TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW...
Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.

TWO: CABIN FEVER
Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING
You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.

FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING
You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

[At first he wasn't going to say anything. Maybe it was just a mistake. A bad reaction to the constant cold and hunger and pressure. But it's been days of harassment and this is getting to be too much. He has to tell someone. If only to confirm his suspicions.]

You know how they say that three's a magic number? Well, that's the third weird shadow I've come across today. Or nearly come across. It's just a bit too fast for me. Shy, maybe.

[Or stalking him. And there are only so many people around. After so many repeated cases of this not-quite-tag, it's starting to make a whole lot more sense why that is.]

I'd say it's cute, but we're way past cute. Some else want to clue me in here? I can't be the only one they're into.

[3]

"Oh, thank God." Tony thought he was talking to an empty room. An escape from the constant, horrible cold that never seemed to let up in the town. It had gotten so bad he was beginning to think that he was just becoming part of it. Like the town, he was going to lose all of the heat in his body, forget how to feel anything, and end up a stiff figure. Another dark building. But then he stumbled onto the house with actual food (meager, but there) and even a fireplace! At last, a real source of heat. He was so numb from wandering around it actually took him several minutes to realize that he wasn't alone in the room. He was crouched by the fireplace, trying to figure out how he was going to light a fire in it, when the hair on the back of his neck stood up. Survival instinct slowly crept back into his nerves as the shelter warmed them and he turned around sharply. He gripped one of the small logs defensively, because he didn't know how long that other presence had been watching him. Why hadn't he noticed someone standing there? Oh, of course. Because he was offline.

Just another reason to hate that town.

"Who are you?" That seemed like a fair question to be asking the stranger. Start with introductions first, right? Maybe they were like him and just looking for a place to escape the snow. Please, don't want a fight. He doesn't know if he could fight someone at this point, but he isn't going back outside. "Um, you wouldn't happen to have a light, would you? Just. You know. Gonna borrow it if you do."

[4]

He was dead. He was pretty sure he was dead. That was generally what happened to people who were stupid enough to wander right into death traps without remembering it was dark outside. But then, people generally didn't wake up after being impaled and find themselves lying on a morgue slab either. So he should have been dead, but Tony realized as he collected his thoughts that somehow he was actually alive. He shakily pulled up his shirt only to find that the wound he'd received was closed over and nothing but a scar. What was happening?

The tablet didn't give him time to consider that much. It was telling him to leave, and to be honest he didn't need the urgent warning to make him want to go. He practically ran out of the room, fleeing the morgue and heading anywhere else. For once he was shivering from something other than the cold. He looked back, still wondering how he was even able to walk again, and ran right into something solid.

Another person. Another living soul.

He was so grateful for that he didn't even consider why that other person might be there. He started rambling impulsively, telling the stranger he was glad to see them - glad to see anyone, really - and that they needed to leave, when he realized he hadn't actually said anything at all.

Shit.

Well, so much for not panicking. The other person unfortunate enough to end up at the morgue now had one very persistent man gripping them by the shoulders. At least they made a friend? Sort of.

Dying wasn't such a surprise. Without Noi, Shin's recklessness was going to get him killed sooner or later. It's a surprise waking up again.

Or at least he thinks he's waking up again. Everything is still black, but maybe it's just dark. He sits up and feels his way off the surface he's sitting on, waiting for his eyes to adjust, but they never do. He tries rubbing them a few times, but stops when he hears the shuffle of footsteps and the rasp of nervous breathing. Shin turns towards the sounds, but unable to see, doesn't move out of the way before two hands land on his shoulders and he gets shaken back and forth.

His automatic reaction is to punch where he guesses his assailant's face is and shout, "Fuck off!"

New friendships, indeed.

And that is the first impression Tony has of the people he's run into in person. The instant he grabs onto the stranger he's sent flailing on the floor thanks to the fist to the face and he can't even yell about it. Luckily, the stranger just punched him. Tony picks himself off of the morgue floor and reminds himself that he doesn't know what he's going to run into in this town. For all he knew, the other guy could have been armed.

Okay. Try again, then.

He stands up and tries to tell this person that he doesn't mean any harm. He's just trying to find a way out of the morgue, damn it, because they have to go according to his tablet. But what he actually does is wave his arms at Shin in a silent mime of exaggerated gestures - searching with a hand shielding his eyes, waving toward the hallways in various directions, and pointing at Shin and then at himself - with a serious expression. He might stomp his foot in all of that, too. He's frustrated.

He'd tell the guy that he didn't mean to startle him, but he did just get punched so he doesn't really think he owes him that much. Instead, Tony holds up his tablet that is still beeping at him with its message. He stares impatiently at the stranger. Maybe he'll figure it out. If he doesn't, this time he's going to be ready for the next incoming punch.

He hears beeping, heavy breathing—after his fist connects, that is, which sets him a little more at ease. If he can land a hit even in this darkness, he's not at a total loss.

Speaking of the darkness, Shin tries again to blink, but nothing works. Even the flurry of movement he can hear happening in front of him (but at a safe distance) can't be registered.

A suspicion rises in his mind. Shin turns his head toward the beeping, and... nothing still. He brings his hand to his face, then nearly pokes himself in the eye in his attempts to see his fingertips.

Ah, dammit. He really can't see right now. Shin scowls mightily before turning his head back toward where he thinks the beeping is coming from.

"Hey, you there. Who are you?"

The girl woke up in the morgue, just like Tony had. She was incredibly alarmed by her surroundings, and by the fact that she had no idea what she was doing there. The tablet buzzed, drawing her attention, and she noticed that it was logged in under the username 'hawkeye2,' but that name was meaningless to the girl. She didn't have time to figure out anything else, because the device told her to leave. Leave? And go where?

