Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW... Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.
TWO: CABIN FEVER Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.
Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.
FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?
[His second thought is, Telling Demyx that would be a waste of time right now.]
Lea knows what happens in the morgue -- dead people come back to life. No one told him about the after-effects, but really, they could deal with that after Demyx was out of here. For quite possibly the first time ever, Lea keeps his mouth shut as he nods and straightens his legs, still bent over and holding Demyx's hand.]
[Demyx was always a pretty cool guy, and Lea is getting pretty freaking lonely, so the decision to help is a no-brainer. If it was someone like Xigbar on the ground, though... he's not so sure what he would have done.]
Edited (what even are tense changes) 2015-05-21 04:13 (UTC)
[Sometimes it's hard for Demyx to know how people will react to him. Most of his coworkers didn't particularly care for him, a fact he's perfectly aware of, he just doesn't care about that. He's surprised there's no smart comment forthcoming, but then again Axel probably isn't in the habit of wasting his breath.
He's a little more surprised at his hand being taken. He drags his free arm across his damp cheeks, as if the tears were never there and gets up at Axel's silent supportive move.
He's been lonely too. With no magic, and few skills in survival, it's been hell. Then he died a cold, miserable death. Axel's help, even for a few minutes might ground him, get his head clear.]
This place is so cold! I hate it. If I had my sitar my water would just freeze into ice. This world would've been Vexen's thing.
[Why would he want to? He usually acts like a smartass because he wants people to hear. And besides, all the air in here is frickin' freezing.]
[Demyx wants to talk, though. Fine. Lea smiles; hopefully the Nobody can read lips.]
You got that right. Would've liked to lock him in here and never let him out. But man, if I had my powers... no one would be worried about the cold, at least.
[Also, the town would be on fire within the month. But details.]
[He can't really, he never needed to know, it was the kind of thing you had to learn. He does manage to catch a few words, namely the part about locking Vexen in there by mouthing the words to figure it out.
When he catches that, he bursts out into laughter.]
Locking Vexen in here would be pretty awesome!
[Demyx smiles and offers a half shrug, sorry, he didn't get the rest. At least he's a little cheered up, as much as someone without a heart can be. He certainly acts as though he feels a little better. Demyx thinks he should, having someone with him for a little while, he imagine that feels pretty good after everything so far.]
[Hey, man, don't worry about it. Hearts are weird. Hell, Lea has one right now and he still doesn't know what it's doing half the time. He does know that it's telling him to help Demyx out right now, though, so here he is.]
C'mon, let's get outta here. [Lea unlaces his hand from Demyx's. Instead, he winds it under Demyx's arm and finally settles, supporting the back. It certainly is a comfort to finally have company, especially company Lea can say he knows. As they make their way out of the morgue, the redhead begins thinking; hadn't Demyx the Nobody died? Lea's first assumption was that he woke up again as a Somebody, like most of the Radiant Garden crew did -- but then, why would he be in a morgue? And the slight stiltedness in his reactions to things, was that the sign of a missing heart or just the side-effects of being revived?]
[Eventually, they come to a stop somewhere with shelter. Lea taps Demyx's shoulder, and looks kind of awkward as he mouths the words out -- slowly, to let Demyx decipher them.]
[Leaving the morgue is not a hardship in the least - he has no desire to spend any extra time lingering where dead people are. He lets Axel support him, a little unsteady from the waking up process. In fact, leaving is a relief.
Shelter can be hard to come by, so he's grateful there is some nearby and he's focused on looking around when Lea catches his attention again.
He focuses on the words and with thinking it through he can understand the question. He looks puzzled.]
Demyx, you know that. We've known each other like eight years or something.
[What could he be talking about?]
Unless you mean my Somebody? That'd be impossible.
I dunno how I'm supposed to explain that one through lip reading. ...I don't get half of it myself. [He shrugs and throws his hands out, palms up. Does anyone really, really understand how hearts work? Lea doubts it. Maybe Yen Sid, but even then, there's gotta be something.]
Long story short, we can grow hearts and Xemnas is a fucking liar.
[Lea is talking too fast for him to catch everything, but the point at the end is most important.
Xemnas is a fucking liar.
His expression changes, like his world is crashing down around him. Part of him trusted the man, especially when he'd been younger. The work was distasteful, he hated every minute of it.
