Network Prompts ONE: HUNTING SEASON You wake up in the morning to find that a new application has appeared on your tablet. It's labelled "SCAVENGER HUNT" and when you open it, you find a long list of items that, if the title is anything to go by, need to be collected. At first, the items seem rather innocuous; things like bottle caps, napkins, Scotch tape, mittens. As the list continues, though, the items become a little more interesting. Where are you going to find "one pint of type O- blood"? How does one collect a "cry for mercy"? Does the "human sacrifice" need to be human? Most importantly, what are you supposed to do with these items once you've collected them all? Maybe you should check your list with the Network. Some folks might be willing to pool resources. TWO: ONE, TWO, SKIP A FEW Sometime yesterday, you noticed that a timer placed itself on the Network. Contacting the Admin about it provided no explanation, of course, and nobody's tablet buddy seems to have any answers. It started from zero and began counting upwards, seconds ticking away like lightning, but nothing was happening, so there was nothing to be done. Suddenly, however, you can't help but notice the count stutter and jump upwards to 99 hours in. And then, at 100, it stops and vanishes. As far as you can tell, nothing's changed, but it's disconcerting enough that you can't get it off your mind. Maybe someone else on the Network has some theories. Action Prompts THREE: WHAT WE DO WITH THE SHADOWS You and your companion decided that, for whatever reason, this house was worth investigating. It took something unorthodox—like moving all the furniture to one place, illuminating certain segments of the room, reciting a message, or maybe something else—but by doing it, it seems you've invited another guest. It's a shadowy figure with no face and no discernible limbs, and it goes wherever you go, lingering behind you just so that you can only ever see it out of your peripheral vision. Your companion can see it well enough, though, and sometimes it follows them instead. It doesn't seem to be hostile, but can you know that for sure? Either way, lockdown has already fallen, and you're stuck with it through the night. FOUR: WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? You’ve just gotten comfortable for the night with your traveling companion when something odd happens. You hear an animal. A dog? A cat? A bird? Maybe the sound is coming from outside, or in the other room. Maybe you feel it brush or flutter past you without anything being there. Or maybe you even see it…just out of the corner of your eye, as it darts around a corner. You feel like maybe it’s trying to alert you to something, somehow. Or maybe you just really want to see if you can coax it out. Careful, though, get too close too quickly and you may aggravate it. As phantom as the animal may seem, the claw marks you receive for your trouble feel very real.

[ Try having blurry images on a sense that normally paints things in solid shapes, Natasha. IT WOULD BE REALLY HARD, OK. ]

Hmmm, yes. [ He gestures dramatically, waving his hands in front of his face as if that would help him see. ] Let me run my hands over the flat screen and tell you how it feels exactly like every other flat screen I've ever seen.

[ Boy oh boy does Matt love flat screen technology!!! ]

[Natasha laughs, rolling her eyes again. Don't hurt yourself, Matt.]

Ah, well, you'd be wrong. This is a very advanced, indestructible flat screen.

[Annnd she's just going to send those pictures to Tony.]

Are you going to adopt our invisible friend?

Ah, of course. I haven't tried punching the screen yet, so I wasn't sure.

[ Matt smirks. Making Natasha laugh is definitely a win in his book. ]

I guess I could. Chances are I'm the only one who can 'see' him without getting a headache. [ #sightedproblems. He turns to the dog: ] You'd starve otherwise, wouldn't you, boy? Can't have that.

Yet.

[She slips her tablet back into her coat pocket and plants her hands on her hips, head tilting slightly. As oddly... cute as an invisible dog might be, she's still viewing this more as a way to test whatever the hell is going on with this place.]

Generally, these... glitches, or whatever you want to call them, don't seem to last very long. If he doesn't disappear, he might not be able to follow us.

[Why is she talking about the dog like it's real? Well, okay, she's not one thousand percent sure it isn't real, but. Details.]

[ Punching is usually pretty high on the list when it comes to Matt Murdock. Right after talking and radar-sensing. He's been updating from the old punch-first-ask-questions-later plan. ]

So if it's a glitch, does that mean there was supposed to be a dog here? One you could see, I mean?

