Network Prompts
ONE: THE FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE
Whether or not you were aiming for this to happen, you've ended up in Downtown's Toy Store for the night. Right away, it gives you a creepy sort of vibe. There's even a doll staring up at you from the doorway when you come inside, discarded and lonely on the floor. It has no eyelids or eyelashes, its too-lifelike eyes precariously stuck onto dark hollows. Its mouth a despondant, stitched-on frown.

Ingoring it, though, nothing particularly odd seems to happen--at first. It isn't until you sleep when a sinking feeling jolts you from your slumber. It's not hard to figure out where the soruce of the unease is coming from: the doll from earlier is laying just inches away from your face. When you sit up, you realize that it's not the only one: every doll has moved from the shelves and surrounded your sleeping body in a neat circle. All of their eyes are sunken. All of their mouths are turned into frowns.

Maybe you'll have an easier time getting back to sleep if you can find someone on the network to talk it out with.

TWO: IT BLEEDS
Something's wrong with the wallpaper in this house. You're not sure exactly what it is, but it makes your head dizzy to be around it for too long. If it's affecting you this badly, it's possible that other people might have the same problem in the future, so it would probably be a good idea just to take it down. Only, when you pull at the first piece, it's not just the wallpaper that pulls away from the wall...but the skin of your arm, which breaks open in a long scratch. It isn't deep enough to draw blood, but certainly enough to feel raw and uncomfortable.

It would be a good idea to stop what you're doing and reach out for some medical advice.

Action Prompts
THREE: THE QUIET GAME
You and your traveling compaion have found shelter at the library. It's a nice, spacious building with plenty of comforable places to sleep and books to occupy your time, so at first this seems like a fine place to spend your time. Only, you can't shake the feeling that someone else is here with you. And everytime you talk too loudly, a fierce shhh passes between your ears, passing a shiver down your spine. Eventually, you hear a slithering voice whisper no talking in the library, and a pinch stabs at the corner of your mouth.

Your companion can hear it too...right?

FOUR: PICTURESQUE
Not too long ago, you found a jigsaw puzzle. The pieces were all stored in a plain box, so you weren't sure what the picture was meant to be. You've been having a slow night, so while your traveling companion tries to get some sleep, you decide to see if you can solve it. Only...you start to notice something familiar about the setting as it unfolds before you. Piece by piece, it becomes clear: it's something from home, something only you should know.

You have to show your traveling companion--only when they go to look for themselves, all that's left is a square of white paper where the puzzle once was. But that can't be right, can it?

You've seen other things, though? There's more of this weird shit here?
termineur: (Whatcha gonna do?)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-05-31 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. Tons of stuff. The worst parts are usually temporary, so get ready for mazes of white walls, everything in the world turning into static, and- my favorite- turning into a monster.

But if you're talking about just places that are creepy, I've seen some of that, too. Altars and graffiti for the Prophet. Raining inside. One place felt like I was getting stuck with needles the entire time I was in there. Fun times.

If you want something inexplicable and not horrible, try heading for Andromeda's house. Talk about stars in there and I'll bet she'll leave you a blanket.
sleight_of_fate: sigh (sigh)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-05-31 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. Haunted house shit. Right. At least that's...sort of familiar.

[The dolls still don't look happy. And he's pretty sure that they've turned their heads to keep an eye on him.]

Thanks for the advice. I've only got a couple things, so I think a blanket would be good. I've seen some signs and directions, but it got cold too fast to go anywhere else before dark.

I'm Rhys, by the way.
termineur: (Crossed arms)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-05-31 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You dealt with haunted houses before? Good, we could use that.

Nice to meet you, Rhys. I'm Gabriel. Sorry your introduction to the place was the creepy toy store and not the porn house. But it's freezing either way, so whatever. You got your coat? Are your shoes good for snow?
sleight_of_fate: argh (argh)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-05-31 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, before my powers vanished, I was an exorcist. Inconvenient timing, huh? But I've got workboots and my coat's okay. As long as I don't try to go out, I'm warm enough.

[He's gotta be kidding.]

