even swear you hear the pitter patter of little feet. But nothing ever happens when you're watching. Maybe it's just your imagination. Or maybe, you realize in frustration, your traveling companion is trying to scare you. But is your paranoia worth the confrontation if it is? And will you even believe them if they swear their innocence?

definingfuture: (T - This is my eager face.)

Yeah, I think Tony is similar enough to recognize easily.

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-11-18 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[At first glance Tony does think the man is unconscious and he hurries over, kneeling nearby with barely contained panic. He had put all his effort into getting to the shed fast enough to help and for a second he thinks he's too late. The breathing at least lets Tony know he's alive, although he is still not sure what state he's in. Even more shocking is the outfit and the look, which Tony is still processing when Stephen speaks. Tony yelps and jerks back, toppling off-balance before he catches himself.]

Don't do that! Are you okay? [He searches the other man's face and mistakes the surprise for blood loss.] Do you know where you are?
thewarningafter: (goatee | determined | injured)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-11-18 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought I did.

[The voice seems more familiar now that he can match it with a face he's seen dozens of times on television. This could be bad -- if he's mixing up faces and seeing people who aren't here, that means his mental state is impaired, which likely means he's going into shock.

Or Iron Man is actually here in the shed with him. He can't entirely dismiss that possibility.
]

Norfinbury, Alaska. Shed next to the school. Either I'm hallucinating because I'm a lot worse off than I thought, though, or you're Tony Stark.
definingfuture: (T - You smart son of a bitch.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-11-20 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[At first the answer just makes Tony more worried, because if Stephen (Is it Stephen?) is doubting himself, then he might have lost too much blood. And Tony isn't confident he can help if the man passes out on him. He's not the doctor. But then Stephen tells him where he is, and he sounds coherent, and he says Tony's name, which makes him breathe an audible sigh of relief.]

You're fine. Well, not fine, but you're going to be okay. You know me? That makes things easier. At least you're not depending on a complete stranger.
thewarningafter: (goatee | smile | hint of a smile)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-11-20 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen you on TV. We almost met at a gala, once.

[Huh. Should have kept up better with his reading on the network. He's a recent arrival, sure, but he ought to have done the digging by now to know that someone else was here from his own dimension.]

Stephen Strange. I think most of the bleeding has stopped.
definingfuture: (T - I think they like me.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-11-22 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Tony smiles almost like he's embarrassed by that comment. Ah, yes, those old parties. He still makes some appearances when he has to, but he used to be far more active and has an idea of what Stephen is referring to.]

I know who you are. If it stopped bleeding, does that mean it's not as deep as you made it sound? Half a day... I have a sewing kit. And some food, if you're hungry.

[Did Stephen manage to stop it? He is a doctor, and maybe the town wasn't able to stop the Sorcerer Supreme? Tony suddenly hopes his magic really can beat this magic.]
thewarningafter: (griefbeard | snark | late fees)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-11-22 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I said no signs of significant internal damage.

[It's odd, and oddly relieving, to be recognized. Of course, Stephen's assuming Tony means he knows who he is from before - he'd been a recognizable enough figure in New York before the accident, after all.]

Risk of infection goes up for every hour it's open...and you were right about not moving. Think I caused some secondary damage.

[He winces and shifts his position to start easing the blanket out from his side. His tabard is soaked through, which will be hell to deal with later.]

Let's start with the stitches.
definingfuture: (T - Nothing beside remains.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-11-24 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Y-yeah, well... When people say things like that, it usually means there are other problems. You know, like telling someone you didn't lose an eye after you break your arm.

[Or maybe that's just him and his friends. Tony offers Stephen a weak smile which turns to a sympathy wince when Stephen shifts. It looks bad. For some reason just seeing that blood makes Tony's stomach drop. Stephen shouldn't be able to bleed like that.]

You really think this is a good idea? The sewing I've done has been clothes, not injuries.

[Although he does have engineer's precision and a love of directions. Maybe...]

God. [Okay, no, he's nervous as Hell.]
thewarningafter: (goatee | smile | Wong told on me?)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-11-24 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[He can't help it -- he laughs, even if he has cause to immediately regret it.]

I'm a doctor, Mr. Stark, not a superhero.

[Just a little private joke for himself, there.]

If I could do it myself, I would, but I need someone with steady hands. I'm going to talk you through every step. Promise I won't even cry.

[He's joking. He really is joking.]
definingfuture: (T - I break everything I love.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-11-25 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
You're kidding. You're totally a superhero.

[Even if Stephen isn't the same as the one he knows--that's been the norm so far--or he's from a different time, Tony can't help but blurt out his thoughts. Doctor Strange is one of the friends he looks up to, after all.