[ The dog is certainly very real to Matt, and it's getting a very real belly rub now that it is happy and fed. It's a shame you're missing out, Natasha. ]

I'm not sure. I'll update you with Stark's latest theory when he gets back to me.

[She's smiling again, because even if she can't see the dog, she can tell Matt is rubbing its belly. Cute.]

If you punch something and break your hand, I'm not setting it for you.

How long have you known me? You act like I don't know how to throw a punch.

[ Matt smirks. It's been a long time since he and Natasha talked without getting too wrapped up in each other's pasts and business so it's. Nice. Thanks, dog. Who's a good boy?? ]

Stark's working on figuring this place out, huh? How's that going?

[redrooms]

[It's pretty easy to set differences aside when you're trapped in a frozen hellscape. It's only a matter of time before they argue about something, but for now Natasha is more worried about getting home. She sighs at the question, though.]

About as well as it is for anyone else. Tony can't actually access any of the tech here to test his theories, so we'll still flying blind.

[Wait.]

That wasn't supposed to be a pun.

[ Would that they could be blessed with such normalcy. Instead they have ghost dogs and frostbite hell to keep them busy. ]

Is he now? [ Yeah that makes Matt grin. Awful blind puns can bring levity to any situation! ] I thought by now he'd have hacked the tablets or built himself a new suit at least.

[redrooms]

Eve has everything locked down too tightly. Besides, that would make things easy, wouldn't it?

[And they can't have that.]

Wouldn't be our lives if it was easy, would it?

[ Matt may like this dog but he doesn't expect it to last... nothing good ever lasts in his life :') ]

No. At least it's never boring.

[Natasha nudges him gently.]

Does he have a name?

[actuallydaredevil]

That's for sure.

[ Matt doesn't handle boring very well, that usually leads to nervous breakdowns. Maybe a dog would help in this trying time. ]

I... I'm awful at names. [ He almost wants to go with "Echo" but HAHA naming it after one of his ex-girlfriends? Bad idea. ]

I guess Spot?

[ Get it because he's invisible. ]

[Well, that wouldn't be the first terrible decision he's made involving an ex, so...]

That is an awful name.

[ He laughs. He's awful at this, there's a reason Foggy is ghostwriting his autobiography. ]

[Because apparently Natasha's go to for pet names is morbid Russian fairytales. Don't judge her, Matt.]

[ Matt's judging you a little, Nat. But it's not better than his ex-girlfriend plan, so he's just a hypocrite. ]

Fido works too. [ He's so boring. But it's not like he can tell what breed of dog it is just by petting it. Not when the shape is off even on his radar. ]

What do you think, boy? Fido? Spot? Koschei?

[ If it barks, will it sound like a dog or freaky static? ]

[The dog does bark, and Natasha hears it, but strangely she can't describe it. She couldn't say if it was a happy lapdog bark or a big, booming one.]

See? He likes my suggestion best. Isn't that right, boy?

[ The bark feels like feedback dialed up to 20 in his senses and Matt can't hide the way he cringes at the sound. Naturally, he plays it off. Just never bark again, please. ]

So that's a yes on Koschei, and maybe you'll promise not to bark like that ever again?

[Natasha is obnoxiously observant, so she notices that flinch.]

It means he likes me better. What did it sound like to you?

Like someone struck a speaker with a dozen microphones all dialed up to 11.

[ So, y'know, feedback. But this is a bit more colorful than just your usual loud buzzing sound. Sorry, Fido. ]

[redrooms]

It sounded like a bark to me.

[There's a pause, and she smiles wryly.]

I think. I couldn't tell you anything more specific than that.

Lucky you.

[ Matt almost scoffs. Ah, to have the comfort of sight. Must be nice. But back to petting this dog before he gets petty. ]

What's your secret, huh, boy? You didn't do that on purpose, did you?

[redrooms]

Something tells me he isn't going to share his secrets.

[Because he's a dog. Kind of.]

Is this going to be one more thing for you to give your food away to?

[ Ah, dogs. Even when you're cute despite being glitchy, you give Matt trouble. This is why he never follows through on the seeing eye dog thing. ]
