✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: TURN AROUND
It's after lockdown, but not early enough to go to sleep. You've got everything sorted out, and now you're bored. Time to video chat on the network! Everything's fine from where you are... But unfortunately, there's something behind you. Something humanoid and creeping closer inch by inch, trying to sneak up on you without you noticing. Maybe the person you're talking to will let you know about that. The only problem? If you do turn around to look, you won't be able to see it. If your tablet friend can convince you to move to a different room and close the door, everything will be fine. If they can't, well, they'll be watching you get dragged off into the darkness before too long.

TWO: CAUGHT ON FILM
Normally, this doesn't happen. In fact, normally it never happens. However, something has gone a bit wrong today, and the tablets are turning on and off by themselves. This makes for some pretty disjointed conversations, with people popping in and out at the worst times. And, of course, someone might see you doing something you'd prefer they didn't see.
NOTE: Please don't post anything sexual in regards to this prompt. While in-game the network doesn't allow for accidental posts, we thought you guys could have fun with it here!

Action Prompts
THREE: HORROR HOSPITAL
After a long trek through the ice tunnels, you've finally reached the hospital! You've just stepped inside to see what there is to see... And the door locks behind you. Looks like it's curfew, and guess where you're spending the night? The atmosphere is oppressive and the tablets don't work quite right, but this is probably better than being outside. Maybe you'll have some company with you? And there are probably beds somewhere.

FOUR: OKAY GUYS QUICK POLL
You've run into some good luck--you've just found a blanket! It's soft and warm and if you fold it right, you're sure it will fit into your backpack. You're sure, but you can't tell, because it's already stuffed full of things. You're going to have to pick and choose what should stay and what should go... But hey, there are other people around! Maybe they can help you sort out your supplies! Maybe you can give them some of the stuff you can't carry! Maybe you can steal their backpack so you can carry more! The options are endless!

Network. Prompt 1.

[It took a while to calm the fuck down after arriving here enough to think about using the network to talk. Even if it's not that late, Josh is pretty... exhausted, thoroughly taxed, and both looks and sounds it, on the tablet.

'Least he can focus at all at this point.

He... chuckles. Kinda forced. Rubs his eyes, and then his temples, and theeen...

Let's see what we can do.]

'S a -- a shit way to pass a frosty night away from home, all -- shacked up, in... fifty different fallout shelters over the whole ghost-town map.

Anyone -- anyone out there uh, have... anything? [He lifts a finger and absently shakes his head. He's not sure what word he actually means by "anything" and isn't focused enough to care.] I mean -- all it'd take is a D.I.Y. C.A.H. deck and a good five-plus of us logged in to make the night into more than waiting for boredom and the onset of cabin fever to take us all away. Right?

[The "right" said with a slightly "gone" laugh - and one of the shadows in the room behind him pulling back like a man hiding behind a curtain.]

Action. Prompt 3.

[Well. Guess who really doesn't like hospitals.

Josh heads through the door with a lowered stance, brow skewed and eyes sharp, trying to keep the unease at doing anything here at bay with

When the door locks, he freezes, hustles up to it, pulls it a few times. Mouth twists. Pulls it a couple more, harder.]

I --

[Looks at it. Considers pulling it a couple times, and then... right. Curfews. Sighs out through his nose and turns around, hand scrubbing at the back of his neck.]

Guess we're -- we're... not going anywhere else, tonight...

[That bit was just... said. Kind of. To keep his head on straight, as it were. This next bit's directed at you, yes, you, whoever's accompanied him on wandering in, with a quick sideways glance and a shake of his head, trailing, steadily pacing in and looking over the lobby.]

The weak... aaaaand the wicked.

[Huzzah for trying to distance yourself from a horror scene waiting to happen by invoking references. He'll play your game, place, whatever it is, if there's one.]
maskintape: (when that happens the sun will)

@TW; video; #1!

[personal profile] maskintape 2015-09-17 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Maybe it's the hopeless monotony getting to him after being here over a month. Maybe he can see something of himself in the whole weird, haunted thing the other guy has going on. Maybe it's Maybelline. Whatever. All Tim knows for sure is that it's cold (like always) and dark (like always) and suddenly a round of Cards against Snowmanity seems like the greatest goddamn idea he's heard in his life.

