TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW...
Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.

TWO: CABIN FEVER
Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING
You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.

FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING
You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

two - network
[Namine has quickly learned that she's not a fan of the cold. Snow, maybe, had Kairi and the others actually lived somewhere that had it and experienced it. But combining the two of them together, it leaves her wanting to stay inside the tiny room she woke up in.

But that was days ago. Days without seeing the sun or much light and only surviving on the rationed food in her backpack. She's used to being alone, stuck in places she wasn't allowed to leave for whatever reason. But this is too long, and after waking up from a restless sleep today, it feels like staying in this place is starting to affect her.

The walls of the room feel closer to her than before, and now there's tall dark shadows that she notices just slightly out of sight, brandishing what look like weapons and gesturing to her.

She needs something to take her mind off them, and turns to the tablet in her pack. Someone please give her a distraction.]

Is anyone ther

Does anyone have

I need something to draw. Please. Someone give me an idea. Something to draw.

three - action
[One look at this girl could tell you that she's not used to this kind of climate or weather or even exploring. Small and frail looking, but she understood the basics of survival, and couldn't stay in the place she had woken up in. There had to be better shelter out there.

Namine had begun to think it was a mistake to leave the small shelter she found herself in, having just about never explored a world on her own. So that house on the hill looks like a blessing to her, and she makes a beeline in the snow for it. Opening up the door and stepping inside, it feels cold and vacant and dark but still better than outside. And a fireplace makes this place even more promising. A source of warmth and light in this place.

There's just one little problem...

She doesn't know how to light a fire. As she kneels by the fireplace and collects some pieces of the wood that's around, she runs through what she does know in her head: wood, a match and something to catch the fire easily. But she had no matches and no tinder. No way to actually make a fire other than just stacking the wood up.

How is she supposed to get warm now?]

[ Roxas was the same way. Stubborn, defiant, used to loss, used to being looked down on. It created tsunderes that reaction, the rejection of the pity that suggested that you were weak or that, god forbid, you might need it. Very few people have ever apologized to Roxas for what they've done to him, and here in Norfinbury it honestly felt even more useless of sentiment no matter how kindly meant. ]

Hi, Rabbit.

[ While the name was not an unusual one for the worlds he came from, most of the other residents had a different convention. It does occur, vaguely in the back of his mind, that it may be a lie but it also doesn't really bother him enough to balk.

He looks away again when she asks if he's ever missed the curfew. ]

I tried to leave town, when I first got here.

pointnshoot: (another close call)

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-06-02 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lancer's not sounding so bad himself, at least as long as that earlier "stabbing people who piss you off" thing doesn't translate to interacting with normal people. Bard wouldn't want to have to call off the dragon-punching over unnecessary roughness.]

It's immediately east of this "clinic" place, the empty house of healing. The front door here is very red. [Where was that video function... ah yes, right there.]
ghouldere: (that play well with your own)

[ There was a certain kinship between them in that sense, then, one sunk deep down into their bones and unspoken in its own way. Touka was grateful for his lack of platitudes, at the very least. Most people would offer some gold nuggets of advice in this situation, which was a useless gesture for someone too far gone at this point.

The only person Touka would have accepted anything like that from was Yoriko, and even then, she knew Yoriko wouldn't give her any of that bullshit. Though Roxas wasn't her friend, Touka was happy to have his company as her shoulders sagged against the unyielding door, her head drooping. ]

... Yeah? How did that end up working out for you? Aside from the obvious.

[ It was weird, asking how someone had died when they were speaking directly to you. She was surprised she hadn't attempted to skip town herself, really. She watched him through the monitor in silence, brushing her hair out of her eyes. ]
desenchanter: (As Far As They Go)

[personal profile] desenchanter 2015-06-02 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There was an argument to be made as to whether or not he really even truly understood platitudes. His life was broken into pieces, before and afters. In one before, he had been a tool that no one wasted their time or care on. In another after he was loved and accepted by holograms, had learned his civilities through a complex lie meant to keep him quiet until the time was right to destroy him completely. It makes him question himself, always. Maybe, in its own way, this cold hellhole made the choices easy for him. The happy times in Twilight Town didn't apply, put them out of your head. ]

The wind was the worst part, I guess. [ It was hard to quantify what was the worst about being here. The cold, the hunger, the loneliness? It was all the worst. ] It just bites at you and you can't see anything, so by the time I thought I should go back I didn't know which way anymore.

[ It was strange to him how a landscape swathed in black or in white could both be so equally disorienting when they were utter opposites. ]

[personal profile] ghouldere 2015-06-02 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She glances at the time displayed on the tablet. They had a fair few hours before curfew... ]

okay. i'll start heading north-ish, i guess.

