Network Prompts ONE: IT WON'T BE LONG NOW... Well, you made a mistake. You spent too long searching around, or you ran outside near the end of the day for just one more thing, and now you've been locked out. You can search around all you want, but the best shelter you can hope for is pressing against the side of a sealed up building. You do still have your tablet, though. Maybe someone on the network can give you some advice, or at least some comfort while you wait for hypothermia to set in. TWO: CABIN FEVER Maybe you didn't want that mistake of getting caught outside to happen again, but now you've ended up staying too long in one location, and cabin fever has set in. Maybe you're taking to the network to try and ignore the hallucinations. Maybe you want to tell everyone that you've figured out they're all in on your kidnapping. Maybe you ended up wandering off and now you'd really like to know if anyone can check back in the place you were at for your pants. Action Prompts THREE: AN UNEXPECTED MEETING You're going about your business searching what seems like it might be an especially promising house--it's fully intact and there's even a working fireplace with some wood! It looks like someone else has the same idea, though, and you've run into them in the middle of your search. Do you share the potential wealth or try to kick them out? On the other hand, maybe you know who this is, or maybe you're just glad to actually see another person for the first time in ages. FOUR: GOOD MORGUE-NING You've just woken up in a morgue after dying in one unfortunate way or another. You have no idea where you are beyond that, but your tablet is insisting you can't stay here, so you should probably get out of here pretty quickly. Of course, bringing people back from the dead isn't a perfect science, so you're missing something important to you. Maybe you've lost your voice, maybe you can't remember where you're from, maybe you can't remember where you are right now. It looks like someone else is nearby, though. Maybe they can help you out?

Not sounding it, sir. [The title is a little biting - basically a reminder that she expects someone of his rank to be sensible. They may be from different outfits, but a soldier's a soldier.]

UNAS used to be - I think the names were Canada and Mexico? [She's not so up on her Earth history. And she is also a little unrelenting in her good intentions.] You make sure all the windows are closed?

You know, technically I think you outrank me, I'm Army, different—different kind of captain. [Yes, he's being an obtuse dickhead on purpose.]

Canada, Mexico, and the United States, I'd imagine. Unless we decided to do our own thing, we're not always a joiner. [He shifts again, trying to stop shivering without much success, and sighs.] Haven't got any windows, ma'am.

Well, you know what they say. Strange times, strange bedfellows. [As it happens, she's used to working with obtuse dickheads. She rolls with his evasion, but only to a point. That shivering is getting audible.]

You sure you wanna give me this kind of authority, Captain? I could order you to turn the video on and show me you're all right. [She would, too. Don't test her.]

[Steve's quiet for a long time. When he speaks it's quiet, honest, and without the sass.]

I can't tell you what you want to hear, Commander.

[Shepard is an optimist by nature, so when she finally connects the dots, it's a blow.]

Are you outside, Rogers? [Steady now. Don't sound strangled. Not what he needs, if he is...]

[Steve winces a little at the tone of her voice; he'd been trying to avoid this. His voice goes back to being light and flippant, though.]

Well, I'm not indoors, as such. Dug myself a snow cave, though, it's not half bad. 'S cozy.

[Damnit. Now she gets what's been going on, and also quickly realizes that she shouldn't have called him out. It's not like there's a damn thing she can do. That anyone can... no. She's Shepard. If anyone can do anything, it's got to be her.]

Have you got any training for these conditions? Anything in your kit to give you an edge?

Sure. I was trained to dig a snow cave. [Thank you Captain Sassmaster.]. First time I've had to actually dig one, though. ...Did some fighting in Europe in the wintertime. In the mountains. Does that count as training? It was Godawful. This kinda reminds me of that.

Think I've pretty much exhausted the resources at hand. It'd be nice to have a candle or a fire or something, but. No way to make fire and nothing dry to burn. Found some soggy insulation to lie on, so at least my ass isn't planted on bare snow. [Steve's a bit more sweary than usual, but he feels pretty comfortable talking to another fighter, even if she's a sailor. A spacer? The future is so weird.]

I had an instructor who said that training is anything you survive. [If the situation had sucked a bit less, she'd have done into the standard soldier talk about how that instructor was a hardass but an inspiration. But for the moment he just gets the pep talk.] Sounds like you got better prep than me, though. Good planetside experience. Good start.

[Did she just use "planetside" on him? Get a grip, Shepard.] You better not sit at all if that's possible. Just keep moving. Make it a bigger cave if you can. Do some landscaping. [This lousy joke will not compensate, but she'll try.]

OOC: Sorry to pop up again, I pretty much just resolved to app her! Can I ask for a couple more tags for sample needs?

[Steve laughs at this first bit.] Sounds about right to me. [He smiles bemusedly at the notion of 'good planetside experience.'] Well if it makes you feel better I'm pretty sure you've got better spaceside experience.

Not sure that's an option. This drift is kind of a finite size. ...Does shivering count as moving? 'Cause I've got that covered.

[OOC: Yay! No problem, happy to help.]

[Laughing works, as effects of a pep talk go. She'll take it. She gives a chuckle of her own at his answer.] We can trade tips, just in case the next torture this hellhole comes up with is turning the air and gravity off. [You know it could happen, since their captors clearly don't care whether they live or die. If they did...

Someone would be coming for him already.]

If you're still shivering, you're still got hope. Sit-ups maybe, squats Anything to keep your muscles working, generating heat. I can count out loud for you, if you want.

[Groaning.] Oh God, don't say that out loud, they'll hear you!

[Steve sighs but props his tablet against a wall and shuffles around a bit so he's prone on the ground, getting his arms under him and starting to do slow pushups.] Nah, it's OK, I'd rather keep talking, if that's all right. Counting is kind of irrelevant anyway. I'm gonna have to be careful not to overdo it, though, if I sweat in my clothes I'll be in big trouble.

[... he's totally right, isn't he.] Sorry! Though, shit, EVAs are pretty warm...

[She listens to his movement, breathing. He's actually doing it. There's one soldier who's determined not to die. If being on the line with him is the best she can do, she'll damn well do that.] You're gonna have to find the balance. Just go until you're not shaking, then take a rest. [Talking, talking, what were they talking about...] So, Europe in the mountains? Nice view, at least?

Yes ma'am. [Maaaaaaybe a little sass in his voice there. And then, grumbling a little.] ...I'm going to go out doing pushups. Flashbacks to boot camp, here.

[He snorts.] Sure, I guess. Didn't really take too much time for sightseeing. ...I mean, yeah, objectively the mountains were beautiful. But it was cold, and there were people shooting at us, and—
