Network Prompts
ONE: LISTEN, DOLLFACE
It's no secret that dolls have been the talk of the town, lately. People have been finding them all over Norfinbury: some rag dolls that seem particularly relevant to the Prophet, and some that are unsettling without the apparent connection. Still, it's surprising when you found a doll that looks like another one of the residents. You turn to the network, feeling unsettled, unsure what this could mean. Maybe you aren't alone, or maybe someone has a theory? Come to think of it, you're pretty sure that someone else mentioned finding something similar.

TWO: TIPTOES.EXE IS HERE
Sometime today you find an SD card that downloaded an app to your tablet. It's titled HIDEANDSEEK and has the picture of a doll as its icon. When you open it, it seems like it's a game to play against a digital opponent: a doll. The game appears to have two stages. In the first stage, the doll hides, and you need to travel around the house (is it just you, or does the layout of this house seem to always be the house you're in when you open it?) to find the doll. In the second stage, you need to hide yourself from the doll, and listen for its movements so it can't catch you.

If it does catch you, it will be holding a knife. The screen goes red and the game crashes for the rest of the night. Somewhere on your body, a gash appears. It's nothing fatal, but maybe you should talk to someone about this on the Network.

Action Prompts
THREE: STRANGE THINGS DID HAPPEN HERE
The house that you've found seems promising in terms of useful items to take with you, so you and your traveling companion have spent all day scouring the house for items. At first, everything's fine. Neither of you find or feel anything out of the ordinary. Lockdown approaches, you go to sleep without any additional trepidation...but an odd creaking noise fills your dreams. It gets louder in your ears until you can't stand it anymore and snap awake. When you open your eyes, it's there hanging just above you, swinging in a nonexistent wind: a doll with a broken neck, a noose tied around its neck. It looks just like you.

FOUR: LOOK BEHIND YOU
Maybe you're not unsettled by dolls--and maybe neither is your companion--but one thing is for certain: this house you've been locked into for the night has an odd, oppressive feeling to it. Maybe it's just because it's full of dolls, though they all seem ordinary enough. Nothing strange happens at first, but as the night goes on...you finally notice: wasn't that porcelain baby doll on the other side of the room the last time you were in it? Didn't you turn that other one to face away from where you were sleeping?

The more the night goes on, the more obvious the movements become--sometimes, you even swear you hear the pitter patter of little feet. But nothing ever happens when you're watching. Maybe it's just your imagination. Or maybe, you realize in frustration, your traveling companion is trying to scare you. But is your paranoia worth the confrontation if it is? And will you even believe them if they swear their innocence?

[ So, Jack scares her. Like, a lot. Especially when he starts talking like that, and especially because she's so tired. Naminé knows she's not making those noises, but would he believe her if she said that? ]

I-I'm sorry.

[ She suddenly really wishes Roxas were here. ]
hijackass: (this is weird)

[personal profile] hijackass 2016-11-24 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ Please, oh please let that slip so Jack can make some sort of joke about people whose names sound like "Rock ass" because that would totally make his day. Night? Yeah, night. The time when he should be asleep instead of awake. Thanks for that, kiddo. ]

A tut tut tut. [ Jack holds up a finger. ] Words. Noises. We talked about this cupcake. [ It's a falsely sweet tone of admonishment. ]
chainbroke: (gasp)

[personal profile] chainbroke 2016-11-24 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ Neither she nor Roxas would ever be able to live that down, oh god. Naminé's about to reply again--it's probably another apology!--but the threat from before rings out in her had. So she closes her mouth and just nods. Naminé turns over again to try and get some shut-eye...

... And then the footsteps start up again. Her eyes widen. Naminé fumbles for her tablet and turns on the flashlight before she glances over at Jack, still too afraid to say anything. But her alarmed expression should say a lot, right? ]

Oh for chrissake-- [ STRIKE NUMBER THREE as far as Jack's concerned (even though technically that's only the second infraction?), and when he rolls over of course she's got her dang light on making it even harder to get a good night's rest in this place.