He's so distracted by the notion that he doesn't really pay the shadow much heed. He's hallucinating again. Big whoop. Must be a day ending in y.
]

I - if we can make it work, count me in. If I can make room in my schedule, I mean. Pretty sure I can set back my 'shivering my ass off' appointment for an hour or two, so...

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-18 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
[It's probably Maybelline, let's be real. But he knows that feel, bro.

Speaking of bro, this...! Is normal and friendly enough that he gives a smile and edge of a light laugh that he doesn't need to work at. Not so much, anyhow.]

Skip out on -- all of those you can.

[He shrugs a little, rubbing at a wrist somewhere below the screen. And on the screen, a little black thing comes back into view, peeeeering ever closer in.]

Necessity's the mother of invention, bro. Way to make anything work.

Probably something better than that for the perpetually-divided party that We of Norfinbury look like we got here, too, I mean if -- you got any ideas. Unless you do, hey -- consider it in my plans to... to work some shit out.

And like -- if you know of anyone else who'd be game, hey, maybe we could get some, uh -- collabing on cards going.
maskintape: (who can talk by radio)

[personal profile] maskintape 2015-09-18 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Since it's not like we can - we can shuffle up a deck or whatever, maybe if we ju--

[ As the shadowy thing continues its creepy creeper business, it occurs to Tim that his hallucinations are usually more... immediate. He's never hallucinated anything via video before - checking video footage is usually a way to reliably tell whether or not the things he's seeing are all in his head.

Which means that this is potentially Very Not Good, Not Even A Little Bit.
]

I - uh, hey, don't. Don't wig out on me, but you, uh. You might want to switch rooms. If you can.

[ If the guy's in one of the buildings with only one usable room, of course, he's going to be shit out of luck. Which is why Tim isn't telling him to look over his shoulder just yet. ]

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-22 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Expectantly, he lifts his brow, and opens his mouth a tad to start with "Maybe if we what?"

...But. That. Sends the impression that something is very not right, yeah.

Nothing like that followed by the words Don't wig out on me to slide things right back out of whack.]

...Awwright?

[The direction his current paranoia's swinging favors the guy on the other end of the line right now, so the question mark on that isn't anything resistant. It's just... totally neutral uncertainty and mossst definitely discomfort. Christ, the heck is it now...

Shakes his head just a little – eyes scanning around him. And not catching the black shadowy thing before it draws back again, bunching itself away and out of sight in time for him to spin to look behind him.]
]

Why, what's... What's the deal with this one?

[He’s not waiting for an answer before starting to cross to a doorway, though – still checking between the room and the tablet.]
maskintape: (but don't panic just yet)

[personal profile] maskintape 2015-09-22 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You hear about the shadow things yet?

[ He's making a concentrated effort to keep his face calm and neutral, but there's a definite nervous tension there. Tim fiddles with his tablet before continuing, nodding to himself when he's done. ]

Pretty sure I just spotted one, but. You can judge, man. Sent you the footage.

Might wanna close the door on it before you check it out, though.

[ And then barricade it and cross your fingers and try not to have a panic attack. Those too. ]

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-23 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
I hear about -

[In its own weird way, the tension settles Josh a little - at least it assures Josh there's something actual and immediate to be concerned with. At the corner of his mouth, his teeth are exposed. A hoo, boy, this is gonna be bad, isn't it sneer...

And the whole room for isn't it still is all the more aggravating, because shoot he didn't even see the thing!]

Ah - all right. Message received.

I-I, like... thanks, man.

[And shutting the door he's gone through the fuck behind him. And shaking his head in restlessness.

Lifts a finger.]

Umm. Hold on, uh, like -- my signal's gonna go dead for a couple, maybe. [He dunno how all this works yet.] I'm gonna -- I'm gonna take a look at that. That -- the footage.

Action!

[personal profile] bookofnope 2015-09-17 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume that one of these titles was not meant to be insulting?

[Doors that lock on their own and shut you inside creepy abandoned places have been part of Beckett's unlife for about as long as he'd been, well, un-alive. He is not remotely bothered, except by the ongoing issue of having to sleep during the night, and barely spares his frightened a companion more than an arched eyebrow before continuing his sweep of the room. Beds, how lovely.]

