Network Prompts
ONE: A DENTIST'S FIELD DAY
Frozen food and convenience store snacks have not been kind on your teeth. You’ve gone so far without any real problems, but one false bite and you hear a definite crack. If that wasn’t enough, the pain floods your jaw almost instantly, and it only gets worse as the day goes on. If you hoped it was a false alarm, those hopes are getting thinner by the minute. It’s just your luck that you don’t know where the closest doctor is. Fortunately, there’s plenty of ice to keep the swelling down, but you’re hoping for some sort of immediate relief. At least so you can get a bit of sleep without the throbbing keep you awake and uncomfortable.

Maybe someone else can give you some advice. Or at the very least, maybe someone can distract you from your toothache. Or maybe, upon further inspection, you find that there was never a toothache at all. Maybe the pain is suddenly gone as if it was never there to begin with.

TWO: THAT'S A MOUTHFUL
As far as Norfinbury goes, you've gone about your day with relative ease. Nothing's been more unusual than any other day, and you can't say that you've had any particular difficulties. Maybe you've even been productive or had some good finds in your searches. Finally, though, as you settle down for the night, something you come across on the Network...isn't quite right. The glitch doesn’t make itself known until you start to talk to someone through the video function, and even then, it doesn’t seem to happen with everyone. When it does appear, however, it’s impossible to ignore.

Something is wrong with the video feed. Everything appears like dark, angry static--everything except for the person’s mouth. Their mouth is too big, too painfully clear, moving too fast and too erratically for the things that they’re saying. And the longer you watch, the more you feel the sound of their teeth clanking together echoing echoing echoing inside of your head. It would be pretty rude to cut off the conversation when you don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this same problem, but you can’t take it forever. Maybe you can do a hard reset on this video chat. Or maybe, for the more curious-minded, you can trigger the glitch again.

Action Prompts
THREE: THE TOOTH FAIRY
Something is making its way toward you: an anomaly. From a distance, it seems human...almost human. But then it gets closer, closer, and it appears more and more wrong. It’s a creature made entirely of teeth. Gnashing, gnawing, churning, biting teeth. Its eyes are mouths, its mouth is a vortex of pearly whites reaching deeper and deeper inward into its own body. Its skin seems to keep moving as its teeth seek sustenance. It’s hungry, and it’s coming after you. You and your traveling companion may not have too much trouble getting into a building before lockdown, but there’s no guarantee it’ll leave you be the moment the door is closed behind you.

In fact, you may want to keep an eye on the windows.

FOUR: DECKED IN PEARLS
You notice right away that something’s wrong with the house that you and your traveling companion have wound up in, but with lockdown upon you there isn’t time to worry about it until you’re already stuck inside. At first it seems that the place is decorated in an interesting, indiscernible pattern. Upon further inspection, however, you find that each inch of every wall has been covered in rows and rows of human teeth. There are human teeth in jars, human teeth knit into blinds, human teeth glued into the furniture. They can’t really be real, can they? There’s just so many.

But, hey, maybe if you have insomnia, you can try to count them for laughs.

[At the sight of actual help, she slows down and blinks, a smile of genuine gratitude coming over her face. Even if it's a bit sheepish.

Not an android. There's real, human intelligence in there. And a few human parts left, though not a lot. Technology is great.

The word you're looking for is cyborg.]

Hey. Uh, hi.

Even if it doesn't get fixed, I'm okay with doing without a tooth. That's not a big deal.

What's messing me up is, it hurts. Like a real tooth. It shouldn't do that. My jaw isn't even real, either.

Like, I don't even know what that candy bar was made of to do that. Seriously.

[ Right, cyborg. He knew android wasn't the right word, but it was the only thing coming to mind. ]

Hi. Well, this place can mess with you. It has a way of making you feel things you never thought you would, so maybe it's something along those lines.

[ There's a second's pause. ]

If your teeth and your jaw aren't real- I know this is going to sound strange, but what are they, then? Do painkillers have any effect on you?

Oh. Yeah. I mean, I take stuff, and sometimes I get it mainlined in through my ports when I really need it. There's still real, original parts in here, so pain's pain. I get phantom pain, too?

The jaw and teeth are carbon fiber, ceramic, and high-density duraplast, though. I was in an accident and there wasn't really much bio material to work with, easier to just put it all back together with Des-shaped pieces instead.

[She doesn't sound bothered at all.]

You don't keep up with biotech much, huh?

Wow. I mean, I'm sorry. You're just- Blowing my mind a little right now.

I know about it, and I know it's got its usefulness, but it's just in its infancy where I'm from. [ Or maybe he should say "when". ]

It's all implants and smaller scale things like that. We're not even at the point of using it to create- To augment people.

Huh.

[That's interesting, and makes her stop to think.]

I know back in the day, replacements were total deadwood. No neural interface, no tactile capabilities, just kinda...stuck on. That was decades ago, though. My whole corp is dedicated to implant 'ware, it's like 80% of their biz. Global market shares, though the Japanese got some crazy stuff going too. Heard they're pushing next-gen, but they can't quite jump the gap yet. No one wants to sign up to be a head in a jar, scan it?

...needless to say, they gave me a huge discount considering I got mangled on the job. Talk about benefits, right? It needs regular tune-ups, though.

And if it breaks on a damn, say, candy bar, I can try and fix it myself but probably only like, patch it at best.
