[She takes it, walking out of the coffee shop, walking close.]

I only live a few blocks away. Not the nicest neighborhood, but it's home.

I can't believe the buildings--

[He'd spent the walk over staring up in awe, and he's doing the same thing now.]

[nursetemple]

And we got a lot more bigger ones in Manhattan. If you stay until tomorrow, I can take you.

[It's an invitation, and she knows it.]

[devoutish]

Well - that's not an offer I can turn down.

There's towers in New York, in my time - I've seen photographs.

[But he's never seen them in person.]

[nursetemple]

There's probably bigger ones now.

[She would explain the World Trade Center and 9/11 to him, too, but it doesn't feel like the right moment at all. Instead, she smiles.]

We're here. [She points to a squat building the street over, red bricks walls lit up by the street lamps.] But just so you know, I didn't expect company, so it's a mess.

[devoutish]

I'm sure there are.

[He tears his gaze away from the buildings in the distance to focus on the ground level now, shooting Claire a wry look.]

Now, this looks more like what I'm familiar with.

[nursetemple]

What, dirty and small? [She laughs, pulling her keys out of her bag and tugging him along to the front door.

She lives on the fourth floor, and opens the door to him, stepping in first to pick up discarded bras and shirts from the couch, kicking shoes from the middle of the floor to any corner of the room.]

Told you, it's a mess, but make yourself at home. Want some of that scotch?

[devoutish]

[He averts his eyes politely from the bras, instead zeroing in on more proper things - the TV, maybe, if there's one visible.]

Yeah, I won't turn down the scotch. Yeah.

[nursetemple]

[There is, right in front of the couch, with the remote on the coffee table in between. Once she's dumped everything in her bedroom, Claire goes straight to the kitchen, and pours them both a drink. She hands him one, then sits, relaxing instantly.]

The first bottle I bought when I got back from Norfinbury was Lagavulin. Oh, how I'd missed it.

[devoutish]

[He taps the screen with a finger, but turns back to her when she reenters the room, going to sit next to her on the couch.]

I don't drink often, myself - but I do like a good scotch.

[He takes a long pull, sighing.]

[She smiles, taking a moment to just smell her drink before taking a sip herself.]

I'm not a big drinker myself, but the circumstances over there were...dire. Not always, but most of the time.

[Her eyes flick up to the tv.]

Ever watched tv, anywhere else you've visited?

[devoutish]

I've seen sets in passing, in shop windows.

[nursetemple]

[She leans to grab the remote, and turns on the tv for him, tossing the remote on his lap.]

[With all this happening, she hasn't even got herself into comfier clothes. She rushes back into her room and out of her scrubs, into a pair of shorts and a tank top, her usual lounging outfit.

Then, she joins Alfie back in the living-room.]

[devoutish]

[That sure is more skin than he's used to. Even though it's Claire - even though they've slept together - he finds himself politely averting his eyes the way he had with the bras, focusing instead on the television news.]

[nursetemple]

[She sees him, out of the corner of his eyes, looking away from her, and she chuckles breathlessly into her glass. She's so used to people wearing even less and not blinking an eye.]

I'm sorry, I didn't think. Would you rather if I put on pants?

[She looks at him, her question completely genuine and innocent. She doesn't want to make him uncomfortable.]

[devoutish]

Ah--

[He waves a hand dismissively, but it's directed at himself, not at her.]

I'm not used to it. That's all.

[nursetemple]

[With a grin, tentatively, she reaches out, poking his thigh with her big toe. She irrationally glad that she had a pedicure done recently, and chuckles to herself about it]

You're acting like you've not seen it before.

[devoutish]

Different contexts.

[Or, at least, he's been assuming she wouldn't want him to jump her right here and now.]

The only difference I can feel is that it's warm in New York right now. [A light chuckle.]

Not that I expect you've just come round to this world and this time for a quickie, but you don't have to avoid looking when you've looked your fill before. And if you're wondering about a man - there isn't one.

[devoutish]

You're no less forward than I remember.

[But it's making a smile dance across his face.]

[nursetemple]

I'm still the same.

[She still sees little point in wasting time pretending. He's here - but he's not here to stay. She puts her foot on his leg again, close to his knee.]

But you say the word, and I'll stop.

[devoutish]

I haven't said the word.

[nursetemple]

[So she shifts closer to him, closer and closer until she can throw a leg over his, and straddle him. She frames his face with her hands, looking down at him.]
