Network Prompts ONE: THE FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE Whether or not you were aiming for this to happen, you've ended up in Downtown's Toy Store for the night. Right away, it gives you a creepy sort of vibe. There's even a doll staring up at you from the doorway when you come inside, discarded and lonely on the floor. It has no eyelids or eyelashes, its too-lifelike eyes precariously stuck onto dark hollows. Its mouth a despondant, stitched-on frown. Ingoring it, though, nothing particularly odd seems to happen--at first. It isn't until you sleep when a sinking feeling jolts you from your slumber. It's not hard to figure out where the soruce of the unease is coming from: the doll from earlier is laying just inches away from your face. When you sit up, you realize that it's not the only one: every doll has moved from the shelves and surrounded your sleeping body in a neat circle. All of their eyes are sunken. All of their mouths are turned into frowns. Maybe you'll have an easier time getting back to sleep if you can find someone on the network to talk it out with. TWO: IT BLEEDS Something's wrong with the wallpaper in this house. You're not sure exactly what it is, but it makes your head dizzy to be around it for too long. If it's affecting you this badly, it's possible that other people might have the same problem in the future, so it would probably be a good idea just to take it down. Only, when you pull at the first piece, it's not just the wallpaper that pulls away from the wall...but the skin of your arm, which breaks open in a long scratch. It isn't deep enough to draw blood, but certainly enough to feel raw and uncomfortable. It would be a good idea to stop what you're doing and reach out for some medical advice. Action Prompts THREE: THE QUIET GAME You and your traveling compaion have found shelter at the library. It's a nice, spacious building with plenty of comforable places to sleep and books to occupy your time, so at first this seems like a fine place to spend your time. Only, you can't shake the feeling that someone else is here with you. And everytime you talk too loudly, a fierce shhh passes between your ears, passing a shiver down your spine. Eventually, you hear a slithering voice whisper no talking in the library, and a pinch stabs at the corner of your mouth. Your companion can hear it too...right? FOUR: PICTURESQUE Not too long ago, you found a jigsaw puzzle. The pieces were all stored in a plain box, so you weren't sure what the picture was meant to be. You've been having a slow night, so while your traveling companion tries to get some sleep, you decide to see if you can solve it. Only...you start to notice something familiar about the setting as it unfolds before you. Piece by piece, it becomes clear: it's something from home, something only you should know. You have to show your traveling companion--only when they go to look for themselves, all that's left is a square of white paper where the puzzle once was. But that can't be right, can it?

[chaos is slumped against the wall, less sleeping than feigning sleep. He hovers somewhere near dreaming and in his dreams he's back in the stars and can feel the universe flow around him. He feels the warm familiarity of his powers in his limbs. Not the full frightening power he had in ancient times but the lingering inhuman energy he's carried for millenia now.

He's about to drift off into the flow when a voice comes through the darkness and he shakes his head back into wakefulness.]

Hm?

[He looks up at Manuel.]

I am. What's up?

[standing_waters]

Sorry to wake you.

*He smiles, a bit sheepishly. Its clear from his voice that he's on edge.*

Can you look at something with me?

[cosmicwords]

[chaos rises to his feet, seeing the worried look on his companion's face.]

Of course.

Great, thanks.

*He heads over to where he left the puzzle...but now its nothing but a white paper? Or had the illusion just worn off?

He points at the paper.*

What do you see?

[chaos gazes questioningly into Manuel's eyes, then looks down at the paper.]

I see nothing.

[He picks the sheet of paper up in his gloved hands and stares at it. As far as he can tell, it's ordinary paper.]

Just paper.

*So whatever he'd seen wasn't there. But why was it gone, did his moving break the spell? And why was it suddenly a piece of paper instead of a jigsaw puzzle?
Man, this place gave him a headache.*

It wasn't that a moment ago...but, uh, thanks. I guess you can get back to sleep. Sorry to bother you.

It wasn't?

Did you see something?

[He gingerly sets the paper back down.]

Yeah...it wasn't a piece of paper, either. I found a puzzle awhile back, a jigsaw puzzle. It was that until I went to get you.

....A jigsaw puzzle?

[He looks down at the paper thoughtfully.]

Why would it just disappear?

I don't know...what it pictured wasn't normal either.

Oh...

[chaos smiles weakly and rubs the back of his head.]

In a place like this I guess it wasn't a nice picture of a lake or anything like that, huh?

It wasn't anything terrible it was just...unsettling. Something that shouldn't have been there.

Something of mine.

This place does seem to enjoy showing us things.

[He sits by the wall again.]

I will admit, I am curious what it showed you but you do not have to tell me if you don't want to.

Something personal. I don't know if its important or not.

*He picks up the piece of paper and turns it over.*

I don't suppose you've heard of this sort of thing happening here before, have you?

Not this exactly, no.

[He waves a hand through the air.]

But the forces behind Norfinbury do sometimes play with our senses.

[Even his own senses are confounded by the power here, which bothers him a bit.]

It's...just something you learn to live with, while you're here.

*He nods.*

Still, there are likely to be some patterns. Though I guess this isn't one of them.

*How does he ask "are you also hallucinating" without sounding terrible...?*

How do you mean?

I mean if you haven't heard of this sort of thing--the disappearing puzzle, that is--before its probably not a pattern. Unless its the begining of one.

Well...it could be part of the pattern of hallucinations, couldn't it?

Those take on many forms.

[He thinks. Have there been any other jigsaw puzzle related incidents?

...No, he decides, not that he can recall.]

I guess. What do you know of other times people started hallucinating here?

I've hallucinated a few times.

[He'll admit to it.]

Sometimes everyone seems to share in the same illusion at once.

But that's clearly not what's happening here.

*Hmmm*

Unless the puzzle was real and this piece of paper isn't. Though, I admit, I have no idea how we'd tell which is which.

[A small laugh.]

Well, now that you mention it, it being real is still a possibility.

The spiders like to clean things up when nobody's looking. I took a whole room apart once and it was intact again the very next day, like I hadn't even been there.

Maybe they took the puzzle when you came to wake me.
