Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW... Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.
TWO: CABIN FEVER Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.
Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.
FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?
[She reads it carefully, then reads it again. It feels like a lot, when she's shivering and so hungry, but it's far better than lying down in the snow and freezing to death.]
Thank you, Kunsel. I'll let you know how it goes.
[The next message comes a while later, and Tifa's smiling again. She points the camera towards her newly built den. It isn't the nicest shelter, but it'll do, and all that exercise warmed her up at least.]
[Kunsel's just as glad he's stuck with text so far. It would be impossible with video, and difficult with audio, to hide the dread he's feeling right now otherwise. No one's ever survived a night outside of a house in this place that he's ever heard about. The chances that someone inexperienced with snow shelters could build one sufficient...
But no. He's not going to steal that hope from her. From her or himself. Even the ghost of a chance is still enough not to give up just yet.]
That's great!
Now for the last step. This one's important, so make sure you read every word.
Please get inside.
[Just a little bit of humor that he doesn't entirely feel, but humor can be just as important as shelter for surviving in Snowhell.]
[Tifa laughs, so that's something, at least. She's fully aware that she isn't out of the woods yet, but at least the shelter will keep her out of the wind. And at least... Well, that's the only pro she can really think of, but she clings to it.]
Is that the way it works? I'm glad you told me.
[But she is moving inside. It's marginally warmer!]
[That's it, really. That's all that they can do, except wait the night out and see what happens. There's no reason now for Kunsel to stick to text, no need to maintain the calm and detached facade he'd needed to guide her and keep her focused, and now there's every reason to switch to voice. The few hours she has before...
Well. Before whatever.
She shouldn't be alone, though, without any human contact. Switching to audio is the least he can give to her.]
[She nods, snuggling down into the coat again. She appreciates hearing his voice. It's so much more comforting than text. Tifa's trying her best to be strong - she really doesn't want him to worry - but dread is creeping in, and every little bit helps.
She's also doing her best not to look at the time. She's got hours to go, any it won't help.]
I'll be okay.
[She's saying it for herself as much as for him, and it's probably pretty obvious.]
[Obvious or not, Kunsel's not going to call her out on it. It wouldn't serve any purpose here.]
Alright. So, tell me about something. About your day, or about something you saw, or something someone said on the network. Even something from back home. Anything, really.
[It's probably not a good idea for her to fall asleep just yet.]
[Tifa realizes exactly what he's doing, and she's endlessly grateful for the distraction. She pauses for a moment as she tries to think of something lighthearted to respond with.]
Hmm.
[Well, her day hasn't been great so far, and Norfinbury is far from cheerful. Neither is home, for that matter, but...]
A few times. Zack and I would sometimes go there on leave, until we got banned.
[There's a story behind that, his cheerful tone implies, and he'll share it if she asks. He's more than half expecting her to, in fact, after giving her a lead-in like that. But maybe she already has a story of her own to share, so he'll just leave it at that and listen to her.]
Long story short? Zack broke one of the game machines by accident, and then we both made a bunch of poor choices that ended with security chasing us around the Gold Saucer and Zack punching one of the actors in a play. To be fair, we were both pretty young back then. Teenage boys aren't necessarily known for being the brightest. Add SOLDIER strength to that, and well...
[He shrugs, though she can't see it. She can probably picture how that might go.]
The Gold Saucer wasn't happy with us, and neither was Zack's mentor, Angeal.
[That's certainly more exciting than any story she was going to tell. It's not difficult to picture a younger Zack getting into trouble like that, and poor Kunsel being dragged into it.]
What happened?
[She can't imagine they got away with a light punishment.]
[Sure, the story might be at his expense, but he's willing to tell it to keep her spirits up, and keep her distracted while he can. It'll give him something else to think about, too.]
Well, I guess we've both got time on our hands. How about I just start at the beginning?
[And so he tells her the whole sorry tale, from the accident with Zack underestimating his strength, to the chase across the Saucer, and right down to the dirty details with Astros. It's a lot funnier in retrospect, and with a few years to buffer it, but he's still rueful when he finally describes what happened when Angeal tracked them down.]
Angeal had us do laps around Corel after that. [Yes, around that rocky mining town.] He put Zack on strength control exercises, too, like he was a newly minted Third. I bet you can imagine how Zack felt about that.
[ooc: Shhh, pretend that thread isn't with a different Zack.]
[Hey, it's okay. Giggling from her is a victory for him, because it means she's not thinking about where she is or what might happen to her.]
Not usually to the extent that we got banned, and he did get better as we got older, but... Yeah. You bet I got dragged into a lot of his stunts. But he never ditched me, either, even if he could have, and he puts up with my crap, too, so I guess it evens out.
I don't mind staying up. [Unless she's saying that because she doesn't want what might be her last moments recorded as she freezes to death. Kunsel purses his lips, then offers:] Though I guess it is pretty late. If you'd like to try getting some sleep...

Thank you, Kunsel. I'll let you know how it goes.
[The next message comes a while later, and Tifa's smiling again. She points the camera towards her newly built den. It isn't the nicest shelter, but it'll do, and all that exercise warmed her up at least.]
It worked!

But no. He's not going to steal that hope from her. From her or himself. Even the ghost of a chance is still enough not to give up just yet.]

So it's been a few years for me.
no subject
Banned?
[She is definitely not going to let that one go. Whatever story he has is going to be far better than hers.]
How did you get banned?
no subject
[He shrugs, though she can't see it. She can probably picture how that might go.]
The Gold Saucer wasn't happy with us, and neither was Zack's mentor, Angeal.

Now that you explain it... It makes complete sense.
[She's wondering how many times he got dragging into trouble because of Zack.]
Did that kind of thing happen often?
no subject
Not usually to the extent that we got banned, and he did get better as we got older, but... Yeah. You bet I got dragged into a lot of his stunts. But he never ditched me, either, even if he could have, and he puts up with my crap, too, so I guess it evens out.
no subject
He's a good person, isn't he?
[It's unfortunate that they had to meet under such awful circumstances in Nibelheim and here. But then, the same could easily be said for Kunsel.]
Thank you for keeping me company, Kunsel. You don't have to stay up all night.
no subject
[Zack's the best friend a guy could ask for.]
I don't mind staying up. [Unless she's saying that because she doesn't want what might be her last moments recorded as she freezes to death. Kunsel purses his lips, then offers:] Though I guess it is pretty late. If you'd like to try getting some sleep...
[He'll understand.]
