TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW...
Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.

TWO: CABIN FEVER
Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING
You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.

FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING
You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

Desunii Lando. [What are you stupid?] Who doesnt know what Desunii Lando is? Its the happiest place on Earth with lots of mice and cartoons. Where the dreams of children come true. Ya-ho! [The most unenthused 'ya-ho!' that was ever enunciated.] You haven't lived if you haven't dreamt of visiting the Mouse's House.

My spirit would shine brighter if my balls were not so busy making a retreat into my body! [He sucks in a breath through his teeth.] Blue. Blue, they might be turning blue. I'm too scared to look!

But. [Back to business...?] It is an amateurs mistake to make a story with no meaningful plot and a bunch of guys with cold testicles. They should be fired! [He raises his voice, as if the louder his message was - the more likely the creator would hear it.]

[What is money without a soul, huh?!]

You show such dedication to killing a snot-nosed kid! His mother will cry, you know! You'll ruin their family line, you know! All because you got scared. Could you live with yourself when you become such a despicable embodiment of police brutality?

[This guy sounds exactly like a police officer. He was probably a police officer. If he hadn't been before his time in this wasteland - then he has been promoted to one in Gintoki's imagination.]

Oi! If anyone has come across a parfait while reading this, interrupt this guy so you can talk to me instead! My handsome complexion will suffer if I don't get sugar into my system. I will allow you to be the benevolent parfait faerie. What a great title. Very prestigious! Everyone will like you a lot more!

A bad JUMP manga? This protagonist sounds like an appealing, endearing hero who would win lots of popularity polls despite his naturally wavy hair. There is an idea... Someone should take this down! Take notes. It's probably not copyright material in their snow-void.
[The berries have been long forgotten.]

[ there's no change with the look on her face, no change of the attitude she gives off as the witch studies him from her seat. the man doesn't look intimidating, and he certainly sounds far from it with the stuttering, but there are always wolves in sheep's clothing.

standing up on her two heeled feet, bayonetta begins to walk over. hands on her hips, a sway with every step.

[It probably says something about how weird the rest of this place is that George saw the suit of armor in the kitchen and just...accepted it. Not that much stranger than how Jorah is dressed overall and not the sort of conversation George would ever seek intentionally. What a man wears is between him and his skin.

Jorah moves almost as bad as old Crooks. Shame he doesn't have any liniment to offer. Might do his knees some good.]

I reckon so.

[He's more eased at the lack of rise to the topic. It goes further to settle in his mind he's not dealing with a guy with a chip on his shoulder or something to prove.

He pulls his bedroll closer to dig in it for a can of beans. Pulling it free, he sets it in close to the fire, almost close enough to touch the flame. Whatever label may have been there once has been peeled off. The can is plain tin.]

Kinda hard to keep track. Maybe a couple a' weeks or so. Mostly just kept on the move. Hard to find a place worth stayin' in longer than a day or two.

You?

[ Good boy indeed. Helios is just easily flustered and without his magic he's been turned around quite a bit since arriving here. He does nod in reply though a sigh escaping him. ]

Yes, um, I did. I mean this morning it was...6am when I woke up in an unfamiliar cabin with this... [ He'll slowly reach into his jacket pocket to take out the device all of them have been given. ]

Did you arrive this morning too? Ah, I-I never caught your name... [ Right he should probably ask for that, huh? ]

There was a pickle. Tell the truth to the lady with the knife spear or do this the hard way. His mistrustful nature won out without much of a struggle. "Got a boot lace. Jes' as good. Warms me up, too."

He moved over to the fireplace and dug his small pocket knife out to start shaving kindling. He'd need a fine pile of it for this. The furniture bits were better than campfire wood. There was a flat board he could carve out into the notch and shallow shape he needed, and the spindle of a chair back was an ideal shape for looping the lace around once he had it out of his boot.

