TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW...
Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.

TWO: CABIN FEVER
Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.

Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING
You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.

FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING
You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

Mm, that's true. And they always were pretty big on making sure there really was something for everyone, whether they liked to gamble or not.

[True enough, the variety for those not gambling wasn't the greatest but still enough to encourage longer stays at the Gold Saucer and thus spend more gil - and all under the guise of a secondary currency that would feel just that little less real to those spending it.

That's the side she doesn't feel much like getting into right now. Instead, a more cheerful question.]

So which was your favourite? Or is that just too much of an obvious question?

[Somehow she can easily see him taking on the Battle Square.]

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-19 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
If I'm there for a vacation?

[Kunsel hums in thought. In some ways, it's almost difficult to reconnect with the way he'd think before he came to this place. With so long spent in the cold, and with so many monsters he can't fight, a mounting frustration makes him want to say the Battle Square. The warmth of the Gold Saucer, the heat of the battle, of a body in action doing what it's trained for, the feel of a weapon doing something useful in his hand. That all sounds far too appealing right now.

But if he's honest about a vacation, about just needing a break...]

The Event Square. No pressure to perform, no one watching you when you're just part of the crowd, no money being spent unless you feel like rewarding the actors. Just you and the story and people to watch. Some of their plays are even half decent.

What about you?

[Will she even answer? Cissnei's always been pretty close-mouthed about herself.]
luckystarlimit: (relaxed)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-19 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. I think I'd have to say the same.

[She's a little surprised at the answer he gives, though she can't quite pin down any good reason for it. She supposes it's just all a part of this not being the sort of thing they talk about too often, even where they talk at all outside of missions where SOLDIER and Turks operate side by side.

She knows there are some who won't even associate beyond that, but she's never been one to let those lines get in her way. In the end, they're all Shinra and that's what matters most to her.

Still doesn't mean she'll give too much away, but Kunsel gets more than most, at least.]

The chocobo races can be fun to watch too, sometimes. Though I'm not sure they'd be my first choice if I was by myself.

[Since half the fun is going with her fellow Turks and finding the most ridiculous reasons to bet on certain chocobos.]
deus_ex_phs: (Smile)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-19 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[To be fair, there aren't too many people out there who know about Kunsel's soft spot for plays. It's really not the kind of thing people expect to hear about a SOLDIER, and he's not particularly interested in getting teased about it.

On the other hand, he doubts Cissnei's too surprised. Anyone who knows him should know his penchant for people-watching. Blending into crowds and watching plays fits right into that.]

Racing, huh? Too unpredictable for me, and nothing you can do to change the outcome. You can look at the numbers and statistics, get all the information you want, but in the end, you just don't know and you're left waiting to see. If I'm going to gamble, I'd rather it be on something where I have a say in if I win or lose.

[She answered, though, and made the answer all the more interesting because she qualified it, too. Racing appealed to her, but only with people. That implies something else.

He lets a teasing note enter his voice.]

But from what it sounds like, you just want to hang out with your friends.
luckystarlimit: (explaining)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-19 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No need to make it sound like such a bad thing.

[She's amused far more than she is anything resembling genuinely defensive about her answer. It's true that she sees the races as far more a bonding experience than anything else but is that really so bad when bonds amongst Turks are one of the most important things they have? She thinks not.

That he's so cautious in his gambling doesn't surprise her, either. She's not sure there's a figure in Shinra, at least below the executives, who doesn't have an element of needing a degree of certainty before diving into anything and why should gambling be any different?

Which leads her to another thought, amusement tinged with just the faintest regret that this can't be anything more than imagined, at least for now.]

Rude's the same. Makes me wonder how you'd fare against one another, though I can't say I wouldn't be biased.
deus_ex_phs: (Stars)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-19 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't say it was a bad thing. I just wanted to hear you call them your friends.

[Turks are always so professional, sometimes even during their downtime, that some people even get the idea that they don't have friends at all. Kunsel's always wanted to call that bluff. She just gave him the opening he needed. And, well, she didn't deny it. That's close enough to an admission for him.]

You're suggesting Rude and I go one-on-one in the Battle Square? Hand-to-hand, or do we get weapons?

[Even if it's just imaginary, it's fun to indulge the idea. Certainly a far cry better than thinking about their situation right now. How would he do, facing off against a Turk, without any SOLDIER enhancements?]
luckystarlimit: (peaceful)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-19 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be doing them a disservice if I did that.

[For Cissnei, even putting professionalism aside, the Turks are far more than just friends to her. They're family, on more than just a sentimental level, and for as much as she might not yell about it there's no questioning her devotion to them, even if she does on occasion slip behind their backs for what she feels to be the greater good.

