Network Prompts ONE: HUNTING SEASON You wake up in the morning to find that a new application has appeared on your tablet. It's labelled "SCAVENGER HUNT" and when you open it, you find a long list of items that, if the title is anything to go by, need to be collected. At first, the items seem rather innocuous; things like bottle caps, napkins, Scotch tape, mittens. As the list continues, though, the items become a little more interesting. Where are you going to find "one pint of type O- blood"? How does one collect a "cry for mercy"? Does the "human sacrifice" need to be human? Most importantly, what are you supposed to do with these items once you've collected them all? Maybe you should check your list with the Network. Some folks might be willing to pool resources. TWO: ONE, TWO, SKIP A FEW Sometime yesterday, you noticed that a timer placed itself on the Network. Contacting the Admin about it provided no explanation, of course, and nobody's tablet buddy seems to have any answers. It started from zero and began counting upwards, seconds ticking away like lightning, but nothing was happening, so there was nothing to be done. Suddenly, however, you can't help but notice the count stutter and jump upwards to 99 hours in. And then, at 100, it stops and vanishes. As far as you can tell, nothing's changed, but it's disconcerting enough that you can't get it off your mind. Maybe someone else on the Network has some theories. Action Prompts THREE: WHAT WE DO WITH THE SHADOWS You and your companion decided that, for whatever reason, this house was worth investigating. It took something unorthodox—like moving all the furniture to one place, illuminating certain segments of the room, reciting a message, or maybe something else—but by doing it, it seems you've invited another guest. It's a shadowy figure with no face and no discernible limbs, and it goes wherever you go, lingering behind you just so that you can only ever see it out of your peripheral vision. Your companion can see it well enough, though, and sometimes it follows them instead. It doesn't seem to be hostile, but can you know that for sure? Either way, lockdown has already fallen, and you're stuck with it through the night. FOUR: WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? You’ve just gotten comfortable for the night with your traveling companion when something odd happens. You hear an animal. A dog? A cat? A bird? Maybe the sound is coming from outside, or in the other room. Maybe you feel it brush or flutter past you without anything being there. Or maybe you even see it…just out of the corner of your eye, as it darts around a corner. You feel like maybe it’s trying to alert you to something, somehow. Or maybe you just really want to see if you can coax it out. Careful, though, get too close too quickly and you may aggravate it. As phantom as the animal may seem, the claw marks you receive for your trouble feel very real.

Her eyes are calculating, almost suspicious, like she's trying to figure out everything about it from a cursory glance. She can't, of course, but that doesn't mean she's not going to try.]

Not what I expected when we moved the furniture. Think it's upset we threw off the feng shui?

[Natasha has been traveling with Amber for a day or so, enough time to pick up on a few things. Namely, Amber is very smart, and very cunning. That's both a blessing and a curse—it means Amber doesn't miss much, but it also means Natasha is hesitant to trust her. Even now, that look on her face would be more at home on a spy or con artist than a doctor.]

It had terrible taste, anyway.

[The house is a wreck, and there's not much they can do to make it worse at this point.]

[Contrary to Amber's poise, Wilson does look tense. He grips her shoulder protectively, never taking his eyes off of the shadow. When he speaks, it's a slow whisper so as not to spook the shadow into action.]

How can you be so calm? That... thing could be dangerous, whatever it is. We should put the furniture back where we found it.

Collecting the heart at this time will probably not be the most advisable course of action, Doctor. An extracted heart will only keep bleeding for, I guess, 30 seconds at most.

Assuming we intend on collecting all the items in the list, I suggest keep the heart for last, since you so generously already volunteered yours.

The item I am personally most concerned about, is the first tooth of a newborn. There is no shortage of skeletons of young children, but can you determine which tooth was the first one to grow?

[It sounds like a dog, bark feeble, like it's in pain. And that's what spurs Claire into action; she's not going to let some poor pup bite it because she was too scared of what it might look like.

She sees it, a shadow at the corner of her eye. In times like these she misses Matt dearly, misses how easily he would have been able to tell exactly what was wrong with the dog, just by listening to its heartbeat, or the rhythm of its walk. She can't - but she'll be okay.

She turns slowly towards the dog, seeing it more fully now. It doesn't look real, a little ethereal, shimmering in the shadows, but there's blood coming down its hind leg, and Claire takes a deep breath, steels herself.

She's dealt with more skittish.]

Do you wanna help? Get me the bandages in my pack.

[She's not looking away from the dog as she speaks, voice low and soft. She's made a bunch of bandages, tearing up hand towels and shirts that didn't fit her for it, and she just wants to see if she can - if she can.

She crouches, holding a hand out as she starts shuffling forward, slowly, slowly, slowly. No need to scare it into violence.]

[ He's not entirely sure what it is, though it does seem "dog" enough. But he can see its mortality, see that there's something not right about it.

Careful. [ But then he's already reaching for the bandages, as asked. Real or not, he can't turn down an injured creature, either. ] I'm guessing by bandages, you mean this?

