Network Prompts
ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW... Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in.
TWO: CABIN FEVER Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants.
Action Prompts
THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages.
FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?
[ Zack sees the fire far before those words reach him. In seconds, the tension in his body goes somewhat slack and there's a ghost of a sheepish smile on his face. Get it together, Fair. He releases a slow breath. Then glances slowly back at the unexpected company. ]
To be fair, the last time I've seen a fire, someone was lighting up one of those monsters. And believe me, it didn't go as planned. [ Jim will forever go down in history for his crushed dreams of kill-it-with-fire... ]
[ He starts at the extended hand. But a beat later, he's catching himself and... slightly abashed, he reaches out with his own to shake. Well, at least he'll do so after swapping his own hands with that hammer. ]
Zack. [ There's something of a slim smile that crosses him. ] Really gotta get back in the habit of exchanging names before blows. [ There might be some sardonic humor between the lines there. But really, when you're in a town like this, better off that than ending up dead. ] Been here a while?
[ His own's pretty sure before he releases Steve's hand and takes that cue with a nod of his own. Seriously, he's been freezing here a month. A fire that's not with the intent of melting off monster goop's more than welcome at this point.
With a nod, he starts off that way. He keeps his stride even with Steve's, rubbing at the bit of scruff starting to develop on his chin again. His hair's a hot mess and could probably use a whole bottle of shampoo at this point where the other man's own short cut still looks well trimmed. ] Someone already give you the rundown then, I take it? [ Already, he's grabbing himself a chair to drop near the fire. At least he won't have to worry about using them to block the doors instead that night. Lucky break! ]
[Steve swings his pack to the ground and tucks his table leg away, then grabs a chair too and sits with a sigh of relief; his last two hidey holes hadn't even had chairs, so between this and the fire this house is feeling pretty luxurious.]
More or less. Tried to get as much intel off of the network as I could, got most of the important stuff, I hope.
[He digs in his pack until he pulls out some rations, ripping open one of the packages and chewing the flavorless stuff resignedly. He glances at Zack.]
Hey, can I ask you a question? You jumpy just because of the monsters, or have there been conflicts with some of the other people, too?
Sorry for the delay! Game tags ate me and this got buried!
Sometimes. [ He admits it easily enough with a shrug of his shoulders, but the look in his eye tells a different story. ]
I mean monsters aren't anything new to me. [ You know, except for the fact that he can't hit any of them. However... He knits his brows. ] But the hallucinations are. We still don't know what starts them... All you can really do is ride things through when it happens. [ And... Hope you don't hurt anyone in the process. Zack hunches over a bit uncomfortably, digging through his own pack and trying to find something to munch on. Food seems like a good distraction. ]
"The hallucinations, right.". [He'd been informed that this was a thing, but he hasn't experienced it for himself yet. He can see how the hallucinations and paranoia could make people unpredictable.]
"You've dealt with these sorts of... creatures, before?"
[ Zack raises his chin just enough to be some semblance of a nod. Then, he's yanking out one of his own crappy ration bars and peeling off the wrapper. He pauses only long enough to admit: ]
Nothing like this back home, no. [ Zack takes a bite. Chews slowly on it. Through a slightly full mouth, he continues: ] The things back home, we could actually take down. Was part of my job. These though? Heh. [ There's something bitter in that short laugh. ]
Yeah, something like that. [ He takes another bite of his sawdust bar and lets silence descend again from his end. But you can only chew on something for so long until you have to swallow it. Especially when it starts tasting like rejected oatmeal. With a sigh, he takes a moment to scratch at the side of his head. ]
I mean someone has to keep them from getting too close for comfort around the towns. Not everyone's trained to deal with the big guys, you know.

"Whoa there, pal, it's all right, just a little fire. Safely contained."

"Sounds like a story. But first..."
[Steve steps closer, switching the table leg to his left hand and offering his right hand to shake.]
"Hi, nice to meet you, I'm Steve."

Where, the house, or Norfinbury? About ten minutes and a few days, respectively. You're the first person I've run into.
[Steve jerks his head toward the fire and raises his eyebrows, a silent hey, you wanna have this conversation over there where it's warm?]

[He takes a bite of rations, chews thoughtfully.]
Your job back home is fighting monsters?