He wasn't that naive, was he? Part of him knew but the cost...he couldn't shoulder it. He wasn't brave.
Still, he'd let himself be used.
He pulls away from Lea, taking his hand from the man's chest and putting distance between them. He'd been loyal. He'd been played.
[That made two of them. Lea had kind of lost his cool at the end. Maybe if he had been thinking straight (if they had been in front of a warm fireplace, with food for months and no need to worry about any heart-forsaken snow) he would have realized that now wasn't exactly the best time to break the news.]
[The ominous shadow over Lea's face is a mirror image of Demyx's. They'd all been fucking played. Axel, Demyx, Roxas, Saïx (fucking damn Saïx). Everyone.]
[...]
[After a minute, Lea really takes a look at Demyx's body language. He subconsciously raises his brows a little; had he ever seen Demyx look this pissed off? No. Dude always looked... chill. Axel went to him to joke around, but that was about it. --Something in his stomach lurches, a feeling like maybe he didn't ever know the Nocturne at all.]
[Timing or not, it was better to know, wasn't it? It's a shock, a nasty one at that, but he should have seen it coming. Some part of him had to know he was being played.
He's not in the habit of being pissed off, but Xemnas lying to him is something else entirely. He's pissed off for the tiny little kid he was when he was found and the promises he'd swallowed before being forced to be a combatant which he hated and ultimately scouting worlds to destroy. If he could feel guilt, it would crush him all at once. Thank someone for small favours.
After a moment he lets out a frustrated little groan, scrubbing his hands in his hair as if he's going to remove the unpleasantness that way. There's no point in being mad now, real or otherwise, Xemnas is nowhere near him.
Not that Demyx has any idea what he'd do if he did encounter the man again. He smiled, a small uncertain smile and half shrugged.]
Not your fault. You're not the one who did it. I'm just really mad at him. It's kind of stupid because I can't do anything. Not now, not when I get back, I just...I can't do anything.
[It's weird, Lea thinks, how easily it is to fake a smile when you've got no feelings to stop you.]
[Little kid Axel sort of knew. So did Saïx. They had their suspicions, and they had this whole plan to rat Xemnas out, whatever the hell he was up to. Even after... the thing that happened... Axel always found himself waiting for the other shoe to drop. There was no way Xemnas could have been telling the complete truth to them, with all his shifty lies and bullshit. No way.]
[Lea expected to figure it out eventually-- just not by waking up with a de-tattooed face and an emotional punch to the gut.]
[Actually, it was just like the emotional punch to the gut he's taking right now. Lea wants to argue, say Demyx can do something, just out of instinct. The words are halfway to his mouth before they die.]
[He trails off a little. There has to be something special about that brown haired Somebody. Demyx doesn't really care for Saïx, they never got along, mostly because he's far too lazy and useless in Saïx's eyes. It worked to an advantage because none of the splintered factions wanted him and he didn't want to risk it.
Demyx doesn't want to die. He's too scared to lose his life, the last part of him that's still alive because isn't his Somebody long gone by then?]
The only thing I can do is capture Roxas. Maybe if I can get Roxas to come back to the Organization he'll hear me out and we could do something. I could try talking to him but I don't think he likes me that much.
[Sora definitely didn't seem to like him.]
I guess I just have to win, nothing to it right?
[He looks nervous. Demyx knows he can't defeat Roxas in a fight. The best he can hope for is mercy.]
Finish my mission...shouldn't be that hard.
you look away for five minutes and suddenly, everything is pain
One: you can't catch Roxas. It's impossible. [After what happened the last time he tried to capture Roxas? The kid's too damn stubborn, and he always finds a way to slip out of the jaws of death. Plus... he doesn't deserve to be captured, like a wild animal. Again.]
Two: your mission's cancelled. All the missions are... cancelled. [He pauses a moment, for both of their benefit.] If Roxas is out there somewhere, it isn't anyone's job to steal him back for Xemnas anymore.
[He smiles -- and, after a moment of hesitation, reaches up and taps one of his temples.] Got it memorized? You're off the hook.
I know, I tried to tell them I wasn't the right guy to go after Roxas but a mission is a mission.
[Letting him off the hook makes him look a little uneasy.]
I don't know Ax. You can't just...cancel my mission. If I don't do it, I'm gonna be in a lot of trouble. I already...Roxas already beat me once. If I go back empty handed again, who knows what Xiggy and Saïx are going to do to me!
