TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW...
Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.

TWO: CABIN FEVER
Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING
You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.

FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING
You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

I daresay you're allowed to doubt it as much as you'd like.

[Her words aren't making her sound any less morbid--there's plenty to be said for how one lives as well as how one dies, at least in Bard's book--but the realization that they're in the same boat stays his argument. With a sigh, he opens his tablet's little notepad to take a look at the crude map he's been making since arriving here. What he's seen of this place so far makes it seem highly unlikely that they're anywhere near each other, but he would rather be sure.]

I don't suppose you're anywhere near a building with a hole in its north face the height of two grown Men?
hugeballs: (hit me on my burner prepaid wireless)

[personal profile] hugeballs 2015-05-29 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. Some things are nostalgic, or they just resonate with you. And being able to tell the difference between fondness and actual quality shows a degree of perception many don't have, so congratulations. I mean, really, when it comes to favourites, 'quality' shouldn't ever be a factor, but it's still an important skill to have.
croi: (But no one else is here.)

Ya-ho. [This is the spirit of popcorn.gif contained in ya-ho form. He's retreated into a sort of zen popcorn.gif zone with shivers which are totally just excitement and not impending frostbite/ser- let's just go there/death.

Although...shit, with that reminder now his balls are starting to feel really blue and not just in the can't get laid sense and it's very hard to not worry about that. Thanks man, thanks. There goes the popcorn.gif zen zone.]

Hey. Don't think about that. [He said, thinking about that.] Think about what you'll do whenever we find the assholes responsible for it. And if this is a story why the hell would they kill- [Or castrate via frostbitten deballing THANKS MAN THANKS.] off the characters in the first scene, huh?

Did you get Krypto a new collar?

[Pah, cross-dimensional spoilers are a wizard's business.

This man sounds like he might actually be telling the truth, but he may also just be a particularly skilled liar--without a face to see, it's hard to tell. If only the notion of killing Smaug again weren't so appealing...]

Have you any advice for a humble bowman, then? [He oh so politely refrains from following that up by wondering aloud whether all this mention of trying means Lancer's methods just weren't up to the task, but there's something too innocent about his voice that suggests he'll start talking shit at the drop of a hat if necessary.]
mayora13: (pic#9135702)

It's okay ouo! Sogo's great heheueu

[personal profile] mayora13 2015-05-29 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Hijikata was really starting to contemplate his options. He could step outside and find a less haunted- er- better lit cabin and risk freezing to death or he could remain in the cold, moldy cabin and risk doing something really embarrassing after being startled by his own shadow.

Sogo's insistence on finding him sealed it.

He'd just have to make sure not to make a fool of himself in front of a subordinate. Especially not that subordinate. Luckily, he had time to acclimate himself to the dim lighting.]

My lighter's out of fluid, so you'll have to come up with another scheme. [Very funny. Almost as funny as worrying about the weather killing him. Hijikata wasn't the one abandoning shelter for an unknown winter wasteland.

He lowered his tablet and looked very pointedly towards the one window in his cabin. Hijikata totally didn't see the looming black figure, a shadow with more shape - human - than it had previously. That wasn't why he immediately brought his tablet to his face. He'd just had an idea! A great idea!]

I'm going to step outside too. I'll get a better view of the area that way. [With that Hijikata was out the door, running at a very impressive speed over the threshold to skid to a halt in the snowbank.

His surveillance was carried out with frequent checking of the network and even more frequent glances over his shoulder. Once he could have sworn he'd seen the figure watching him from the window. Luckily, no one was around to hear his startled yell.

Hijikata raised his tablet, leaning on the threshold of his cabin's door but hesitating to retreat inside. So he could see Sogo if he approached.]
I'm standing in the doorway now. The sun's setting to my right, so that's West. Which means the door is facing North. Behind the cabin it's all thick forest, but in front of me is just rocks and a completely frozen stream. [Not the best to go by, but this place was hardly much to look at.]