Whether there are threats in here or not, there's nothing we can do about it. [His tone is dry and confident, rather the antithesis to Josh's dismay. Beckett doesn't do sympathy as such for people's fears, but he does provide some practical advice about how they can keep from actually dying, if he does say so himself.] But we can secure a perimeter. Hospitals tend to be excellent places to come up with improvised weapons, in my experience...

[He trails off, turning slightly toward Josh to fix him with expectant eyes. Don't ask how he knows about improvised weapons in hospitals. Chances are you don't want to know.] Bone saw? [One corner of his mouth quirks up in half a toothy grin.]

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-18 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeahhh Josh hadn't counted on this guy getting the reference.]

Sesh --

[And while Beckett's apparent confidence in their situation contrasts with Josh's position neatly on-edge, ahh, the dryness, the latter can manage in a spot like this. Thoroughly.]

Session 9, man.

[Nah, don't get him wrong, Josh is not expecting sympathy, especially when he might be better at acting chill-as-heck himself if he was with someone less who the heck is this guy than... this guy, in the first place. So. Listen but physically detach. Let's make... something fairly a'ight out of this. Slow wandering, taking mental inventory of the room, checking for any already-open doors that might have something concerning behind them.

No need to ask, though, he'd have a load of faith in a hospital's ability to provide impromptu weaponry.

Turns his head and quirks his brow on that grin, then pulls his eyes back away and drops in his comment re: a bonesaw:]

Yes, please.

[Short answer. Easy to drop with some put-on nonchalance.]
bookofnope: (the skeptic)

Shall we say we're on the first floor?

[personal profile] bookofnope 2015-09-18 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now that's better. Beckett nods slightly in acknowledgement at Josh's pulling himself together, and passes the other man the only-somewhat-rusted bonesaw. He's not terribly thrilled himself at having a roommate for the night - he already has a hard enough time getting to sleep in these hours without someone else puttering around him, someone he doesn't trust on first sight anymore than he does, well, anyone. But there have been infinitely worse situations, and anyway, why complain when you can spend your time productively sniffing around?

He picks a couple of small scalpels for himself, the closest thing in the drawer of surgical tools to the daggers he favours when forced to resort to melee weapons. They go up his sleeves, and he glances back to see how Josh is holding the bonesaw, namely, whether he has any idea how to hold it to turn the tool into a weapon.]

You'll have to explain that one, I'm afraid. I do hope it isn't some horror film reference; that would be embarrassing. [Should he let Josh know that he is, in fact, stuck overnight in an abandoned hospital with an old vampire who hasn't fed in days? Probably not.]

[He gestures at the operating theatre's beds instead.] We could move these to block the door, but I would prefer to have an exit open. And a bed is a terrible thing to waste in these circumstances.

Works for me!

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-22 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fake-casually drawls "Thaaaank you" at the saw. Pauses halfway turned toward a wall, turning it over...

Better they've got it than anything else, certainly.

Annnd as far as Josh is concerned, better he's got it than a condescending for-all-intents-and-purposes stranger; the lack of trust goes both ways. But it looks like they're also on the same page with regards to how they ought to be doing this.

Josh is still examining the saw, with thoughtfully-narrowed eyes; not really "rehearsing" with it. Also still not exactly paying Beckett full focus. On the horror movie thing, he gives a lazy repartee:]

I ain't ashaaamed, yo.

[Further demonstrated by the use of "yo", one supposes.

And he could absolutely explain that one, but. Business potentially pertaining to survival first.]

Guess so.

Would be pretty sad, though, man, if those were the only damn beds in the place, but -- the exit? I agree with.

Not so much worried about anything breaking in, anyway.

[Not that couldn't do it with or without a barricade, at least.

Nnnope, it's what could already be crawling around here that seems more immediately worth minding.]
bookofnope: (the skeptic)

[personal profile] bookofnope 2015-09-22 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alas, condescending is Beckett's default. He is not terribly troubled, himself, with letting Josh have the bigger weapon; even without his normal abilities, he knows his own skill, and counts himself a reasonably good judge of people. And right now he judges that Josh, like him, is mostly looking to survive the night without running into any of the dozen things one would expect to run into in a deserted hospital.

