No such regulation on appearance exists in Ishgard. A man's appearance is his own to worry about.

Not even when tangled hair interferes with your ability to fight?

Our soldiers are not so inept that hair would lead to their downfall. We have helms, we can tie our hair back--if your nation's military is so incompetent in such regard, I worry for you.

Is that a prevailing concern in your military? How oft do men die due to their hair?

[This is the first he's ever hard of such an incident, so now he's actually curious.]

They don't, because the military shaves soldiers. Until they reach a certain rank, I think. I never paid much attention, honestly.

So 'tis mere paranoia backing the regulation. It quite does not speak of confidence in your soldiers if 'tis believed that something as harmless as hair length could impede a man's ability to fight.

Do the female soldiers follow similar regulation?

I dunno. They were only very recently allowed to take combat positions in the military. At least in my country.

Aye. Ishgard has allowed women to take up arms, but 'twas not always thus. Some still rue the practice, under the concern that maidens should worry more about their purity and appearance, than slaying dragons.

Small surprise that other worlds think similarly, if not exactly selfsame.