In that, she's hardly alone.

Her amusement as he mentions a one-on-one in the Battle Square reflects how that wasn't necessarily what she had in mind even before she admits it.]

I was actually thinking outside of the Saucer but sure, I reckon he could take you.

[And then, because he's already managed a tease or two on her and she can't not return the favour:]

I'd say hand to hand, though. Maybe even shirtless...would probably draw more of a crowd that way.
deus_ex_phs: (Explain a thing)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-20 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, of course.

[Nope, he's still going to count that as calling them friends. A different level of friendship, but a level just the same, and one he won't press her to describe in detail. It's enough to call her out on it, keeping the teasing on a lighthearted note.

But of course that means she feels entitled to turn the tables on him.

Heh, two can play at that game. His voice turns dry with poorly suppressed amusement.]

Are you picturing me shirtless, Cissnei?
luckystarlimit: (peaceful)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-20 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, no good having all that muscle and keeping it hidden.

[If he expected her to be at all sorry about her thoughts, he's going to be disappointed. Hard for a girl raised by Turks to be too easily embarrassed and besides, where's the harm in admitting appreciation for a friend's physique.

Not like she wouldn't say exactly the same to Rude, if not worse. In some ways, Kunsel's getting off lightly.]

Who knows, maybe you'd get a fan club of your very own.
deus_ex_phs: (Glad)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-20 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I'm fine with leaving the fan clubs to the Firsts. Fan clubs are good to get information from, but I don't need any information about me.

[Blatantly admitting to trawling through all the fan club gossip? Yes, yes he is. But really, if anyone should understand, it's a Turk.

Despite the warm banter, though, a shiver runs through him, prompting him to tug the thin bathrobe he's been using as a blanket a little bit closer around himself.]

Tell you what, though. We ever wind up in someplace that warm, I'll take my shirt off, just for you. Call it a celebration.

[Hard to sound teasing when he means every word of it. What he wouldn't give to be somewhere that warm right now.]
luckystarlimit: (gotta go)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-20 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You sure? I bet it'd be a real hit.

[Considering he's talking to the Turk largely responsible for at least one of said fan clubs, he needn't worry about admitting that he uses them for information. Even if most of that information isn't all that useful in the grander scheme of things, it all helps to drive the more positive image of Shinra and Cissnei's not sorry to be a part of that.

Unseen by him, the comment about ending up somewhere warm enough for him to go shirtless sends a deeper shiver through her, sharp reminder of exactly where she is and why. Still, her tone holds warmth her body's losing, determined to let humour carry her as long as possible.]

I'm holding you to that. And we Turks have long memories.
deus_ex_phs: (Explain a thing)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-21 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe, maybe not. Definitely more likely to be a "not" if I don't get a shower and a shave in first.

[Even taking great care with the cheap disposable razor he'd found, it's really just not the same. He looks scruffy, and he knows it, and it's only minor consolation that almost everyone else in the town looks and smells as bad as him.]

But if those are on the table, then I'll let you look as long as you want. SOLDIER honor.

[There it is again, that amused tone of his voice, humor the best shield they have against the cold. Even if he doesn't know just how dire her circumstances are, he's willing to give her that much.]
luckystarlimit: (gotta go)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-21 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah but what if rugged survivalist is the in look this season?

[She knows what he's referring to, knows it's very difficult to keep on top of what had once been basic routines and that it can even be difficult to care when there are other things taking priority.

It's an adjustment she's still making, but still something she knows she has to adapt to.]
deus_ex_phs: (Smile)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-21 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Then the fashion industry is insane. Or fangirls are insane. But then I guess that neither of those would be anything new.

[The declaration comes readily and cheerfully. They're well-worn facts, comfortable and familiar, and so perfect for a night like this.]

If that's really what's in when we get back, then I guess it's a good thing SOLDIERs don't have to worry about fashion, because I'm ditching this look first chance I get.
luckystarlimit: (gotta go)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-22 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
No, I suppose not. But then who or what isn't a little crazy, on Gaia?

[Even the seemingly most stable people she knows have their foibles, which she supposes is either product of Shinra or testament to the kinds of people they employ. Or both.

The rest earns a soft laugh that's in something like agreement all the same.]

There are benefits to a uniform. Still, you're not allowed to entirely get rid of the rugged look until I've seen it for myself. Maybe you suit a bit of stubble.

[Granted he probably has a bit more than "a bit" but that's not about to deter her.]
deus_ex_phs: (Heh)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-22 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough.

