Network Prompts ONE: GIFT BASKET You wake up to find a new application, BASKET.EXE, has downloaded itself to your tablet. The icon is of a cheery pink wicker basket adorned in a bright ribbon and full of eggs and treats. If you click on it, no program appears to immediately load, but then an egg-shaped chocolate in a cheerfully colored wrapper will appear in the corner of your screen. "Eat me?" it asks in an unassuming word bubble. Should you click on it, your tablet goes dark. A cryptic message appears on the center of your screen in red text: Thank you for your contribution. Or maybe it reads: Progress has been saved. Or even: It will be our secret. Whatever the message reads, you feel a shiver pass down your spine, and then your tablet returns to normal. The application has disappeared. TWO: THE RESURRECTION Maybe you've died before or maybe this is your first time, but just like with any other revival, you awake in your body bag, and have to suffer through the task of crawling out into the morgue. You know you'll need to figure out what it is you've awaken to: how long you've been gone, where you are, if anything has changed about you or anyone else. But before you have a chance to do anything to get your bearings, your eyes catch onto something strange. There, on the door to the drawer your body had been stuffed into, someone (or something) has left something. It could be a drawing, or it could be a written word, but whatever it is, the sight of it fills you with a sense of loss. It's familiar, though you're not immediately sure how or why: something that symbolizes something important you've lost in your past. But who would leave this here? And who could know? Action Prompts THREE: RABBIT FEET It's been a long day of traveling, and you and your companion are glad to be reaching your final destination for the night. Someone's even built a rabbit out of snow outside of the door to make the place more inviting. Only...as you get closer, you realize that the tall, white figure is much too detailed to be anything made of snow. The slender figure has a body that could almost be human if not for the way that the limbs attach to the torso at odd angles, and the rabbit face has dark, hollow slits for eyes. It carries a small basket in delicate fingers. It waits for you. It waits for you to get closer, closer. It waits for you to try to get inside. FOUR: SKIN DEEP The day has been rather uneventful, so you wonder why it is you can't sleep. Something is eating at you, poking at the back of your brain, telling you that you're missing something. You look over at your companion and then you see it--something shifting beneath their skin. And then you look down at your own arm, and you see it there, too. An egg has been planted into your skin. And not just one. You wake your companion at once--they need to see what you see. But when you illuminate the situation with the lights from your tablets, you can't see the eggs anymore. You're left to wonder if it was really real, or if your imagination was getting the better of you. But what if it was real? And what happens when the eggs hatch?

Door first, then talking.

[The couch is always a good first step for barricading, so Alfie heads for that, groaning with effort as he goes to push it in front of the door.]

[Lestrade would help, but he's a little busy holding the door just now. He waits until Alfie's dragged it over to step around and help the other man shove it hard up against the door.

At which point, the pounding and scratching stops. The policeman's brows furrow until he hears the sound of a nearby window being scratched at.]

Oh, come on!

[He leaves Alfie and springs over to the window, sees the Easter bunny outside and turns the locks on the window before flipping the arsehole the bird with both hands.]

Other windows. Get them all locked.

[He'll do his part.]

[devoutish]

Yeah.

[He heads towards the kitchen first, calling over his shoulder:]

Half an hour to lockdown, last I checked.

[And that had probably been at least fifteen minutes ago.]

[excellentpoliceman]

Can't come soon enough, mate.

[Lestrade covers the bases with the rest of the windows in the living room, then heads for the bedroom. It's going to be the longest fifteen minutes of his life, but when it finally does come with the telltale click of electronic locks going into place, he finally breathes a sigh of relief and goes to slump down in one of the living room arm chairs.]

Right. I'm calling it. This place is worse than Brixton.

[And that's saying something given some of the crime scenes he's dealt with in Brixton.]

[devoutish]

[Alfie takes the couch, stretching his long legs out in front of him.]

Brixton, eh?

I'm from Camden Town, myself.

[excellentpoliceman]

Could've guessed that, mate. [Lestrade smirks.] Grew up in Barking m'self, along the Thames, but the whole family's from down in Chichester. Always like to keep along the river, though. Shipping down the family line, y'know?

[devoutish]

Yeah. So what sort of business are you in now?

[excellentpoliceman]

[He reaches into his coat and pulls out his badge, turning the tablet on so Alfie can see it.]

Run the homicide division down at Scotland Yard.

[devoutish]

[Ugh, gross. Alfie's expression doesn't change, but still, that's definitely a disappointment.]

Ah. I've been known to cause a homicide or two, in my day.

[Or five, or ten.]

[excellentpoliceman]

[He assumes the man is joking.]

Have you, now? Should I be worried tonight? Got my handcuffs if we're feeling frisky.

[devoutish]

Nah, of course not. If I was gonna attack you, I would've done it sneakily, right.

[excellentpoliceman]

Depends on if you think you need to be sneaky. Name's Lestrade, by the way. Greg Lestrade. Didn't catch yours.

[devoutish]

Alfie Solomons.

[He holds out his hand for a shake.]

[excellentpoliceman]

[Now, there's a name he's seen around on the network. So, the thief and the bloke who helped kill someone. He wasn't joking about the homicides. Still, Lestrade keeps his light tone and amiable expression in place. Anyone might be able to tell Alfie that Lestrade was more often the one playing the Good Cop to Sergeant Donovan's Bad Cop. He shakes the other man's hand.]

Solomons from Camden Town. What are you in the business of, apart from the occasional homicide, then?

[devoutish]

Here, or at home?

[excellentpoliceman]

Home's a universe away. How about here?

[devoutish]

Supplying. My mate and I, we gather things from houses in untraveled areas, and bring them to the explorers who need them.

[excellentpoliceman]

Very community-minded of you. Making up for the homicides or just looking to get out?

[devoutish]

Looking to get out. Yes.

[He very rarely feels guilty for the murders he commits.]

[excellentpoliceman]

Well, as long as we've got a common goal and a common enemy. [He hooks a thumb toward the windows where the Easter bunny anomaly is still lurking.] We should be good, yeah? Keep ourselves busy on the right things.

[devoutish]

Mm. Are you trying to reassure yourself, or me?

[excellentpoliceman]

I'm letting you know I've got a pair of handcuffs, a knife, and I'm not too bothered collaring someone here if they're making a nuisance of themselves where I can see it. Take that as reassurance either way, Mr. Solomons.

[devoutish]

Am I being a nuisance?

[excellentpoliceman]

Nope. Just letting you know to keep it that way.

[devoutish]

Or you'd put me in handcuffs, and... then what? Have you thought about it beyond that?