"Used t' do this all the time on the road." He did it when his matches were wet or he and Lennie ran out between jobs. It required stamina and patience. It was harder in the confines of a fireplace but not impossible. He kept pressure on the spindle and very quickly sawed the lace back and forth, again and again until the pile of kindling around it began smoking. Only when a decent sized plume of smoke curled did he set his make-shift tool aside and begin carefully blowing. He wasn't inclined to conversation during the laborious process, but afterward he sat back on his heels in satisfaction. "There we go. Ain't even fully dark yet."

[Rosethorn's usually a lot more careful about checking buildings for inhabitants or other scavengers before she enters them, but the cold was so much worse today that she rushed the job and missed the obvious. Now she's standing in someone else's house, dripping melting snow on the floor, and feeling like a fool.

Her mouth presses into a line at the tone of the other woman's words, but for once she keeps her words in check. It's a much warmer welcome than what Rosethorn would have given, had their positions been reversed.]

My apologies. If I'd realized anyone else was here, I would have moved on.

[The ability to not be a lazy bum who can't pay his rent. Crucial.]

How could anyone be scared of a bowl of piss!? Are you telling me that scares you? If you're scared of a bowl of pee, you'll never make it. Just kill yourself now.

Doing that to cereal I'm supposed to eat would be considered assault of an officer, so it's not 'police brutality' if I beat them to a pulp!
[Thanks for the promotion? Gintoki, meanwhile, has been demoted to angry screaming child. Not that Hijikata was much better, since he was yelling right back.]

If anyone comes across a parfait while reading this, smash it. Dump it in the snow and use it as bait, or something! Under no circumstances are you to give it to this guy here.

[Reading that final paragraph sealed it. Hijikata's tongue flicked in annoyance at a cigarette that wasn't there.] Oi. What's your name? [Okay, so he was still clinging desperately to one final strand of hope.]

While the details of our experiences may be different, we've noticed an overall pattern. The things I see when I've stopped moving might not be the same things you see, but we see them nonetheless. And it's better not to see them at all.

If you were looking for a more philosophical answer, you'll have to ask someone else.

It's Kuru-nee! Orihara Kururi is her name! And don't be fooled, even though she looks shy, Kuru-nee's probably even more bold than I am!

[She sounds so proud... So proud...]

And also, girls mature sooner than boys so it's just fine! That's also why if boys can't handle my outspoken nature, then they're not worth my time. If anyone knows how to appreciate a mature girl's interests, it's definitely other girls! Girls don't need JUMP to have a good time!

[JUST WHAT IS SHE IMPLYING HERE... She's so blatantly ignoring how gross she sounds that it's hard to tell if she doesn't realize what she's saying or if she really is just that gross.

(It's the latter—she's just that gross.)]

[The wind is just horrid today. Even with the hood up and zipped up all the way, he can feel it biting at his skin. He's got to find shelter for a little while, or he's sure his nose is going to fall off. Spying a small house nearby, he tries looking in the windows, but the dust and grime on them is too thick and he can't see a thing. With a huff, Lea decides to go for broke and gives the door a push, hoping it's not locked.]

Ah--!

[Well the house isn't locked, it's just occupied. The man inside is about the same height as he is, but at least twice as broad, and Lea makes a mildly concerned face. This guy looks like he'd snap him like an Italian breadstick if he made a wrong move. In that case, better not to make the wrong move. Lingering in the doorway, he lifts both hands in something of a placating gesture and shakes his head.]

I'm only a problem when it's conducive to my situation, which definitely wouldn't be the case at the moment. [He jerks a thumb over his shoulder.] The wind, though... that's kind of being a problem. I was interested in getting out of it.

[When she gets there, The Will is pacing the small expanse of the cabin he's been stuck in too long, having a heated conversation with... something. Something that isn't there. Lying Cat kind of looks at him helplessly, and when The Stalk slips in, she goes to rub against her legs immediately with a sort of 'help me' face.

Her voice seems to momentarily jar him.]
Stalk...? Stalk is here. [His eyes flicker desperately to Lying Cat. She stays silent.]

