TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: TIME TO CHECK WEBMD
You've found the pharmacy, which is really convenient, since you're not feeling that great. Actually, you're feeling terrible. Maybe you have a fever, maybe you're coughing up blood, maybe you're vomiting... Whatever it is, you should probably try to get some medicine for it. Well, if you can figure out what it is. Maybe someone on the network can help you out? Alternately, you know exactly what you have--but for whatever reason, the medicine here isn't something you can easily understand. You have to choose between a couple of options, and you don't know the difference. Hopefully someone on the network can tell you which will heal you and which will probably kill you.

TWO: NOT SO HELPFUL AVATARS
Every tablet has the option for a customizable avatar that will talk to you and keep your tablet in order. Maybe you set it up, maybe you never checked it. Either way, it keeps popping up unrequested and being sort of... Odd. Flickering, talking in strange, mechanical voices, offering advice that's unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst... Maybe it's even telling the entire network some things you've been doing you'd rather everyone didn't know.

Time to call tech support. Unfortunately, the best option is other people on the network. Good luck.

Action Prompts
THREE: SCHOOL DAYS
You've ended up in the elementary school. Maybe you're grabbing more food, maybe you're exploring. Either way, this place is creepy; the atmosphere is the sort that gets the hair on the back of your neck rising (potentially metaphorically, if you don't have hair or a neck). It's not long before strange things start happening. The sound of running and screaming children, doors slamming in far off or nearby hallways, pianos playing... What's going on? It's hard to tell what's really happening from what isn't happening. Maybe someone who's also exploring has some idea.

FOUR: SUPPLY SCRAMBLE
You've just walked into a house, and look, there's fresh fruit sitting right out on the counter! How long has it been since you've had some of that? It'll definitely help provide some much-needed vitamins and maybe it will ward off scurvy and the like. There's even more than one piece!

...And there's more than one person here, too. So, what are you going to do? Are you willing to share, or are you prepared to stab someone over a pear? Time to find out just how badly you want that food.

[he's not the only one having Room Problems. As she falls in behind him, she thinks she hears something lightly brush against the music stands, but when she glances back, she doesn't see anything. At least they're almost to the Exit sign.]

You're—you're insufferable. Well—all right, then it's my turn. What were those pills you took? Vica... Vi-whatever-you-called-them. What are they for?

[if he took some kind of weird drug while she has to look after him she swears to god]
rubikscomplex: (pills | fiddle)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-08-29 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Gosh! Starting right in with her personal questions. [It's not actually something he cares about hiding all that much, at least. His head does turn toward the sound near the stands, but he just tries to hurry it up a little more. It's not a great deal faster, but they're at the Exit sign door soon enough, and House is pushing the bar to get it open.

Leading onto a stairwell. The mocking note drops from his voice, at least.]

Vicodin. Pain meds.

[Why did it have to be stairs? He'd found a ramp earlier. But he's stubborn, and he'd pointedly told her he's not being carried. House moves to the stairs, grasps the railing and starts down slowly.]

Why are you still playing knight in a place like this?
lancingintherain: art by me (i'll just wait out here)

[personal profile] lancingintherain 2015-08-29 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[she can see he wasn't lying about trouble with stairs. His pace is painfully slow for her, but she doesn't crowd him, and follows patiently. She's fine covering behind them—and feels pretty sure she could jump clear over his head, anyway, if something burst in to attack them from the front.]

[she aims another sharp look at the back of his head.]

I'm still a knight, no matter where I am. And I'm certainly not playing.

What about you, then? What are you, where you come from? Aside from a pain in the arse. Maybe that's what "Dúnadan" means.

rubikscomplex: (smug | told you so)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-08-30 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Uh huh. So, is the Renaissance Faire business just that good to make it a full time career? [As far as House is concerned, that's where 'knights' are confined to these days. And now the sarcasm is back.] Killer costume.

[He does have to smirk at her snipe.] It actually means 'Man of the West.' I'm a wizard. Pinball wizard. There was some deaf, dumb, and blind kid at the top out there, but I kicked his ass. Probably for the best. He was starting a cult and you know how those go.

Are there other 'Burmecians' wandering around here, or are you the only one?

baymaxing: (That you're the antidote)

[personal profile] baymaxing 2015-08-30 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
well. months are possibly more tolerable to miss than outright years. no idea how this works, exactly. but it isn't like we've figured a way back.