Oh, right. Stephen wants him to stitch a cut.]

I guess now would be a bad time to mention I'm squeamish.

[He's trying to make a joke back and meet the humor with his own, but if anyone is going to be crying, Tony thinks it'll be him.]

Okay. Okay, yeah, how hard can it be?
thewarningafter: (goatee | determined | injured)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-11-25 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Stephen blinks at Tony in surprise. Did he...? But when? He doesn't think he's made much of a name for himself outside his own order just yet. It's too weird a way to say it to be a return joke. He files that away for later, though, wanting to direct his attention to the matter at hand.]

The good news just keeps coming. We'll start with the easy part. There's a bottle of alcohol in my bag -- not the fun kind, though. That's for the needle; it'll be water for the wound. Soap, if you've got any.
definingfuture: (T - The raccoon ate my pizza.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-11-25 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry. [And he is. If Stephen had a better choice, Tony is certain he would already have contacted them. But since he's stuck with the engineer, at least Tony is going to try to help. He's a hero, right? He can do this.]

I have shampoo. [He's trying.] For the record, nothing is really "fun" here, so you don't have to clarify. I hope you can work with this. It's all I've got.

[He produces sewing needles and thread. It's a little sewing kit, and somehow showing Stephen makes him feel worse.]

If we could reprogram the nanites...
thewarningafter: (griefbeard | snark | late fees)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-11-26 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's perfect.

[He means it, ironically enough. Shampoo will work about as well as hand soap, and at least the sewing kit has enough thread that they won't run out in the middle. It's not his first choice, sure, but he wasn't exactly expecting his first choice, here.

He fumbles his way through the buckles on his belt, wincing as he works at shifting layers of clothing to expose the wound.
]

From what I understand, the ship has sailed as far as emergency treatment goes.
definingfuture: (T - Stand in the desert.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-11-29 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. I could do it.

[If he weren't locked out, of course. But that seems to be the point. They aren't allowed access to technology that could potentially help them. It's almost like they're being forcibly held back.]

That looks bad.

[Or messy at least. He doesn't know enough about injuries to know if the amount of blood is as dangerous as it appears, but Tony definitely feels like it is.]

We could always try to make contact with them. Maybe she'll make an exception.

[He's just saying that to feel better at this point. Stephen needs help and he's already committed to that. It's just daunting to see the injury directly.]

Pain killers at least... Don't you want something?
thewarningafter: (griefbeard | manpain | the way back)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-12-01 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Of course you could -- if you had a point of access.

[Stephen feels this pain, okay? The can't-use-his-abilities pain, that is, not the pain in his side. He does feel that pain as well but that wasn't the point of this train of thought.]

You think she'll actually send them? Because I wouldn't say no to some ibuprofen.
definingfuture: (T - Peter no.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-12-03 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. [He can't help sounding just a little dry there.] I usually don't have this much trouble getting access.

I don't know if she'll send them, but we can try.

[And Tony does pull back to send a distress message to Eve. The chances of her replying are slim, but he's going to try every channel they have. And maybe get Stephen real medical help.]

Okay, Doctor, let's put you back together.
thewarningafter: (goatee | determined | injured)

[personal profile] thewarningafter 2016-12-05 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmhmm.

[Him neither, buddy. Source code of the universe at his fingertips and he can't so much as make a short hop across town.

He takes in a deep breath, lets it out slowly, tries to pass it off as something like that meditation he was doing earlier. It sort of is. He can't show any signs of nervousness, not when Stark already seems antsy.
]

Alright. I'm not going to lie, this is going to be hard. You're going to feel like you're doing it wrong. That's normal for your first time.

[Crap, this was supposed to be a pep talk.]

There's a pair of tweezers in the outside pocket of my pack, you'll want to use them to grip the needle. If you use your fingers you're going to have a bad time.

[The. Peppiest.]

[ooc: If you want to drop this I'm fine, but if you don't stop me I will absolutely tag this right up until Stephen's actually in the game.]
definingfuture: (T - Every promise turned to dust.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-12-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Tony clearly looks bothered by the declaration that this will be hard. He's a prodigy and has always taken disappointment harder than others, because feeling like he's doing anything wrong feels like a disaster in the making. But he nods, solemn and committed. He has to help.]

You're the one that has to put up with this. I'm more worried about you passing out than my bad time.

[He's sincere. If Tony does a bad job, it means someone else suffers. Still, he does as directed and looks in Stephen's pack pocket for the tweezers.]

I'll be careful. I promise.

[ooc: I won't stop you. I'm enjoying it!]