[From the dry amusement in Kunsel's voice, Cissnei can probably guess that Kunsel chose those particular words deliberately. It's a pun Zack's abused before, and Kunsel absolutely won't regret it if it brings the SOLDIER First to Cissnei's mind. If anyone's a case study for being a little crazy, Zack's definitely on that list.]

You know I could just as easily take a picture and send it to you.

[Or he could turn the video on this thing on, but he's always been a little paranoid about that. He doesn't know people's motives here (the kidnappers or the others kidnapped with him) and doesn't want to give them a face to paint a target on if he can help it. Especially not with the mako-glow that's still in his eyes.]
luckystarlimit: (peaceful)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-22 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[He can't see her rolling her eyes at his obvious pun; even for Zack being something of a touchy subject for her she does remember him making that very same joke more times than she cares to count and she can only imagine that Kunsel heard it far more frequently for being in the same department.

But she won't focus on that, instead latching onto the mention of sending the picture. Even so, there's a trace of amusement lingering in her tone that isn't just for her teasing him now.]

You could. But that wouldn't be the same. Besides, that's just one more reason to keep hoping our paths cross sometime.

[Because for all she tries to keep her spirits up, even she gets lonely without seeing a familiar face in person for long stretches of time.]

((ooc: Just a quick heads-up, I'll be away this weekend but am planning on picking this up/getting a reserve in once I get back, just so you don't think I've vanished!))
deus_ex_phs: (Explain a thing)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-23 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's tempting, really tempting, to crack a joke about whether or not he should worry about a Turk trying to find him, but that? That's cutting it a little too close to home with Zack and Cloud asleep in the next room. He knows that the circumstances are different here, that any orders that might or might not be on the plate back home are void until they actually get back there, that survival is more important right now, but sometimes it's just better not to poke a spot that might still be sore.

But that's okay. There's other ways to keep this in the vein of lame humor.]

First you want to see me and see how hot I am. Then you want our paths to meet. Is that an offer for a moonlit walk together with me sometime?

[No, he's not serious, but Cissnei's more than welcome to shoot him down for that right now.]

((ooc: Got it. Thanks for the heads up! Ah, I'm really excited and looking forward to Cissnei joining the game!))
luckystarlimit: (peaceful)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-27 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[She could shoot him down, but she can't help but think there's something in the way he jokes about her finding him that reflects an entirely valid concern, even as she has no reason to hurt anyone right now and certainly not friendly faces from home.

Other departments don't know about the order Tseng gave that fateful day. It would have been far too risky if they had. But that's not to say there isn't a part of Cissnei that regrets that having to be so, now.

Humour it is, then, as the buffer they both need because things are unpleasant enough out here without making things worse.]

Might be. Guess that all depends on how you play your cards in the meantime, hmm?
deus_ex_phs: (Looking up)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-10-28 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's probably a cautionary tale out there somewhere about playing cards with a Turk, but this is just friendly banter. Where's the danger in that?]

Great. Now I just have to figure out how to go outside at night without it killing us, and hope we can see the moon.

[But details. Details he doesn't know might hit particularly close to home with Cissnei right now. Later, if her name shows up on the obituary list, Kunsel will realize just how close she played her cards to her chest.

Then he'll really understand that cautionary tale.]
luckystarlimit: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-10-29 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe we find a place with a good view of the moon and take our walk there.

[She's not cruel enough to point out that she could show him right now, knows there's no point in telling him when there's nothing he could do anyway. His company, distant as it is, certainly helps but she still knows, ultimately, there's only so much it can do.

The rest will have to come from her, for as long as she can manage it. If that means skirting certain truths, so be it.]
deus_ex_phs: (Explain a thing)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-11-01 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Stay warm and indoors and still enjoy the moon and your company? I could get behind a plan like that.

[Well, you know. For a given definition of warm. It's still pretty frigid inside.]

Let's make that our plan, then, if we ever meet up.
luckystarlimit: (peaceful)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-11-01 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure we will, unless you're that good at covering your tracks.

[Now she has more of a reason to seek him out, she can't imagine that there won't be some sign somewhere of a path he's been on and from there, all she needs to do is follow the trail until she finds him.

And if anyone can follow a trail, it's a Turk.]
deus_ex_phs: (Heh)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2015-11-02 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, that's not ominous at all.]

Who says I'm trying to cover my tracks?

[Who needs to, given how good a job at that the daily snowfall is doing?]

Who says I won't find your tracks first?
luckystarlimit: (gotta go)

[personal profile] luckystarlimit 2015-11-02 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
If you manage that, I'd say you're in the wrong department.

[She's trained at covering her tracks and she's small, which she will always work to her advantage whenever and however she can.]