[Not. That he intends to potentially ever mention the fact of Tadashi's death and how that would obviously change things in that of course nobody would have noticed him missing after the explosion and his funeral. Depending on the timing. Still has yet to meet with his brother and doesn't want to bring up the timing yet.]

2005 is probably among the closest timelines to mine so far, honestly.
rubikscomplex: (suspicious | sideways)

[House glances down at the message for a long moment. If this is a joke, Hiro's delivery is deadpan to the point that even he is having trouble determining if the guy is being serious. He keeps his tone light and flippant as he responds.

Is Hiro delusional? Working off some special, Japanese calendar?]

Everybody else from the 18th century?
baymaxing: (Not a soul to betray)

[personal profile] baymaxing 2015-08-30 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
well, seems people are brought here from various times. hard to really pin down much of a pattern, but we are trying. made a post with these tablets to get some basic information on people, including what year it was back home. it's just me and tadashi from 2032 though. 18th century is like, what, the 1700s or whatever, right? not sure if there's anyone from then, need to check.

[Ding ding ding ding.]

Fair point. I'm not entirely certain that it's a good thing myself. Fortunately, there are productive ways to make the most out of potentially horrible situations!

If you catch my meaning.
lancingintherain: art by me (ANOTHER RANDOM ENCOUNTER)

dude your House is a work of art, im dying

[personal profile] lancingintherain 2015-08-30 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[either those pills weren't for pain and he's actually tripping balls after all, or his life story is really that bizarre and incoherent. Or, option C, and the likeliest: he's messing with her. Of course, she doesn't know how much of it really could be true, but in that tone of voice? Probably not all of it. She decides to return the favor.]

Oh, yes. There's loads of us. There's a little Qu settlement down in that cave system to the South, too. It's colder here than their native climate, but they're a hardy sort of people.

[she grabs the railing harder than necessary as they descend, her claws clicking against the metal.]

Plenty of humans about, too, if you'd prefer the company of your own kind. Although I doubt they'd prefer you.

wait, what? look i know food isn't something that easy to figure but we've been managing fine. the convenience stores restock so if you are hungry go check there. we kind of need everyone to help out if we want to get through this. and when i'm saying that you know we're pretty screwed.
rubikscomplex: (srs | considering)

Unless I missed the Delorean out on the frozen pond, you realize that's impossible, right? Like... I don't mean to harsh your groove, bro, but they were probably all lying.

[Like house is assuming Hiro is lying. Why he might be lying is beyond him, but hey. Why comes after the recognition that everybody lies.]
baymaxing: (Is all it will take)

[personal profile] baymaxing 2015-08-30 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
what, back to the future? man that's old. but. no, pretty sure you saying you're from 2005 and me being from 2032 is proof enough. let alone the others. most of them seem to have next to no idea on technology around here because they're from so early on in comparison.

[Which is. Just sad, honestly. Hiro could hardly imagine being without his tech. It's been hard enough here with just the tablets, let alone a world without it at all full stop.]
rubikscomplex: (childish | girlfriend pls)

THANK YOU! I'm having so much fun. Your Freya is fantastic and I just want to pet her and apologize.

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-08-30 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Nice. [The way he says it would indicate that he's mocking Freya. Also, if she made any inquires in that direction, he would be happy to inform her that it is entirely possible for pain pills to have you tripping balls. That's what makes these ones particularly fun. And why she'd warranted a two-pill dose.]

You know why goody-two-shoes make crap liars? Because you don't get enough practice. Everybody lies, but some people lie more than others.

How's it feel being the only Burmecian for miles? [He glances up at her as he reaches the first little platform and heads for the second set of stairs down to the bottom floor proper.] Lonely? We're all alone here, though. Is that why you're still acting like a knight? Think if you pretend your world hasn't been pulled out from under you, you can make it all right?
rubikscomplex: (possibility | or maybe)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-08-30 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I was sort of assuming you were lying, too. You know. For the joke.

[Which he's still assuming is there. Guy's good if he's keeping things up at this point. Or he's pathetic.] If you're going to say you're from the future, though, dare to dream and go big. 2132 sounds way cooler than 2032.

And what's the average age-range around here? I'm guessing over 65 if most other people can't figure out a tablet. Geriatric snowpocalypse. Cool.
baymaxing: (Living a dream)

[personal profile] baymaxing 2015-08-30 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
not saying i don't have a sense of humor, but. nope. any one of us that's been here any length of time longer than you showing up could confirm what i'm saying here. but sure, i could do that. just to mess with people. i mean tadashi would probably smack me over the head and correct me but still.

as for the age-range, it varies i think. but kind of hard to tell when not everyone around here is exactly human so. i'm not sure.