He may be slightly biased, however, due to mild contempt for horror movie fans.]

While it would certainly be fun to be rescued by a buxomy blonde with an axe - or is it the brunette who is supposed to survive? I can never remember.

[The sarcasm is abundantly clear. As he speaks he goes about the next order of business, which is to pass carefully along the walls of the operating theatre, looking for anything that might betray another way in or out. This may have started out as an ordinary hospital, but one can never be too careful, and old habits die hard.]

Either way, I wouldn't gamble on it. Would you kindly see if there are any other sharp objects that we might want to immobilize before they fly at us of their own mysterious will?
itsasteamroller: (pic#9429082)

@DIO | video | #1

[personal profile] itsasteamroller 2015-09-18 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Huh. Was this young man...alright? (Young man, he thinks, as if he also doesn't look like he's in his early 20s) Dio's never seen him before, so he might be new, and it looks as if he's already having a terrible time of adjust...ing...?

What was that, near the curtains? That was certainly strange... Maybe if he kept the video feed going, he could see it move again. Anyways...]

I'm sorry, what kind of deck? [Curse these young people and their liberal use of acronyms.]

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-18 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[While oblivious to one-sided perception of generational difference here, 'ey - for what it's worth, he's pretty steady and clear on his answer to that.]

C.A.H.

Cards Against Humanity. It's a party game.

[He nods, with his head fallen to the side a little.

Ee-yup. He's peachy.

And has a black shape poking its... head? back out from where it had ducked.

Josh assesses the tablet as he talks about it, just looking back in flickers at the screen - even if Dio pegs the shadow movement quickly, iiit'd be a moment or two before Josh sees him do it.]

We got these tablets; there - [Shakes his head. Half-sleepily and half-restlessly as opposed to negatively.] - there've gotta be countless ways you can get -- some hanging-out in, with distant survival buddies, here, be-besides just using, like... one-on-one text, calls, and facetime as they are.

[And the shadow's slunk out from behind its little hiding/peeking spot. Slowly moving one shadowy step forward.

Josh quirks his brow. Looks back up properly.]

Like -- ...hey.

You been here, for... -- long? At -- ...at all?
itsasteamroller: (pic#9202854)

[personal profile] itsasteamroller 2015-09-18 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a good thing Josh is finally looking back at Dio because he definitely seems to be looking past Josh, at something. What on Earth is that thing? Was it one of those monsters? He's never personally seen one before, and it's moving so slow and deliberately too.]

Er... Yes. Almost a month, from my count.

[Gee Josh, what could this dude possibly be distracted by? If only someone here would actually point out what they're seeing. Too bad that someone is more curious about the monster than saving your ass.]

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-22 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[That...

Yeah, a definite... creeping edge of nervousness. Suspicion. Part of his thoughts insist you're trying to mess with me (exactly how and exactly why, he doesn't know, but strangers are certainly free to try trolling strangers), but he still... licks his lips and casts a glance over his shoulder. Not far enough.]

Okay, so... like --

How-how often we get -- [He lifts a crooked finger. Points down to emphasize, partly, and partly as a "hold that thought" to himself.] -- like... more than a couple people in one spot?

[Glances over the other shoulder. Still not far enough to catch the shadow that pulls a to the side like some sortova spooky bullfighter.]

Like, if-if ever?
tweeting: (15)

yooo i'm not apping here cause i'm already in game with a different character but hi

[personal profile] tweeting 2015-09-18 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[potential UD spoilers up in here]

[Chris had been reluctant to head out with Josh.

Working through the stuff they'd been through? It wasn't going to be easy, and this place didn't help. Like, at all.

So, when they realize they're trapped for the night, he panics a little. Not noticeably, not really, but he pushes past Josh to tug on the door himself -- he wouldn't put it past him to pretend they're stuck, honestly -- but when the door doesn't budge, he exhales sharply and steps back.]

Yeah.

Yeah, it'll be fine. What's safer than a hospital, right? We'll just-- just, like, find somewhere to bunk down for the night. We'll be okay.

Sorry for the late tag back - 'lo there to you, too, and heh, not a problem!