[ The response on the other end of the line is no-nonsense and sure of itself. James is instantly relieved. It's not that he wishes he was - not precisely - but it's that that is the sort of tone that's easy to take up all of one's attention. Ignoring the dragging and scraping outside would be easier with that clipped attitude to bark at him. ]

That's not what I meant, really.

They were both on the floor next to me. Nobody else was in that house--I checked before I left.

[Korra frowns, folding her arms over her chest.]

Don't you think that's suspicious? We turn up in some weird place like this with supplies and something that lets us talk to each other. Sounds to me like someone's expecting something from us.
braavado: (She's even sulkier than usual)

A temper's not going to scare me away, you know. [She shrugs, before remembering he can't see her.] My teacher would tell you I have a temper, too. Used to drive him crazy.

[She's gotten better--or at least, she'd like to think she has. So that's something, at least.]

Besides, I think I'll take the risk. Even if there are bad people around, there might be people who need help, too.
braavado: (Okay lemme try that again)

[personal profile] braavado 2015-05-28 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure I can. [It's a good way to pass the time anyway. There's a pause as Korra finds her place in the story again.]

Wan walked around in the spirit wilds until he came across an oasis that was guarded by the aye-aye spirit. The spirit wouldn't let him in at first because he was human, but after he saw Wan save a deer cat from some hunters, he changed his mind.

After that, Wan stayed with them for a few years, learning the ways of the spirits and helping the spirits protect the oasis with the fire element.

[She pauses then, wondering if she should continue. While the rest of the story is important to the Avatar's origins, it does take a slightly sadder tone in comparison.]

[Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth, talking to some kid and not even knowing it? He supposes he'd best try to watch his mouth.]

All it takes is one bad'un.

[That's probably the extent of his lecturing. He's got too much on his own plate to try to pick up anybody else's.]

prompt one; network

[He was so sure he could be back on time. So sure. He'd calculated the time he had left, it should have been more than enough-- but after banging on the door of the house he'd been staying at, then banging on all the doors of all the houses he could find... Stiles was forced to admit there might have been something that went wrong with those calculations. It was always Lydia who was good at math. Maybe he would have needed her notes for this, too.

And hell, he hates the cold. After just a few hours outside, huddled against the wall of the last house he tried to get in to, it's already seeping in. It almost feels like the bathtub full of ice, except back then he was dying to save his dad, and the dying wasn't, you know, permanent. (Is it, here? Maybe not, but he'd rather not have taken the chance.)

Typing on the tablet is out of the question, but at least he can still talk.]

So... this would be a good time for someone to tell me this whole "don't stay outside the night" thing is a total lie. Someone? ... Anyone?

prompt four; action

[He wakes up with shuddering gasp that soon turns into a fit of coughing. There's a voice ringing in his ears-- the tablet, telling him to leave... and it doesn't have to tell him twice. Staying in the morgue? Yeah, no thanks, even he isn't that morbid.

Which is probably a bit ironic, given that he just came back to life. But Stiles isn't complaining, definitely not complaining, even though dying of hypothermia certainly leaves something to be desired, not an ideal way to go, 10/10 would not recommend-- instead, he stumbles outside, taking out his tablet to see what is going on... but all the words on it seem jumbled, some of the letters moving up, some down, until he can't make any sense of what he's seeing.]

No- [oh no, no, not this again, not again--] I... why can't I read this? Hey! [He stumbles as he tries to run to the person nearby.] Hey, can you read this?

[ Once more, he mirrors her. Without releasing the tablet in order to support himself against the wall, he neatly folds his body into a seated position on the floor. Across the transmission, she lifts her chin and he watches, gaze severe in its intensity. There is nothing more he can offer her; he will bear witness to her death, a sacrifice he will never allow to be rendered meaningless. ]

Good. [ His chest aches, but his steady voice betrays nothing. ] You’ll help me bring it to base then.

Yeah, that's fair. I think really Empire's the better movie in an objective sense, but I just have a soft spot for New Hope, so...