A dog trotted up to the girl, it's tail wagging in greeting. She'd never seen it before in her life, she was pretty sure. "You poor thing..." Crouching down, she gave it a scratch behind it's ear. It only had one eye, and according to its ID tag, the dog's name was Lucky.

The tablet buzzed at her again, this time more insistently, and so the girl rose to leave. The dog followed, and she found that she didn't mind.

When she exited the morgue's lobby, she stood and squinted at the blinding white landscape. Okay... this was vaguely familiar. The freezing, the cold, the isolation. She remembered being lost here, but she still didn't remember her own name, or why there was a dog following her around.

A man stumbled into the girl, startling her, but she was just as relieved to see him as he was to see her. She didn't know him. She'd never seen him in her life.

"Hey.. hi. Are you okay?" The girl's eyebrows drew together when she noticed the man's odd behavior. Was he trying to speak? He looked agitated. Maybe he was injured, but when she gave the rest of him a cursory glance, he seemed to be okay. "What's your name?"

He was genuinely relieved when he ran into a familiar face. Even though he nearly barreled right over her in his hurry to escape the morgue, Tony sighed in relief when he realized that this was another living person and one that he knew. Except that her response was strange. After some initial attempts to communicate with her, Kate was just looking at him like he was a stranger she had accidentally run into on the street. As if they could even do that in this weird town. He forgot himself for a moment and frantically tried to tell her that they should go. Maybe once they were away from the morgue he could figure out what was wrong with her. She spoke up then, and each question made his stomach sink a little more. Are you okay? What's your name?

He slapped his palm against his forehead at that one, dragging his hand down his face. No way. Just no way was she asking him that. He raised his arms as if to give her a better look at himself. What was his name?

Deep breathes, Tony. He could do this. Really. Maybe it was just waking up. Maybe she was disoriented, or he was, and this would all clear up soon. Maybe he'd get his voice back and then he could scream with the frustration he was feeling. His irritated expression turned to something more pathetic. He grabbed at her wrist, trying to pull her down a hall which he hoped would just get them out of the morgue. If they just got out, maybe the effects would just... wear off. This would all probably go better if he could just explain to her his plan, but at the moment it seemed explaining anything was out of the question.

Actually the number 7 seems to be considered more sacred or "lucky." In eastern cultures it's actually 108 or 72, depending on who you ask. Or the number 9, seen as more like a godly number, essentially made up of three number 3's.

Absolutely clueless about the shadows, though. That's just odd.

[Well wasn't that just so helpful.]

Nothing against traditional beliefs, but I don't really think this is lucky by any definition.

How can you miss the shadows? They're not exactly subtle. Quick, sure, but they

They definitely want you to know that they're there. I think that they're spying on us.

[personal profile] anygoodstories 2015-05-15 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Likely not. But it never hurts to broaden your horizons!

I mean, there are shadows-- we haven't stumbled into some sort of two-dimensional perception of the world-- but they certainly aren't moving. Or speaking. Or sentient. At least not here. Do they intend to report back to Hades?

Yeah, until it kills you. Or traps you in a creepy isolated town.

How do I know YOU aren't working with the ones that brought me here? I mean, you're taking this pretty well for someone trapped in the town of eternal winter. Maybe you're really one of them and you're just trying to lull me into a false sense of security.

Oh yes, the man wearing glasses in a bloody snowstorm and living amongst stacks of papers and talking about the cultural relevance of NUMBERS is the one controlling the shadows like some sort of supernatural marionette. Wake up, world! Can't you see what's obviously right in front of your eyes?

Sorry I'm not one to throw a tantrum every time something cold falls from the sky. I never would've survived my childhood otherwise.
houseplant: (...I am Groot.)

[personal profile] houseplant 2015-05-15 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Groot is sitting, hunched in the corner of the room around his tablet. Hoping to absorb whatever faint heat the machine might give off. When he hears Tony's voice, he glances upward. His face is slightly different than the last time Tony saw him (it never seems to grow back quite the same way) and he isn't nude. Instead, he's garbed in his old Guardian uniform - from back when they still had uniforms.

He's stuck in sort of a tough place right now - being a plant, he doesn't exactly do well in extremely cold temperatures. On the other hand, though, he doesn't exactly do well in the presence of fire, either. On top of that, he doesn't even create any body heat naturally, so insulating himself with blankets is doing remarkably little to help.

Needless to say, he isn't in a very good mood. It's a mood that gets notably worse when the words 'who are you' come out of Tony's mouth. Fortunately, there's really only one answer to that question, and it's exactly the sort of answer that Groot is capable of giving.

"I am Groot."
definingfuture: (T - Nothing beside remains.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2015-05-16 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
He's numb and nervous, practically slinking in out of the cold like a stray animal. When Groot speaks, Tony jumps and nearly scrambles back from the large figure hunched in the corner. It's an instinctive response, but once he gets a better look at the figure, he doesn't really drop his guard.

"Oh. Uh, hi."

Yeah, that was a lame response. But he's still so cold and unsteady that he can't muster up much strength behind his reactions. Without the immediate threat of death to worry about, Tony deflates in front of the fireplace. He's already on his knees, having fallen ungracefully in fear and only just managed to collect himself. At least he manages to give Groot a weak smile. Mostly because he knows how ridiculous he looks.

"But do you have a light? No, no, of course not. We're probably going to freeze in here. You know that, right? Just freeze if we don't get a fire going."