The fact that there is a porn house and I'm in the evil toy store is proof that the universe hates me. But other than that, nice to meet you.
termineur: (Convincing)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-05-31 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you'll run across it eventually, don't worry.

Do travel, though. During the day when you can. If you stay too long in one spot, you start getting sick. I've done that, it's not great.

And hey, who's to say we won't need your skills anyway? Sucks about your powers, though. What'd you have? General magic?
sleight_of_fate: Just looking (just looking)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-06-01 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Spirits and healing were my thing, mostly. It's weird here. I feel blind.

[It's strange Gabriel knows about that sort of thing, but on the other hand, he had mentioned monsters...]

I'm used to living in shitty places and I can stitch a bleeding scalp wound, though, so I think I've got a fighting chance. Does the weather ever break, here?
termineur: (Sure)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-06-01 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. It can get worse, actually, so travel while you can.

And yeah, losing my powers feels like losing a limb, so I get it. Sounds like you're more ready than most of us, at least.
sleight_of_fate: Just looking (just looking)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-06-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
You had powers too? That's interesting. I'm not used to that. Other people with powers, I mean. Is that common here?
termineur: (Careful)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-06-01 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Way more common than it is back home. Not everyone had them but maybe about half of us did.

If mine come back, it's bad news, by the way. They make me a little crazy.
sleight_of_fate: Just looking (just looking)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-06-01 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Back home, it was rare as hell. And people don't really believe in it, so it's a big secret.

Do powers come back, here?
termineur: (Sure)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-06-01 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Not so far. It's the nanites, suppressing our 'anomalous properties'. If we get to the end of this and turn off the nanites or gain control of them, we can probably get our powers back.

It's a huge secret where I'm from, too, the special abilities. But more and more people are starting to have them, so who knows how long that'll last?
sleight_of_fate: blargh (blargh)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-06-01 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's nice to know that there's an end to this, at least. Possibly.

In our world at least, some of the stuff that's in hiding is hiding for REALLY good reasons. Like, "people are delicious" reasons. I've had the shit beaten out of me for being queer, if people thought I wasn't human I don't think it would be any better.
termineur: (Talk)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-06-02 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's all hope and optimism. But it helps, assuming we're going to make it out of here.

[ Al had changed his mind on that one. ]

Ah. You've got some magical predators? Like vampires or something? Then I definitely get it. It's a bad idea to tell the people you're going to eat that you exist.

At least it's no big deal here. We've got vampires and a talking cat and everything.
sleight_of_fate: Just looking (just looking)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-06-03 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, hope and optimism is the best you got.

[He thinks about that for a minute, alone in the chilly, silent store. It's not the first prison he's been in.]

Yeah, exactly like vampires. Shifters, demons, bunch of other bad shit. Nasty stuff that you could call spirits, too. And people don't really like to believe in that, you know? Easier to sleep at night.

[...Rhys wants to meet the talking cat now, though...]
termineur: (Default)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-06-04 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've noticed most people would rather not know about that sort of thing. Even if it's staring them in the face.

Sounds like you're used to it, though. That'll be a big help around here. Really big help. I've got a theory that whoever's bringing us here is at least trying for people with specific skills. We're a pretty diverse group, as it turns out.
sleight_of_fate: cute (Default)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-06-05 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it feels familiar here, in a fucked-up way. I probably get to skip the "crying and peeing" stage of adjustment and go right to breaking shit.

[He's looking at you, dolls. And still wondering if you'll burn.]

I don't know if I could believe this place happened by accident. Unless I died somehow and wound up here. Other people that know what they're doing? That's helpful. Even if it's creepy to think there's a plan behind it. IS there anything but snow here?
termineur: (Convincing)

[personal profile] termineur 2017-06-05 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a good stage to skip. But just so you know- I've heard some things retaliate.

Yeah, pretty much nothing but snow. One of the major theories is nuclear winter. I'd be completely unsurprised if that's what we're living in here.

Other people seem to have unique skills. We've got more doctors than you would expect and a number of people from worlds nearly as harsh as this. We try to help each other out, because that seems like the only way any of us are going to get anywhere.
