Network Prompts ONE: TIME TO CHECK WEBMD You've found the pharmacy, which is really convenient, since you're not feeling that great. Actually, you're feeling terrible. Maybe you have a fever, maybe you're coughing up blood, maybe you're vomiting... Whatever it is, you should probably try to get some medicine for it. Well, if you can figure out what it is. Maybe someone on the network can help you out? Alternately, you know exactly what you have--but for whatever reason, the medicine here isn't something you can easily understand. You have to choose between a couple of options, and you don't know the difference. Hopefully someone on the network can tell you which will heal you and which will probably kill you. TWO: NOT SO HELPFUL AVATARS Every tablet has the option for a customizable avatar that will talk to you and keep your tablet in order. Maybe you set it up, maybe you never checked it. Either way, it keeps popping up unrequested and being sort of... Odd. Flickering, talking in strange, mechanical voices, offering advice that's unhelpful at best and actively harmful at worst... Maybe it's even telling the entire network some things you've been doing you'd rather everyone didn't know. Time to call tech support. Unfortunately, the best option is other people on the network. Good luck. Action Prompts THREE: SCHOOL DAYS You've ended up in the elementary school. Maybe you're grabbing more food, maybe you're exploring. Either way, this place is creepy; the atmosphere is the sort that gets the hair on the back of your neck rising (potentially metaphorically, if you don't have hair or a neck). It's not long before strange things start happening. The sound of running and screaming children, doors slamming in far off or nearby hallways, pianos playing... What's going on? It's hard to tell what's really happening from what isn't happening. Maybe someone who's also exploring has some idea. FOUR: SUPPLY SCRAMBLE You've just walked into a house, and look, there's fresh fruit sitting right out on the counter! How long has it been since you've had some of that? It'll definitely help provide some much-needed vitamins and maybe it will ward off scurvy and the like. There's even more than one piece! ...And there's more than one person here, too. So, what are you going to do? Are you willing to share, or are you prepared to stab someone over a pear? Time to find out just how badly you want that food.

Mass hallucination's looking more and more likely here, then. [Hiro will hear the sound of something popping, then a rattle in the pause that follows. This conversation calls for a Vicodin. Clearly. At least Hiro isn't warranting two of them. For now.]

So, what age-range are you? I'm guessing... 13? Most guys past their teens don't worry about their big brothers smacking them over the head for screwing around with people. Also, Back to the Future is classic, not old.

[House is just going to focus in on the part of this conversation that doesn't make him want to throw up his hands. It's clearly a mass hallucination that Hiro believes at the moment, and he doesn't want to bang his head against that wall until he can find something to limit the effects.]

not entirely wrong there, either. i mean, there was one thing a few days back with a major storm where we were seeing things.

[For Hiro? Of course he hallucinated that the place was on fire. More a wonder it hadn't happened prior for cabin fever, staying in the place for days before.]

fourteen, actually. and you wouldn't say that if you had to deal with tadashi, okay. not saying i don't like the films. it's just old.

[But a lot of things House enjoys Hiro probably considers old. Don't get him started on video games.]

[House narrows his eyes at the mention of the hallucination. Tadashi can wait. This sounds important. At the very least, his tone and demeanor don't change the slightest with knowing Hiro's age. Age has never mattered to House unless it's medically relevant, after all.]

What things were you seeing? Everyone was hallucinating at once, or just you?

can't say for everyone. but for me? i was the place i was staying in on fire. but i think it was a lot of us if not all of us during the storm. got worse over the course of the day. that's when i left and shifted to the other building nearby.

[Glad this is over text on his end because fire still terrifies him in the aftermath of the expo back home and all. But it is a relief that House doesn't seem to care on his age. That detail has so far more often than not had others all the more worried over him.]

[14-year-olds who can hustle at bot fights clearly have game. And it would be unconscionable, worrying more about one person than another. House is really an equal opportunities kind of carer. Obviously.]

Pyrophobic? Or did you just get lucky with an hallucination turning something useful here dangerous? [Because he could go for a fire right now. Maybe not a whole house fire, but a fire.]

pyrophobic? i hadn't actually thought about it as an actual diagnosis before you mentioned it. but there was a fire back home, so that. probably explains mine at least?

[Fire is good when under controlled conditions. But Hiro's now a little terrified of starting one himself even under such conditions as a result.]