[ And with that she's off! She keeps her mask, which is a rather simple likeness of a rabbit, stored in the pocket of her coat for easy access, to be put on when she gets near. She didn't know who she was talking to, after all, and having her face be identified could bite her in the ass in the future. ]

i'll ping you if i see any large landmarks.
folklorist: (I don't honestly know)

[personal profile] folklorist 2015-06-02 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Bayonetta...well it's nice to-to meet you. I wish it was, ah, under different circumstances however. [ The enochian writing doesn't go unnoticed, not at all, if anything Helios tilts his head curiously back at her before he takes a slight step backwards. ]

It s-seems like they have ways to tamper with our powers as well. My magic doesn't work at all here. It hasn't worked since I arrived.
ghouldere: (✦ ᴡᴇ·ʟʟ ᴛᴀʟᴋ)

[personal profile] ghouldere 2015-06-02 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm lucky then, I guess. There's no wind here. Just cold. [ The darkness of the street laid out before her was oddly serene, the snow gently falling without cease. In a way, she almost wished she had tried to leave town and gone out that way; at least in that case she'd have been working towards something. Here, she was literally just sitting and waiting to die against the backdrop of a provincial ghost town, covered in snow.

The patio provided Touka with enough cover to keep her from getting buried, but she half-wondered if she should just sit out in the street proper. The end could come sooner that way. ]

But you came back, right? [ Her voice had lost its waver now, replaced with a dull tone of resignation. Her bones practically shuddered with the cold as it settled into her like an evil spirit, numbing her muscles and making her feel sluggish in spite of her not moving. ] And are you any different for it having happened to you?

[ Part of her wants to thank him for sparing her the loneliness, but she's too proud for that. ]
kindlings: (sassing)

I laughed at this for a good twenty minutes before bed, last night. :D

[personal profile] kindlings 2015-06-02 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's a (perhaps anticipated) righteous sputter of indignation over the feed, and then Ygritte tamps down on the urge to scream at him that she's nineteen, she's practically an old maid by how spearwives north of the Wall are concerned, and she knows more than he thinks she does.

Instead, she does something that surprises even herself: she laughs. A throw-her-red-head-back kind of laugh. You know nothin', stranger. ]

...I'll show you what I understand, when y' get here...if you make it, o'course.

[ That... makes him hesitate. There had been something different when he had first woken up... but it had been a familiar different. The familiar loss of emotion and memory that has been the backdrop of his entire life. He grimaces without realizing and rubs at the back of his neck for a moment. ]

You'll feel weird when you first wake up. [ Other people have described other effects, so he doesn't really want to try to guess which one will hook its claws into her for those first few hours. But he does want to reassure her, ] But it'll go away.

[ Which maybe isn't really what she was entirely wanting to know, but it's what he feels comfortable replying to. On the deeper level of who he is... wouldn't he have needed a self for that. It makes him feel bitter. ]
pointnshoot: (another close call)

I was very proud of myself for that one

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-06-02 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll give credit where credit is due: she recovers quickly. Of course, he's in the trickier position here: she seems like the sort who'll see victory in getting the last word, and any number of false steps on his part might be taken as encouragement. Bard takes a moment to collect his thoughts, catching his tablet between his teeth as he crawls out of his little snow cave to buy himself the time. (That poor thing's going to get scratched to hell if he keeps this up.)

He immediately regrets emerging into the open air, but there's no point turning back now. Anyway, he has a comeback that should be sufficient, even if it's not half as good as his previous.]

If this is your idea of gaining a man's attentions, it can't be very much.
croi: (...anyway. I'd speculate on how. But.)

[Right, there. He got his working and he's inside a...

For the sake of the narrative, let's say a shack. A small cow shed. It looks rather shitty, on a literal and a metaphorical level.]

Ah. [Although it was a drawn out drawled 'ah' of comprehension, the sort of noise one would use as a filler noise in lieu of a 'man' or 'dude' or perhaps a 'yeah.' Maybe more of an aaaaah.] I think I know where you are. Passed by it two, maybe three days ago. Didn't stay long.

[(And then watch, the plot twist is that there's a second house that has a bright red door.) And with that, after a glance to make sure there's not something that he'd miss, Lancer's leaving the shitty cow shack. Yolo.] You got anywhere you need to go?
croi: ("Let's play a game.")

Sorry for the late, bro. 1.

[personal profile] croi 2015-06-02 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah.

...ah. The camera gets a...kind of sympathetic grimace? It's a grimace motivated by the feeling known as death happens but that's still a shit way to go, sorry.

Then the device is propped up on a nearby table and Lancer went back to what he had been doing, which was attempting to basically make a very primitive spear. Because he's Cú Chulainn "Lancer" McNolastname for a reason, and that reason is because he's really good at hitting people with the pointy end of a stick, and as such he feels a little naked and exposed without something along those lines.]

Evisceration? Depends on who's doing the cutting and how it happened. If it was from a fair battle then you can at least die knowing that you fought well. If it wasn't, then all you have left is cursing your luck and your powerlessness while you slowly bleed to death. So it depends.
pointnshoot: (okay but listen)

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-06-02 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Bard doesn't recognize what he sees of the poor, degraded cow shed, but then he hasn't ranged too far from his current location in days. He must've been out exploring when Lancer passed through, though, because he tends to remember when he actually runs into people here.

Wait a minute. Two or three days ago?]

Did you by any chance take a bloody large can of beans while you were passing through?

[Juuuust curious.]

You draw?