Bandits totally sucked no matter what age they were, god. And here he was trying to be the bigger man, to let bygones be bygones until he didn't have a use for her and everything and could leave her for dead. Now he's gotta kill her and waste a bunch of time making sure she...

Wow, not even paying attention to him. This brat, amirite? ]

Uhhh, hello? The guy about to snap you in half is over this way? Godddd this is what I hate about you bandits.

[ Jack might not believe those little dolls are possessed, but she does. Especially considering there's one staring up at her, its face tilted upward at her. Naminé swallows hard and keeps her eyes on the doll, too afraid to tear her eyes away from it.

It's risky, incredibly risky, but with a shaking voice to match her hands, Naminé whispers, ]
I don't... I don't think that was th--

[ She drops her tablet, and the footsteps start back up again, even though it's obvious she hasn't moved an inch. ]

[ Really obvious, and thaaaat...is honestly kind of freaky! Huh. Tiny bandit hasn't moved and inch and that scuttling sound is still happening when Jack growls and pulls out his own and shines that light. Girst on Namie, and then.........to the empty space where that ugly little doll was just a second ago. ]

...Oh come on, are we seriously doing this? The whole "oooh, I'm a scary living doll!"? [ He's asking this more to the general "room" then Namine herself, but hey! At least his attention's off her now huh? ]

[personal profile] chainbroke 2016-11-25 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ Oh thank god. She's so relieved he's not threatening to murder her anymore. But her fear far outweighs that. She holds the tablet close to her chest, the light on it shaking from how she's shaking. ]

I think... I think if we watch them, th-they won't move anymore.
hijackass: (sooo you sure about that or)

[personal profile] hijackass 2016-11-25 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeahhhh or! We could do this. [ Because as fun as staying up all night keeping a light on these dolls sounds, yeahno. Not that doesn't sound fun at all. So Jack is just going to stride on over to the tiny doll and grab it roughly in one hand, squeezing harder and harder until a large crack runs through it's head--and it caves in.

He throws it out the window a moment later, and claps his hands together. ]

[ .... oooookay that's a way to do it! Naminé absolutely finds this disturbing for some reason she can't place, because her head feels so fuzzy and she's so tired. At the same time... she's relieved, in a twisted sort of way.

At least... that's how she feels. She'd thank him, but sh has a feeling he'd make a comment about it? But if she doesn't thank him, she might seem ungrateful? But he didn't do it for her, did he?

... Needless to say, there are a lot of thoughts just racing through her mind, which results in, basically, the expression in the icon above. Wonderful. ]
hijackass: (shampoo commercial)

[personal profile] hijackass 2016-11-25 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ Jack's just going to interpret that expression as "Wow Jack, you're so heroic and handsome! A lowly bandit like me doesn't deserve to be saved by you! Also, you're super-attractive and cool and stuff!"

Ye-p. All par for the course for someone as badass as Jack. He'll turn to face her fully now, arms akimbo. ]

You can grovel anytime now kiddo. [ ....No really. Where's the gratitude?? Talking is totally okay when you do it to appreciate how awesome he is. ]

[personal profile] chainbroke 2016-11-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh--

[ Okay, she overthought that, but with Jack she never really knows for sure. Now she just feels kind of silly... ]

... Thank you, [ she says in a small, quiet voice. ] I... I'll try not to bother you again.
hijackass: (o you)

[personal profile] hijackass 2016-11-26 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Damn right you will! And when anyone asks who saved you from a bunch of crappy dolls, you go ahead and tell them it was ol' Handsome Jack. Don't say I never did anything for you.

[ As if this is SOME EPIC, BIG DEAL that he basically broke a child's toy and threw it out the window. A creepy as hell child's toy, but still. He was awesome about it. ]

Now, as fun as being cold and miserable is I'd rather not add 'tired' to that list so. Lights out, kiddo.