'Grats, Hiro! You have gotten House serious for more than five seconds. You are a true hero.

Anyone here apart from big brother who knows about the fire? Actual big brother, I mean. Not Big Brother. This would be a crap reality TV show. Unless there's a hidden hot springs the girls are meant to find. Alternatively, it's not doing bad for a dystopian future.

If it's personalized, that means our admin knows something about us if it's something they're physically manipulating. Which makes sense. Better to get papers on the lab rats you're collecting. On the other hand, drugs designed to induce hysteria, confusion, and generally stimulate the amygdala fit, too. Stick someone in a box and rattle them around long enough, they'll figure out their own fears to project.

Do you remember smelling anything strange before the hallucination set in. Did you eat or drink anything you hadn't before?

it's not something i'd mentioned before now, no. so i don't think anyone else would know.

[Unless Tadashi mentioned something. But it is more something Hiro's avoiding talking on than bringing up to figure how much his brother knows. Regardless, the mention on hot springs gets a bit of an eyeroll, even if the warmth would be appreciated.]

i guess that's possible though. the only supplies we have are what they provide us so. the food and water we have could be drugged or something for all i know.

Fire back home equals paper trail. [House relaxes against the wall in the house he's cooped up in, looking up toward the ceiling and letting his mind start to turn.] It's a leap for anyone to get to pyrophobia from that... Were you injured in the fire?

You said you moved houses, though. Did the hallucinations persist there?

[Paper trail. It would hardly be a secret if the admin were to find records back home. See Tadashi and Callaghan's death notices and make the connection, potentially. Even now, after months and somewhat becoming more accepting of the fact, seeing Tadashi here just in a way brings all that guilt and pain back.]

i wasn't hurt in it, no.

[He could have been. Was trying to run in after Tadashi when the building exploded. It's not hard to figure Hiro's being evasive. Not because he doesn't want to help and theorize, but this is becoming more personal.]

wasn't at the next building nearly as long. might have something to do with it.

[Unfortunately, House is the last person Hiro wants to talk to if he's looking to evade.]

Airborne chemical's looking more likely. Something in the housing. Might be they can adjust the dose through the vent systems, feed more in the longer someone stays in a place or just when they're feeling extra bitchy. Forces us to stay on the move, prevents congregating when people have trouble meeting up in time.

[And now that that minor theory is on the table, time to the personal stuff.]

So, someone you were close to injured in that fire back home? Someone, like, say... an older brother?

[It's a complete shot in the dark, but Tadashi is the only person Hiro's mentioned so far from home.]

[Sorry, House. All the rest kind of goes out the window because he hasn't even mentioned the fire to anyone else. Let alone that the other actually guesses about what happened to Tadashi. It takes him a moment to calm enough to eventually reply. Which explains it all in just one word to confirm the other genius's guess.]

[There's a drawn out silence on House's end. He doesn't really need to hear Hiro's voice to know what tone that word is being delivered in. Makes sense, then, why the kid talks about deferring to big brother #2. At least House is assuming this is another brother apart from Tadashi.

When he speaks, it's somewhat awkward, but sincere.]

I'm sorry.

[Thank god this isn't audio or visual on Hiro's end. House really doesn't want to deal with someone crying if he is crying. Pressing on, now. He also would prefer that Hiro not 'open up' to him.]

If what they're using is coming in through the ventilation system, there might be a way to get at it if we can find a screwdriver or crowbar or something else to get into the ducts.

[Maybe admitting it should help. Maybe it would piece together more clues or provide the urge for more answers if Hiro did specify. But even that much is difficult enough.]

not your fault. heard mention of people trying to find a screwdriver. not sure if they have actually managed or not though.

Hiro's just going for gold. Srs House AND getting him to apologize unprompted. What next?

i can double check and get back to you with the specifics if you want. pretty sure everyone's just hoarding anything that might prove useful at this point. and a screwdriver would totally fall under that. even if it is something stupidly basic that people usually have like, multiples of.

Well, since you're offering. [It's nice to have a minion who's offering to do the legwork for him. Saves the trouble of having to read back through a lot of useless chatter. He had seen that was possible here. What riveting conversations he can envision. 'It's cold.' 'Where is everyone?' 'I'm hungry.']

Sure. Get back to me. I'll keep my eyes out for things to hoard and not mention, too. Somebody told me you people were all 'working together.' Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. No one's going to be that generous in snow hell.