[He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.]
it looks so innocent from the outside... but no. NO.
[It's a surprise too, but maybe it shouldn't be. These things shouldn't surprise him anymore.]
But where does that leave me? Axel, I gave him everything I had. I did things I didn't want to...why would he just go like that? What was the point of everything? Wasn't I supposed to get a heart?
[He exhales. Of course Lea has gone over this in his head but this is new information to Demyx. He needs time to process it. If Axel got his heart, where's his?
If he finds out Xemnas has it somewhere, pacifist musician or not, he'd fight the man for it.]
Yeah, here. In this frozen wasteland.
[He sighs a little bit.]
Sorry, I'm all kinds of shocked here, you know?
And sometimes Donald and Goofy are the ones doing the punching. FRIENDSHIP IS TRAGIC...
[Lea rolls his eyes.] I know, right? This place sucks. [The whole fighting for survival thing, okay, he can deal. But why does it have to be so damn cold???] Seriously, though, 's cool. Take your time.
[He knows that he'd probably take about two minutes to get out of the state of "WHAT"... but he'd stay much longer in the state of "silent fury at everything".]
[Actually, he's still kind of in silent fury at everything. The novelty of true anger hasn't worn off.]
Sure you can't whip us up some fire? It'd be real helpful right about now.
[He's kidding and he smiles to prove it. He knows Axel can't any more than he can make his water dance. He finds something overturned he can sit on and plops himself down. It isn't the best shelter, but it's good enough. It gets them out of the wind.
He'd like to spend all kinds of time in that silent fury but he truly doesn't have the heart to pull it off. Instead he draws his knees up and hugs himself to try and keep warm.]
I hope I don't forget what you said. Maybe I'll come up with a plan or something. Or I can go back and time, smack that kid upside the head and tell him to leave Xemnas in his dust.
[Except he'd been a timid kid and likely he wouldn't have been able to avoid getting picked up by some creep.]
Everything's too silent. You really here Ax? I'm not just having some crazy snow dream right?
[Apparently that joke doesn't go over as well as Demyx had hoped, because Lea just scowls and looks away. It would be real helpful right now, and one of the things he's silently furious about is the fact that he can't bring the fire. This frigid temperature -- it's not natural for him. His body should never be this cold. It feels like he'll freeze through so deeply that no matter where he goes, his flames won't ever come back...]
[Those kids were idiots. All of them were idiots. It's kind of amazing and kind of sad how wrong it all went in just ten years. Lea just hunches over next to Demyx, palms rubbing at his eyes. It's great that Demyx is here -- it's fantastic. He's really glad. He just doesn't know how to deal with the sudden reminder of the circumstances he was ripped away from.]
[Lea shivers and sits next to Demyx, close enough to share body heat. He sighs, even though Demyx won't hear it. His body isn't exactly a furnace, but it's not a snow dream either... hopefully, in the absence of words, that will be good enough.]
[Maybe it doesn't and he lets it go with his own little sigh. He's not trying to piss Lea off, he really doesn't want to be left alone here. Demyx's own favourite climate was a warm beach by an ocean with lots of water to play with. The whole ice, snow and wind is a far cry from that and he doesn't care for it any more than Lea does.
He can see Lea is being affected by what he's said and wisely decides instead to shut up about it. Talking about home can't bring anything good and if he's just upsetting Lea, Lea might leave him there. That would be bad, very bad.
He's a little surprised when Lea decides instead to sit next to him, close enough they aren't quite touching, but once he leans into it they're there. It's just that Lea is a lot warmer than the cold air around them.
Demyx gives him a genuine looking smile.]
Just...do you think you could stay with me awhile? I don't want to freeze to death again. I'm not any good at this. I never had to get stuff myself. Not long if you don't want to, just...
[He can't leave Demyx here. He can't. That's always been Lea's problem: he can never just leave anyone well enough alone. Because if he does, then he will be alone.]
[Being alone, for Lea, is unspeakable horror.]
[He looks up at Demyx, and after about one sentence, starts nodding. Part of him is agreeing because he genuinely does like the Nobody and wants to help out, and that's great and all -- but another part of him is agreeing because he's a selfish bastard, and being alone in the snow is a very special kind of hell.]