There's a huge mountain face to my left, so East of here. It's far, but I imagine it's visible from anywhere. [For good measure, he snapped a picture. Both of the terrain out front of the cabin and of the mountain.]

How are you doing, what do you see? [Despite being really obnoxious and trying to kill him, Hijikata would do his damn best to get Sogo to him. No one would die in the snow on his watch. Besides, focusing on a task like this took his mind off of the totally not creepy not haunted normal regular cabin behind him.]

pointnshoot: (that fuckin dragon)

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-05-29 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
He's no more reasonable in death than he was in life, and in life he burnt my whole town down. [And it gets even better, but Bard knows better than to speak of dragons unprompted now, so someone'll have to earn it.]
croi: ("Let's play a game.")

[personal profile] croi 2015-05-29 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? [Except instead of amused this is more...he's taking it seriously at this point. When pillaged towns are involved you need to treat it as more than a joke, okay? This must've been one nasty bandit of some kind. Maybe a mage?] You know what he wants from you?

[Besides generic OoooooOOOOoooOoOO I am a ghost.]
pointnshoot: (I hope you land in a dung heap)

[Good, they won't have to duke it out if they ever meet in person.]

Payback for killing him the first time around, I imagine. He saves his words for weak insults and tales of my children dying in so many different ways I know none of them are true.

[Not that that makes them any more pleasant to hear. He really doesn't like spending much time near the fireplace right now.]

[Kindling.

She grimaces before she can quite stop herself, shaking her head.]

I'm afraid not. It's all...

[A pointed look at the furniture he's been... repurposing.]

...somewhat scarce at the moment.
croi: (Not much you can do here.)

[personal profile] croi 2015-05-29 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[They can anyway. Trying to beat the shit out of someone is a completely and totally legitimate way of getting to know them and if someone finds a distillery of some kind they could get roaring drunk afterwards. (This might have happened a lot to him.)] And he doesn't have a form you can kill, does he.

[No, it would never be that easy, would it. If he did, then Bard wouldn't be chatting up the network, and that would have a question mark opposed to a flat period at the end.]

My situation was different. There were seven Servants-...spirits called by seven mages to do battle. I was one of them. We had bodies and if someone pissed you off you could just stab them. This sounds different. If someone summoned it you could try to stop them, but if that was the case then...I don't know about you, but I'd be able to do more. [Use magic! Light trees on fire. That sort of thing.]

Three days.

[ For all that friendly intentions have been established, Jorah isn’t shy about watching out the side of his eye while George ferrets around in his bedroll.

By the light of the fire, he looks as weathered as he sounds. There are deep creases worn in around his eyes and over his brow, still furrowed with mistrust after the product of the search turns out to be a can. The bristle of his beard is flecked with grey and his hair is coarse, faded silver at the fringes. ]

I was in Essos.

[ He looks to the can, self-deprecating, as if he expects it to be more tolerant of his suspicions. ]

Now I think I might be dead.

[ Air in. Steam out.

The heavy plate shaped over his shoulders articulates aggression in broad strokes; he bunches muscle up beneath it like a horse steeling himself to kick. ]

Why have you brought me here.

[ The rumble of his voice is low and rough and all about that bass (no treble) -- but he hasn’t advanced, and the scabbard at his hip is empty. ]

[Lea turns sharply when there's movement on his left, but he lowers his guard a bit when he sees it's just a kid. He looks kind of panicked, though, and Lea's eyes move upward to see where he was coming from. Ah, so he'd woken up in the morgue; he guessed that was as good a reason to panic as any. He'd done the whole dying and coming back to life thing back home, and it hadn't been terribly fun. It certainly isn't anything he wants to go through again.

[He takes a step back as the boy staggers toward him, but it's more to avoid a collision than out of any aversion.]