[Undertaker keeps trying to tilt his tablet this way and that, as if he might catch a glimpse of the shadow behind him from the reflection off it's surface despite the thick bangs that fall into his face. He's become entirely distracted by the task, giving up any hope of sleep as the minutes tick by and he just keeps switching positions, whether it's flopping over onto his back on the floor to force it from following behind him, or getting up to pace the area.

For the moment, he's settled with his back against a wall and his legs bent up nearly to his chin, device resting on his knees. It's only a matter of time before he cocks his head at his current victim companion and voices his thoughts.]

It's sort of endearing isn't it? I think it's taken a liking to one of us, ^hee hee.

[Someone is annoyed. When he looks up and sees the faceless shade, barely perceptible in the shadows, he mewls slightly.]

[ It's taking Matt a while to get used to the whole 'having to turn his head' to get his radar sense to work. He can kinda tell there's some kind of dog hiding behind an upturned table. Animals in snow hell are probably not a great sign... but he approaches it anyway. No fear and all that. ]

Hey there, little guy... [ He shushes, holding his hands out while he crouches down. The "dog" might not look right, but it smells and acts like one, almost. ] Where'd you come from, huh?

[Natasha, meanwhile, doesn't see anything. She hears the dog though, and feels it, brushing past her legs, the quick whip of a tail against her calf, and then it's gone again. The click of its "nails" on the floor are the only hint she has that it's retreating behind the table, and Natasha tenses at Matt crouches down. She's still not completely sure how his senses are working here, but if he's sensing something she can't see, well... That has interesting implications for the things they've all been brushing off as hallucinations, doesn't it?]

Careful.

[It's probably a needless warning. She's just going to watch and see what happens for the moment.]

[Some (Merk, for instance, in the dry and cynical voice he knew so well) might question the choice to reveal his...."unique" biology to the human populaton of Norfinbury. Vorin himself thought it made little difference to delay an outcome that felt inevitable. Food and shelter were limited, after all, as was the ability to travel far or fast. The others would cross paths with him eventually...would see him for what he was. Better to face fate on his own terms.]

This isn't what came to mind when I read the term "scavenger hunt". Bottle caps and paper clips, shoelaces, something called a "yoh-yoh"....

[A pause.]

And the femur bone of a newborn infant. What possible use could that have?

[At least the Dread Weapons were absent from this bizarre list. One took silver linings where they could be found, Vorin believed, and he absolutely did not need the fear of "admin" knowing about such incredibly powerful, incredibly dangerous artifacts to gain the knife-edge of confirmation.]

[Vorin's gaze is flat and hard with wary suspicion and a caged sort of anger, both thinly masked by the terrible patience of a hunter poised to spring. Armor creaks as gauntleted hands curl into fists. His gold eyes track the shadow-creature's presence without pause, as though daring it to try something more ambitious than hovering around his newest companion and being creepy.]

I don't know about you, but the idea of sleeping the night through while this...thing....hangs around seems ill-advised.

I agree. [Honestly, spending the whole night with a, uh... ram? Is he a ram? Ritsu isn't entirely sure, and he doesn't want to ask, either. No matter - it's going to be a strange night, but it's been nothing but strange nights since he got here, so this shouldn't faze him. He won't let it faze him. Not the one thing, not the other thing.]

Perhaps we can trade sleeping shifts...?

It's like the collaborative Frankenstein monster between a spunky soccer mom trying to trick her no good brats into picking up useless garbage, like the act itself might save the planet, and a teenaged girl's first maiden voyage into her Hot Topic phase.
Bottle caps, used napkins, and the still beating heart of a seasoned warrior? Well, if we need a knife to extract said heart, we could use the edge that went into producing this list.
While I'm at it, anyone have a spare "Eye of a Sinner"? Technically speaking, I have double the requirements, but I'm currently using both of mine.

[Well, something was following him. That was great.]

[Apparently all it took was sliding a coffee table out of the way of a cabinet into a chalk-marked section of the floor. Not really a mistake on Ritsu's part, but not exactly intentional, either. There hadn't even been anything in the cabinet of use. What a waste of a move.]

[Still, he was staying calm, calmer than a thirteen-year-old with a shadow following him (and not his partner, apparently) should really be. On the inside, he was on guard, keeping himself alert, ready to move, but still keenly aware his actions would likely not be enough to stop whatever this thing is, esper or not. What even is it? It bothered him that he couldn't get a good look at the creature, and decided at long last, while poking through another area with his compatriot, to bring it up bluntly.]

Jack has not acclimated to the constant presence of snow. He tries to spend as much time as possible with a fire. And if he has to physically move furniture in order to obtain that pipe dream, he will.

Even if it spawns shadowy ghost figures. ]

[ It's a good thing the annoying know-it-all voice is behind a wall of text and not showing how much the person on the other end is enjoying spouting off things she actually knows. It's so nice to take her mind off the cryptic list of items they apparently needed. ]

Scotch tape is the American name for adhesive tape. I know, I was a bit confused too but I think that's it. I'm rather used to something else but in these houses we should be able to find one.

Am I right in thinking you're from a place that isn't modern? Blood has different types mostly due to different antibodies, I admit I haven't studied it in depth. I'm not much of Healer, but these things are rather fascinating!

I'm more worried about the other things on the list. They seem rather Dark don't they?
