Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW... Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.
TWO: CABIN FEVER Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.
Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.
FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?
[He says it cheerfully, giving her a thumbs up at the same time to take the sting out of his decision, but he can truthfully be stubborn as a mule when he wants to be.]
So it might be a good idea not to waste your energy trying.
[Finally, she pulls her hands back and crosses her arms over her chest as she scowls at him.]
Fine, but I'm staying awake and keeping you company. Someone's gotta make sure you're okay.
[Then Korra leans in and jabs at his general chest area with her pointer finger, just hard enough to make a point without hurting herself on the metal.]
And if you end up getting hurt because of this, I'm punching you myself. Got it?
[She relents after that, smiling slightly. The threats out of the way now, and even if he's not taking her seriously, he'll learn his lesson later. If anything goes wrong.]
I just checked the buildings around here. You can tell if people left things behind when they moved on, you know? Most of the time there isn't really anything you can use, though.
[Korra finishes packing down the snow and finally crawls into the shelter. She draws her legs up to her chest, looking out at her new friend through the entrance.]
[As soon as Korra is inside, Alphonse will sit at the entrance and shuffle forwards enough that his body becomes almost a fourth wall for the shelter. It might not be the warmest, but it has to help a little bit.
He thinks it's a shame that she got shut out with nothing to show for her extra effort in scavenging, so he doesn't dwell on that in case it's a sore point for her either.]
Yeah! It's so pretty out here, I could watch the snow fall forever.
[And probably end up frozen to the ground and with the metal of his body cracked and split with the cold.]
[Korra plucks at the sleeve of her jacket, not for the first time glad that they had left one for her when she woke up. The sleeveless shirt she'd been wearing when she was taken would not have stood up against the extreme cold.]
It's pretty. [If she tilts her head slightly, she can still see the snow falling outside, though Alphonse's armor covers most of the view.] Back home, I used to watch at the window and wait until the worst of the snow storm was over. Then I'd run out and build snowmen. Have you ever made one before, Al?
[Even though it was impossible for Al's expression to alter, he still somehow manages to give the distinct impression that he is smiling. The lights of his eyes dim slightly, wistful in memories.]
One year the snow fell so deep that our house was practically cut off. Brother and I made a whole snow army with alchemy... Our hands got so wet and cold drawing the transmutation circles in the snow.... Mom held my hands so tight in hers to warm them up.
[Only a few months later the wave of disease had swept through and stolen her. Even though remembering his mother always had a tinge of sadness and guilt, he was glad that at least he could remember some of the happy times without pain.]
[A smile touches her lips as she tries to imagine this--but when she doesn't know how Al looks under the armor, she has to do some filling out the blanks herself.]
What's...alchemy? I just used my bending to make the snowmen, but your way sounds faster.
[Alchemy wasn't extremely fast in those days. Drawing transmutation circles takes time, and they were still young and learning then which made them even slower. Al leans forward, clearly interested in bending in return.]
Alchemy is the science of deconstructing and reconstructing matter. [He holds up one hand, presses it to the other, and then holds that up as if transferring between them.] As long as what you want to make is physically possible out of the chemical components you have available, and it's not of a greater mass, then anything is possible.
[The passion in his voice is clear, this is a kid who loves learning and loves alchemy.]
So what's bending? I've not heard of it before, can it only be used to make snowmen?
[How does science build snowmen, she wants to ask. Or anything else he's mentioned. From the way Al's describing it, alchemy can make anything, as long as you have the right ingredients.
Maybe she'd ask him after she explains bending.]
Bending is the ability to control the elements. There's four main types: water, earth, fire, and air. Most people can use one type of bending--I wish I could show you how it works, but my bending's gone. [She lifts a hand, staring at it in frustration.] I haven't been able to use it since I woke up here.
[Wow, bending sounds really interesting, and totally alien. Alchemy could do a lot of amazing things and, in it's own way, was capable of melding certain elements into obeying the alchemist's whim. But bending sounded a lot more advanced.]
Me either. Um, I mean-- no alchemy, obviously I haven't been able to use bending since I can't use that anyway.
[Al leans forwards, elbows on his knees, so he can look Korra more directly in the eye.]
Then they're really stupid. Having gifts is amazing, but that's not what would help anyone survive here. It's the strength inside of you, inside of all of us, and the determination to keep going until we succeed that will make us survive. Alchemy is wonderful, and I'm sure bending is too, but taking them away doesn't make us any less able to get through anything thrown at us.
Mm, right! That's something I learnt from my brother... that no matter how tough things get, determination can help you do amazing things to overcome it.
Your brother sounds like a smart guy. What's he like?
[As Korra settles down for what might be a bit of a talk, she briefly wonders if Al and his brother are anything like Mako and Bolin. It hasn't been all that long since she got here, but she misses her friends already.]

Got it! I guess I really will have to be okay then, because I definitely don't want to get punched.
[It's probably best that she stays awake anyway, it'll be safer for her in the long run.]
So did you even manage to find any supplies?

[Her sigh can barely be heard over the wind blowing outside.]
Looks like they're taking away anything that can help us here. We'll have to get through this the hard way.

You're really something, you know? [Now she gives him a wry smile.] And I'm supposed to be the one giving pep talks here.
You're right, though. We might not have our bending or our alchemy here, but that doesn't mean we can't take it.