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-22 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ee-yeah, much as he figures he can count himself lucky to be chilling with Chris at all, this... hasn't felt great. Heck, he didn't think he was even going to get to see Chris again, but while he knows he's far from blameless (to put it ever-so-mildly), it's a contributor to the fact that it feels... like a cheat, almost. That here they are, and that his once-oldest and strongest friendship isn't right there, between them.

That said. Focus on this, the fix they're in - see if they can work on some of it in the process.

More than some is likely to take more than one misadventure.

Fucking around any more with Chris hasn't crossed his mind, though, ain't nobody got energy for that in the small- and larger-scale position they're in. Watches Chris go for the door with some curiosity.

Head lolls in something not quite a nod when he finishes.]

Probably.

[Said with a lift of his brow and in his inflection. "Probably."

Probably not helping much at maintaining any ease there is here.]

Gotta be plenty of places, just gotta find, like -- don't know if I want somewhere that's both bunk and bunker or -- somewhere that... the air moves through.

[Somewhere not excessively boxed-in or oppressive, that is. Being here is... really unsettling, as it is, brr.]

whats cah is it a game? im guessing its a game since you said it was a deck!
im not sure how we could get our hands on a game and all play together from other sides of the town but
maybe we could play something like truth or dare or twenty questions!
or maybe turn on video and do I spy or something that might be fun

by the way
is there someone in the room with you?

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-22 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hel-lo... text! Pauses a moment - leans in a little closer to read it.

Mumbles "'S right" at the end of the first line. "True" on the second.

Lifts his brow over still-pretty-tired eyes and nods approvingly at the end of four.]

All awesome ideas.

[Really - anything's anything right now! Starting points, at the very least... But then, what's that down there...

..."By the way" --

Huh. Umm.

Heart thumps. C'mon, don't go getting anxious yet. Just...

He lifts a finger.]
Uh -- nnnooo, it's.

Pretty sure it was just me in here, uh. What?

[He meant "why", and he inflected it like "why", and he's curious and most definitely starting to feel uncomfortable enough that he glances around the walls next to him, tosses one sharp 'n quick look over his shoulder. The shadow takes cover at the last of those.]

Understandable given their circumstances, but it didn't exactly make her feel good about herself after the millionth time of "ARE YOU A MONSTER?"]

i dont wanna scare you or anything but
i keep seeing something going on behind you!
its like a shadowy figure or something and

Action Prompt 3

[personal profile] skelepuns 2015-09-20 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Sans watched as Josh struggled with the door. Whoops, guess he should've kept a better track of the time. He shrugged in response.]

i don't get it. am I the weak one or the wicked one here?

[Guess who is a short skeleton that doesn't understand references to human things? THIS GUY.]

why don't we just find some beds or couches or something and hit the sack? not much else we can do at this point.

[personal profile] goregies 2015-09-22 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[A year or two ago, the surrealism of traversing icy grounds and ghost towns with someone who is a short skeleton might've been darkly hilarious, but right now, it's more feeding a relatively-thin, relatively-well-buried, but nonetheless rather hot and concentrated layer of hysteria. His voice is throaty with tiredness and coping-disengagement, the latter of which at least does its part keeping it easy to speak glibly.]

Mm, whichever one you want, Skele-bro.

[A quick thought of huh pulls him to throw Sans a quick look, though. In all his short, skeletal-ness, in a dilapidated hospital, hoo-hoo, life sure has gotten cinematic, and not in an a fun way, in this kind of mood.]

If a guy like you has to hit the sack -- 'n I've learned something new today.
skelepuns: (wink.)

[personal profile] skelepuns 2015-09-22 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
well, neither one of those descriptions fits me, so I'll go with 'neither'.

[Sans was picking up a bit on the weird vibe from Josh. He wasn't sure what was causing the weird speech... maybe it was stress, maybe it was being in the presence of a monster skeleton, maybe he was just that tired. Either way, Sans was going to make an effort to play it cool, make things less tense.]

people here seem to have a lot of misconceptions about what skeletons are like. sleeping is one of my number one hobbies. it's a great way to pass the time in the blink of an eyesocket.

[The skeleton gave a little wink.]

anyway, we should find someplace safe to stay the night. unless you'd rather be on your own, bud. it's up to you.
