And? If he fought me, I'd defend myself, but I'm not going to kill him. Whatever that means for me would be my choice, but I'd rather see him in person than let that hang over me until I die here.

Maybe it's different for you, but all I want is to look him in the eyes and know.

And any reasonable person might make a mistake when they're in the process of defending themselves. I couldn't tell you not to hurt him. That would've been ridiculous, not to mention unfair to you if he did try to fight with you.

If it was between us? I wouldn't kill him. I just wouldn't.

Just to know. If the progress I thought we were making was a lie. If he hates me, or if it's fear, or if there was ever a chance to talk. Just to know who I was really looking at before he left, because I never really knew him.

He doesn't hate you. He's just scared for... everyone here. Every single person could be in danger from him if this thing he's dealing with isn't resolved. And bringing more people into it just might end up setting off a chain reaction that causes what he doesn't want to happen... to happen.

Well, he hates me now. And if he's afraid of the Soldier hurting someone, he should have just said so. It's not like I've never dealt with the Winter Soldier before. I know what it means to him.

I just worry about him. I know everyone's got too much going on. He's just... the thing with the Soldier. It's not like anything I've ever heard of.

I know you're worried about him. You're worried, Natasha's worried, Clint's worried, all of you worry. And he's already worried. He's been worried for a while, I imagine.

Nothing I say is going to stop you from worrying. I could tell you I've dealt with the Soldier before, that we have methods to remove the influences placed over him, and that I'm not afraid of Barnes. I could tell you I've died; that I've killed under mind control, and that I understand what that does to you. But that won't stop the fear.

I'd like to see him heal.
