Tell me how I can be of some actual use here. And be gentler when I mess it up.

[The confusion is genuine, but the nature of the forced honesty does make him think some more than he might otherwise.]
The whole placebos to try to fix people thing is kind of weird, I guess. It's like lying instead of doing a real thing. But I think I kind of get why, since I tried it with giving Clint some of those pills I found.

As for the pills, there is extensive research that for some, placebos and homeopathy does work. I would link you to all sorts of articles that can be found online, but obviously it's impossible here.
It's not universal, and it definitely depends on the patient's openness to alternative medicines. But if things like acupuncture work, why not the strength of one's spirit?

[Please. Please let him salvage some dignity. Thank god for weird medical talk, even if forced honesty means he has to answer a rhetorical question.]
You say 'why not', and I don't actually know. It just seems weird, you know? I've seen a lot of weird shit in life, but I'm not really one for faith. I take what's in front of me, not what I'm told about miracle cures that are just water and sugar pills.

I have faith, but I don't even think it's about miracles. There is actual scientific research looking into it. Obviously, there are people that firmly believe in the placebo effect and people who don't. I'm fairly neutral on the subject, but if it works for someone, I don't see a reason why they shouldn't keep at it.

If it works for them, then that's probably good for their sake, yeah. I'm just sayin', if it were me, I'd prefer the real thing. I don't want someone to lie to help me—and you say there's research, but I guess it's more the concept that bugs me. The idea.