[ she smiles — another artist. maybe they can exchange tips sometime, or collaborate. if they survive the weather, that is. ]

I used to draw nature a lot. Trees, flowers... or the sky. Or you could try drawing someone who's important to you, as a gift for when you get back.
croi: (Here? No.)

[personal profile] croi 2015-06-02 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. No one else was around so I took it with me.

Oh, I see. That was yours, wasn't it?

[DOESN'T SOUND TOO SORRY ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW.]
pointnshoot: (I hope you land in a dung heap)

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-06-02 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Minus points. Minus so many points. Five hundred points lost, Lancer, you do not just take a man's beans. (Even if it didn't have his name on it or anything. They were still his in spirit!)]

If there are any left, I'd thank you to bring them back with you.

[That is the tightly-controlled voice of someone who doesn't want to admit he's really pissed about the food.]
croi: ("Let's play a game.")

[personal profile] croi 2015-06-02 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I finished it off. But... [This is going to be a thing, isn't it. That actually gets a sigh out of him. Don't sweat the small stuff, Bard. Don't be so small minded.] Man, I've got a can of...spam I can give you. Appears to be some kind of meat.

[And yes, he's going to head back into the shed so they can properly dicker over a price for the beans.]
kindlings: (over the shoulder commentary)

it's quite praise-worthy. :p

[personal profile] kindlings 2015-06-02 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Her breath comes heavier as the snow she's trudging through gets deeper, and the cold is making her teeth chatter now, but she soldiers on without complaint. She's almost to the building — which is good, because the weather is picking up and the snowfall all around them is starting to get heavier.

She scoffs at his comment, not at all fazed by the insult; it's not like she was particularly trying hard to seduce. ]

'Tch. Men're simple creatures, whether north or south o' the Wall - what they want's easy 'nough t' know most times.

[ ...a complete falsehood, really, because as much as she'd loathe to admit it, Jon Snow was much more complicated — given his betrayal at Queenscrown — than she'd realized. ]
pointnshoot: (no but really)

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-06-02 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Finished off a seven-pound can of beans? Did he eat nothing else until it was empty?!

But, well. Haggling over one stupid can of beans, no matter how fantastically large it might've been, isn't going to get rid of Smaug chortling at him, so Bard very carefully puts his priorities back in order: dragon, then beans.]

Bring whatever you think is appropriate, we'll settle it after you clear my fireplace.
pointnshoot: (okay but listen)

[personal profile] pointnshoot 2015-06-02 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Bard's toes are already colder than he'd like--he really wishes he'd been able to replace his boots before now--and he's shivering pretty badly himself, but he keeps walking as well, tucking his tablet halfway into his coat so the camera can still mark his progress while his hands are left free to be tucked into the relative warmth of his armpits.]

So you can tell the difference between a man looking for fun, a man looking to marry, and a man who claims he's looking to marry but will abandon you the moment you're with child? [...He might have slipped into protective dad mode a bit there. Sorry.]

Maybe we'll find a way out.

[ and really, the "we" part of this comes out too easily. they weren't a crew anymore, after all, but they were from the same world. they had to stick together in some respect, right? ]

I'll take Tink, and we can work together to find something. If we can make a map, it'll keep us busy at least. It might get colder, after all. [ and if it does, how will they stay warm? they don't have much each other at this point, and the houses with doors that lock at night. ]

[ That gets another breathless laugh from her. ]

Y'think I can't raise a child on my own? If a man gets me with child and's too weak t' stick 'round, I'll raise 't m'self. Won't be pinin' after 'im to help me.

[ She huffs, trudges on. There might be a note of bitterness there, if his dad mode can detect it. ] A man's only 's good as his word. Naught else.

[He might have some 'now that I'm alive again I need to eat on a regular basis' adjustment problems. Don't judge.]

It's not much. If it's not enough I'll try to find a rabbit for you and we'll call it even then.

You have a fireplace? [You lucky son of a bitch, on that note. He ended up chilling in the cow shed just because the curfew caught him by surprise.]

PROMPT ONE
[apollo seems to be relieved the second the video function starts recording him, but it doesn't last long since the illness and hypothermia is clear on his face. don't forget the regret, slight panic, and desperation when he finally speaks up.]

Okay, so I messed up. [understatement.]

Is there... I didn't search the whole area but maybe someone else got to it before me. Did anyone find a tent? A shack? Anything?

[he's cut off by a sudden gust of wind that he tried to block with his arm but it doesn't exactly do much. this was a terrible idea.]

Oh my God. Just somebody respond with anything. Seriously!

PROMPT THREE
[apollo stumbles into the house at first, somehow tripping over the snow, hitting his forehead on the door of the new house before he straightens up with a large sigh. at least no one was around to see that.

this is interesting, though— no one seems to be around when this is one of the larger buildings in the area. either way, he can see a fireplace constructed and that's enough for him to want to search, write whatever he found down, grab some supplies, then get out of here.

he opens the door cautiously, head peeking in first, then takes one careful step after another. it's clear he's going for the fireplace as he takes off his backpack, before his eyes settle on you and it's enough for him to jump back by just a bit.]

Ah, uh, hey.