What? Read? [He leans over and peers at the tablet--it just looks like the network, so far as he can tell.] Well, sure, it's just a page of the network. [He points to one of the entries.] I've seen this guy's posts before, he's usually good for a laugh. [Which was rare these days. He frowns at the kid and shakes his head.] Why? Can't you?

"I know what you mean. It ain't the same with the little voice box. Like talkin' on the phone without no operator. Weird thing. I don't like it much." He rolls to pull the tablet out of its tuck at the end of his bedroll.

Waving it a little at her, he sits up straighter. "You ever seen anything like this before? 'Cause I sure ain't. Don't make any kinda sense. None 'a this does."

If there seemed to be some reason for being here, something they could grasp or understand, he'd feel better about it all. He'd know how to parse it.

Essos.

[He screws his face up a little, thinking. He never finished much schooling. He didn't have the luxury.]

That somewhere in England?

[Jorah sounds like a Limey, as far as George can reckon.]

I was just outside Soledad.

[He snorts softly.]

Naw. I don't think we're dead. Too much goin' on for that.

[His voice drops softer.]

'Sides. It ain't near hot enough for it.

[He leans forward and turns the bean can to warm the other side.]

[ No sword, not even a dagger, Jorah lets his hand ease back to his side, where it waits, open and ready. He’s down to vembraces and skirt for protection; the heavier metal plate of his armor is missing, arranged in at tidy stack in another room. Naturally.

The look in her eyes is enough to steel some of the humor out of the grip of his jaw, whiskers bristled ginger and grey at his chops. What remains is at his own expense as much as it is hers, but he does stand a shade taller at the insult, spine stiffened out in the small of his back. Old man. ]

Keep walking and find out.

[ All gravel and sand, he manages to make it sound like an invitation, very nearly polite. ]

[ Jorah’s eyes are blue, and keen -- all the moreso for the fact that the rest of him is an amalgamation of swarthy leather and dirt and the same shirt he’s been wearing for weeks now, if not months, everything in shades of brown and grey. One look at her is enough to stop him fast where he stands, with half a chair broken down into kindling and his breath fogging faint around his ears. Wary.

He hasn’t met many witches, but she has a certain look to her. ]

I don’t recall being invited, [ he says, once he’s had time to take her in.

Suspicion is spelled out plain in the furrow of his brow, along with uncertainty. He looks like he's in danger of starting a fire if his brain cells rub together any harder or faster to figure out what to do about her and her tapping finger. ]

[This sort of situation is exactly why he's glad he's got the assortment of arrows that he does. It'll make getting to the roofs a lot easier.]

So you're thinking this is all some sort of test? [A pause.] You know, considering the deranged people I've run into in the past, I wouldn't be surprised. I hope that's not the case because I feel like I'd be more pissed off about it all if it was.

[Ruto isn't far from Stiles; in fact, her door had been one of the ones he had knocked on. But, much as she might have wanted to, she couldn't do anything about it. While she's a fairly selfish person and doesn't like the idea of having to share shelter, she already learned the very hard way what happens if you get locked out, and she's decent enough that she wouldn't want a death like that weighing on her conscience.

She turns on her video feed when she sees the message on the network so she can respond, frowning.]
I thought it was a lie too! I mean, who would be stupid enough to lock all the doors in weather like this?

I only fight if I must defend myself. It seems to me like a poor course of action to gain an aggressive reputation when we must so often rely on the mercy of near-strangers to survive.

[Such a diplomatic way to say 'same to you, dude'. Though it's easier to relax again once the poker is back on the floor.]

I am Zelda. [She responds, but a pause follows, heavy with consideration. Everyone woke up here with little more than the clothes on their backs; her title hardly gives her much of an advantage others might be envious of.] Princess of Hyrule. For all that it might matter in this place.

[Her eyes fall to her slippers, thawing out by the fire. All she has fought for to regain... will she have to throw it all away again in the name of survival?]

Fair to say none of us here are in much place to judge.