[He'll keep that in mind though. 2132 totally does sound way more awesome. Kind of harder to mess with people when his brother would likely hover around and stalk his activity with the tablet and not let the younger Hamada out of his sight in person, but still.]

well as curious as i am about this you'll have to borrow someone else's tablet to get a copy of the code, call me eccentric but i like my privacy

nice assumption btw that i haven't survived shit like this. getting distracted by misinformation & crap can kill you just as dead as anything else

Well! If they're proving to be more effort than they're worth and not thinking for the betterment of the group, I am going to have to beg to differ. I would much rather have a small group of useful men, as opposed to a large group of lazy cattle, wouldn't you?

That said, I probably should inform you that I would never resort to the filthy and irredeemable practice of eating another man. Gods, what do you take me for? Some kind of monster?

[Don't be ridiculous, Hiro. He just forces people to undergo horrifically twisted hunts for sport! And then flays them alive. So much more redeemable.]
vesicant: credit cards (on my speeding heart)

[personal profile] vesicant 2015-08-30 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, that was open? Looked blocked to me. [Well, that and the fact that going in by a main entrance means you're more likely to be seen coming and going. Old habits die hard.] Whatever, sure, that'll be easier going. Lead the way.

[re: icing the ankle, Meg shrugs and makes a vague "I guess so?" gesture. it's not really something she's had to think about for a while.] Ehh... your shed was probably warmer, honestly. Bigass buildings like this are all drafts --

[as if in agreement, a gust of wind sweeps down the hallway, rattling every door and locker on the way. Meg is pretty sure it's just wind, anyway. She halts and turns back to the stairwell too, almost daring something to appear.]

So... what... was up there, exactly?

Uh, word to the wise. Next time you find a cache like that, maybe don't advertise the location so publicly. Not everyone out there's so nice.

[it's very possible the speaker is one of those not-so-nice ones. to be completely honest, she's less planning a theft (at least, not until tests the waters and she sees who else responds) and more cringing in secondhand... something. to her, all that earnest altruism is just begging to be eaten alive.]

My, what mistrust. Are you truly such an remarkable person that whatever secrets you have on your tablet will be of greater interest to me than gathering insight into our situation? A very suspicious assertion. Perhaps I should be the concerned party.

[Not much chance of that. But Aizen knows what he would have done if he were the responsible party behind their current predicament, and hiding himself in plain sight is the first item on the list.]

All information has the potential to be useful. Even misinformation comes from somewhere and serves a purpose, as your experience has no doubt taught you.

[Don't mind him, he'll just keep baiting.]

Sure, people have souls, but...

[But she doesn't quite get where he's going with this, because she is a dumb sixteen-year-old who knows nothing.] That's more of an afterlife kind of thing... I think.

[The confusion is still strong with this one.]

I've never heard of a doctor who could treat people who didn't have bodies.

Well... there was a lot of snow.

[She gingerly takes a step forward and makes a face when a shot of pain runs up her leg from her ankle. This is going to be unpleasant. Her first impulse is to call for Hak and demand that he carry her, but she hasn't been able to find him anywhere. Not in this building, not on the network, and not in any of the other buildings she's passed through, either.

They'll make a slow and steady progress toward the central wing, though. Yona thinks she knows where she's going. She hopes she's right, because the last thing she wants is to lead them into more trouble.]

...it was like... a massive bunch of shadows. But it had teeth and glowing eyes...

[As she speaks, she realizes how childish it sounds and pouts a little.]

Mass hallucination's looking more and more likely here, then. [Hiro will hear the sound of something popping, then a rattle in the pause that follows. This conversation calls for a Vicodin. Clearly. At least Hiro isn't warranting two of them. For now.]

So, what age-range are you? I'm guessing... 13? Most guys past their teens don't worry about their big brothers smacking them over the head for screwing around with people. Also, Back to the Future is classic, not old.

[House is just going to focus in on the part of this conversation that doesn't make him want to throw up his hands. It's clearly a mass hallucination that Hiro believes at the moment, and he doesn't want to bang his head against that wall until he can find something to limit the effects.]

[Unfortunately, Clementine is still unsure on who janedoe is, or else she'd pretty soon be changing the subject to other matters. The name is familiar, of course, though she can't believe it could be the Jane she knows.

She hopes not, anyway... for a bunch of reasons.
]

that figures.

i've seen it do worse though. even if that is pretty annoying.
